This is exactly what I do on my LG960V 55inch OLED - and can confirm it works a treat - I've been using it as a monitor for more then 3 years and yes there is burn in - but its a spare TV so I'm not too bothered.
Older panels did but nowadays it's not really a real problem for the average consumer (unless you literally let your TV on 24/7/365 at full brightness)
It is definitely an issue but these are promoted reviews. If you don’t want headache, don’t use OLED as desktop monitor. It isn’t bright enough in a bright environment, and it will burn in.
Nice review, but I'm thinking 65"-or bigger for the living room and 32"-42" for the computer desk. I think I'd prefer a smaller 144-165 Hz screen for PC and an OLED in the living room for consoles and movies. Perhaps in a few years we'll have smaller 165 Hz OLEDs, that would be fantastic. Oh, and I hope you game with the lights low! 👍🏻
how about we get a 32" monitor with the same specs? would be the holy grail of monitors! can't wait to have next-gen support for higher refresh rates at 4k....
You mention it's "120hz", but with a TV, it's really important to specify if that's TRUE hz, or the "TruMotion" motion interpolation. One is the monitor being able to display the frames made by your PC which is instant, and the other is where the TV itself looks at the before and after frames, and fills in what it thinks should be between as a post-processing effect that definitely adds a fat lag. I noticed this TV DOES have TruMotion. So Does it also have that true refresh rate capability?
I see where you were using the TruMotion for your PC gaming. I hope you know that your TV is just taking 60FPS and creating frames in between. No matter how powerful a graphics card you have, it doesn't matter if your display can only actually receive 60 frames per second.
It's a good point of clarification. It's true 120Hz over HDMI 2.1, not interpolated. With current GPUs only supporting 2.0 you can do either 1440p120 or 2160p120 @ 4:2:2/0? The OLED Motion Pro feature is just Black Frame Insertion, to reduce motion blurring. It will still accept and display 120Hz with that feature.

Ain’t gonna happen, at least not for a long time and by then, another technology will be the norm. It took long enough to get 48 inch. The efficiency of panel cut outs in the manufacturing process goes right down the smaller you go.
Why does every TV reviewer ever hate interpolation and high frame rate video? we have been stuck on 24 fps since the beginning of film. I love smooth high frame rate video and interpolation I wish all video played at 48 to 60 fps. I personally use software called SVP to interpolate all my movies and TV shows to 60 fps.
I don't get the argument against a screen this size being that you have to hunt around the screen, when people with dual screens already do this everyday. Seems like a screen this size would be more usable and easier to get around than two screens. Also, with bigger size you don't have to scale up the 4k resolution as much, giving you what seems like more real estate. Anyways, nice setup!
Isn't that too freaking close for a 48"? If your keyboard is that close your neck would be going up and down or side to side to check the mini map or to work on your excel sheet haha
of course you can turn it off and there are now, true motion and any other dynamic feature has to be turned OFF ALWAYS. color fringing is not a thing when you use the right mode and the right settings in the nvidia-driver.
If you plan on using it as a computer monitor, it has major brightness issues. It will dim after one minute despite any settings you may try. I find this extremely annoying.
I just want to know what type of mansion size houses and rooms you all live in where 55" in a bedroom is " normal". I'll admit I love in a relatively large home in the suburbs and have what I think most would call a large room and 55" is as big as I'd consider for my bedroom TV. Most woman have told me it's to big 🤷♂️
Damn this man is basically a desk model. He's literally popular for doing video shoots of him sitting at desks. Imagine being a kid with big aspirations only to find out 15 years down the road you've become 'that guy' who shows the world what they would look like sitting at a desk set up they're looking to buy. I'm jealous.
"its still a little bigger than I'd wish" My thoughts exactly, I want an OLED monitor for its black levels and just want one do it all screen and am willing to sacrifice size to get it. Given 1440p is the highest practical amount of pixels for 120+ HZ gaming then 32 inches is as big as you can go and still retain sharp text. Still waiting for an all round monitor 27 to 32 inches with excellent blacks AND at a decent price because yes, screen burn in will happen using it as a monitor.
$1500 ($2000 CAD) for a 48 inch. Way too expensive for your average customer. And OLED is not practical as a monitor. You can buy a 50" TCL for about $380 CAD ($283 american) on Amazon right now. If you want to experiment with a big TV as your monitor, I would highly recommend buying a MUCH cheaper TCL. It's less than a quarter of the price, and works better as a monitor. Sure the quality is not as good, buts it's $300 American for a decent 4k TV. And it's worth the risk of experimenting with a big screen for your desktop when the price is that low.
