  • In this episode of [CVtv], Jeremy introduces us to the Reef Octopus Kalkwasser Reactor.
The Reef Octopus Kalkwasser Reactor is a simple, economical and efficient way to supplement both calcium and alkalinity to any reef system. Unlike other supplements, Kalkwasser has the added benefit of keeping your tank's pH levels high and, precipitate phosphates.
The Reef Octopus Kalkwasser Reactor keeps Kalkwasser fresh and potent while at the same time preventing us from overdosing it!

Another excellent and detailed/informative video. Amazing review and set up details, one of the best I have seen.
These types of videos really help the hobbiest get a better understanding of what and how they will need to set up and maintain there new piece of equipment. Bravo!

Do you need a check valve to be installed on the inlet?. That low entry of water into the Kalk area seems like it will be prone to blockage

You don't need one but I do suggest putting a valve right before the intake for service purposes. The valve makes it much easier to remove and drain the reactor. I have never experienced an inlet blockage on any of my Kalk reactors which all have had the inlet at the lowest possible point.

Sir do you know where I can purchase the ks250? I have heard reef Octopus has discontinued the ks250. I know there are some venders still have the ks150 but not the ks250. If you can help me source the 250 I’ll GREATLY APPRECIATE IT 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    What about back siphoning?
I have this hooked up through my RODI storage container, the water in the tank is getting cloudy and the water in the stirrer is visually lower than normal.

If the freshwater reservoir is lower than the kalk mixer it is advised to put a check valve on the feed line if not using a dosing pump. This will prevent the back siphoning from occuing.

can the Kamoer dosing pump work to pump the water up to the aquarium height not sump?

    • @CoralVueTV
      @CoralVueTV  Год назад

Yes, the Kamoer FX STP can dose up to an aquarium, but reactors like this are impossible since they drain by gravity.

Can I hook my RODI directly to the unit bypassing any doser? From the Reactor the output would go to the float in my sump and dispense as the float drops in the sump. I am worried that the reactor is not meant for pressurized water as that would occur as the RODI is pressurizing the Reactor when it is producing more water than is being used in my tank due to evaporation.

Sorry you can not. Kalk reactors work by gravity and are not intended to handle pressure. It is best fed by small low pressure pump or doser.

@@CoralVueTV But this reactor was made to be able to hook up directly to your rodi output. I know reefers that do this. This is the only reactor that can handle it I thought

The Reef Octopus are stirrers not reactors. Reactors utilities a pump to keep the kalk in solution so you add kalk slurry not the more clear saturated kalk as administered by a stirrer. Am surprised the guy is calling the ROs reactors. There is a clear difference.

I believe, "Reactor" is a category that refers to anything utilizing a vessel and there are many different types of reactors in the aquarium hobby. Both a "Kalk Stirer" and a "Kalk Mixer" would reside within a "Kalk Reactor" or "Nilsen Reactors" category.

@@CoralVueTV Most of your contemporaries call the stirrer, well a stirrer with the reactor utilising a pump to differentiate between the two and not cause confusion by banding both together.
