- In this new episode of [CVtv], Jeremy introduces us to the brand new IceCap Kalkwasser Mixer, a dedicated reactor for mixing calcium hydroxide (Kalkwasser) solution to ensure maximum concentration with each dose to your aquarium and eliminates the need for frequent manual mixing.
Using Kalkwasser to supplement the aquarium with calcium and carbonates is one of the most efficient and economic methods and has been used successfully on reef aquariums for many years. The use of the IceCap Kalk Mixer will ensure maximum concentration with each dose to your aquarium and reduce the need for frequent manual addition and mixing of the solution.

This is a very nice reactor. I recommend that you increase the size of the output fittings and tubing from 1/4" to 3/8" if your application has a less than vertical drain to the sump. This alleviated the intermittent draining I was experiencing due to my longer drain requirement. Flows freely now at 3.5ml/minute and zero worries about blocking the drain. The addition of a float switch would also be a premium upgrade to guard against the reactor from overflowing with a clogged drain. I would not be without one on my protein skimmer.
Just ordered the small one and the X1 pump to check them both out. Looking forward to testing them out!
Awesome! Thank you.
Flip's Reef update? Any clogging issues?
Nice product
Can I ask? Why is the recommended amount of Kalk to add 8-10 times what Water can hold? Is it to decrease the amount of times you need to add Kalk?
Sure thing. A small amount of Kalk goes a long way in an adequate-sized reactor and excessive kalk can cake up and cause issues with the mixer.
@@CoralVueTV So if a gallon is saturated at 8 grams why is the recommended amount of Kalkwasser 90-120g? I'm getting ready to set this up on my Red Sea Reefer 170 I'm just curious about the reasons for certain numbers.
👍👍👍👍
How can this work for ALL-IN-ONE systems where the sump is not below the aquarium? I have an IM Fusion 20 with an APS aquarium stand.
The reactor top would have to sit above the tank to drain down. Other than that have it drip into your tank's filtration and away from pumps.
Do you need a pump to run this reactor? or can you just gravity fed the solution without a pump?
Yes, you would require a dosing pump or set it up off of your Auto Top Off (ATO) pump with the reactor inline between your freshwater source and the sump. Hope this helps.
How often do you add kalkwasser?
It depends on the size of the reactor and how much water is pushed through it. I used the smallest model on my 220gal and filled it every other week, more so in the summer due to evaporation.
