I'm working on setting up a kalk reactor to work with my apex. My plan is to use one top off pump but have a manifold consisting of two solenoids that will open/closed based on tank pH, the valve in front of the kalk reactor will close if pH exceeds 8.4 in the display and the other solenoid which by=passes the reactor will open. I will also leave the RO only valve open for couple hours after the mixing pump stirs the kalk so that salinity in the tank remains stable. I think overall the programming will be much easier than what you have outlined here. I also will hopefully be providing a safe guard against a kalk overfeed because any time the tank is more than 8.4, the kalk reactor will be bypassed.
Are you still using this Kalk Reactor? How long did it take to dial it in? I bought a Kalk Stirrer, I just havent used it yet. I have 2 part set up currently. I know there is that risk of something happening with the kalk and spiking PH. I have an apex and the kalk stirrer is reef octopus. I just want something to help keep that PH in a stable zone. If you have a few minutes to give any advise, etc that would be appreciated. Many Thanks
I’m really enjoying this series. I’ve been considering doing the same thing on my reef. I’m curious what you plan on doing to dose magnesium since those levels will more than likely be off.
I dose kalk from a reservoir using a peristaltic pump. Here’s how I do it with fewer lines. It runs for 4 minutes every half hour between 8pm and 12pm and shuts off if the display ph gets too high (never but just in case) or the sump level gets too high. Much easier than all those time lines. Can just increase the duration and frequency with the osc command and change when it’s off, based on your display light schedule and the pH drop. Could do a similar osc command for your kalk mixing pump. Fallback off Osc 000:00/004:00/026:00 then ON If [ato avast pressure switch] open then OFF if time 12:06 to 19:59 then OFF If pH-dis > 8.5 then OFF
I also enjoy running all four; Kalk, Refugium, CalRx and Skimmer. Nice part is once everything is dialed-in the only inconsistent variable is how much one is feeding the corals & fish. Everything else is a relatively fixed variable. Nice vid!
Thanks for the installation vid. Seems like something many people can use effectively to supply Ca/Alk. Great vid.
I think this was a great 2 part video series !!! Ocean looks great :)
great build thread👍👍👍

You explained that great and thank you sir
Nice video as usual . thanks again.
Level Apex Master! Great info

Great video, are you still using the Kalk reactor? I was thinking about doing the same to raise my Ph.

Why not use the osccillating function for the programming?. Love the channel and info
Thank you for this video!
Great diy!

Great video! 👍🏼 Are you still running the Kalkwasser reactor?

I'm curious, with a stable setup (which it sure looks like you have), why do you think your Alk started falling once the stirrer was brought online?
Travis, what did it cost you to build it?
What calculator did you use to try to figure out how much to dose?
Just me no calculator
You the man !!!!