@supralex1 I can assure you, this will NOT be popular as a gaming monitor, lol. Niche or not. Next gen console gaming won't be hitting anything over 60fps at 4k, so the higher refresh rate is useless for consoles, and OLED for a computer monitor is a waste of money. With 4k displays getting cheaper and bigger, expect most to be buying a bigger 4k TV for less, and this won't be niche either, because as someone who owns a RTX 2080ti and beastly PC, I run it to my 65" 4k tv that cost $620 CAD, and enjoy it their for gaming and use my 27" monitor... As a monitor.
supralex1 I’m just now learning about PC gaming and i wanted to ask one thing if you don’t mind. By getting this TV and a 2080TI, how do you use the graphics card with it? Do you just hook it up to the tv via HDMI cord?
I'm watching this video on my CX48 which is plugged into my PC. Anybody else in the audience doing the same? Observations that may be contrary to other people's: While maximum black frame insertion at 60hz flickers completely unacceptably at a window desktop, I've found that emulating classic 2d games (be it through snes9x or initially i just tested with my SNES classic hooked straight up to the TV) results in a smaller FOV (because not wide screen) and lower average brightness that makes the flicker completely unnoticeable. If you're a retro gaming enthusiast, turn on BFI at 60hz, and try it in your game - the flicker which is obnoxious under certain circumstances actually melts away under other circumstances. Also I always use BFI with 4k120 since that doesn't have any sort of detectable flicker in my eyes. (Only drawback is i'm stuck with 4k120 4:2:0 sampling, but I'll get a new HDMI 2.1 capable GPU as soon as i can to fix that) Thing #2 is - if you use it as a PC monitor and your text is fuzzy at 4k120 4:2:0, thats actually not chroma subsamplings fault. There seems to be a glitch in the firmware that turns on "screen shift" after every time you reboot the tv. The option will show as off but you have to click it to turn it on (nothing happens), then click it to turn it off (screen shrinks a hair and text becomes sharp again). Color-on-color text won't be fixed by this at 4:2:0 but black on white should be sharp regardless. I made a ticket with LG since it looks like a firmware glitch and I can easily reproduce. Thing #3. Yeah, its an oled, it "can" burn in but as long as you mix up your content and keep the screen brightness low (my "OLED LIGHT" which is the relevant setting for the sake of this discussion is usually around 30.) Just turn on your windows screen saver and if you know you're walking away from the TV for more than an hour, turn it off just to be sure. With those tips and caveats, this is absolutely the best gaming display imaginable, even without VRR support on my 1070 ti (but same story, gonna buy a 3080 when those come out unless they stupidly don't have hdmi 2.1)
Thanks for the additional insight. In regards to #2, I did play around with turning "screen shift" on and off and didn't really notice a difference. But your reasoning does make sense to me. So maybe i'll play around with it some more myself.
@@HelloDavid Yep. The most important thing is that you're running 16:9 pixel ratio with no overscan AND at 3840x2160 (not 4096x2160, not 2560x1440). I also think the glitch doesn't even affect 4k60 inputs. To reproduce, power cycle tv, set to 4k120 w/ 4:2:0 sampling, then open something that you know should have pixel-sharp text. You might also need to set to 100% dpi scaling in the name of the test (but I personally just use the font in nvidia control panel since it stays 1:1 pixel even if scaling is set to 150%). If you flip pixel shift from "off" to "on" and nothing happens, its because it was already glitched on. If you flip pixel shift back off, the screen should blank for a fraction of a second and you should be able to move your mouse cursor to the upperleft corner and not a single pixel should be cut off. Then you turn it back on, and you'll see its cut off again and text is a bit fuzzier. Arguably, the processor in this TV is so good that the fuzziness is PRETTY MILD for technically being scaled, but if you want lcd-monitor-sharp pixels, you definitely need that pixel shift off, and you need to cycle it on-then-off after every time you turn the tv off and back on.

It might not be. I used a 49" tv as a monitor for 2 years and my glasses prescription got worse quite rapidly. Switched to a 34" ultrawide and my prescription hasnt changed in a year so far, plus it seems to work better as a monitor anyway.
How about burn in and image retention? I have a LG C8 55" and while i absolutely love connecting my pc to it for non competitive games, i worry about extended play sessions because of static images while gaming.
Just managed to pick up the 55" GX, the flat wall-mount version of this screen. I was on the fence about getting a UW gaming ips, but I got a great deal and was able to pick it up for roughly the same price. I plan on putting my current 27" on a swivel arm, so I can keep using that for more day-to-day use and then swivel it away for secondary use and switch to the TV for gaming, video/3D rendering and streaming. I'm stoked to say the least, just a bummer I have to wait a few weeks.
@David Did you change the ClearType settings before trying to use it as a PC monitor? That makes a huge difference when using it with Windows or similar as it does not have RGB pixel structur as most LCD monitors. I would never use mine as a PC monitor without these changes. This is because ClearType is specifically made for RGB monitors so thus works less than ideal with other pixel structures. And no, just running the ClearType tuner won't change this as ClearType itself is the problem here.
Do you own a 32" monitor? I sit about 2 feet from one and I can certainly go larger. Especially considering I play most of my games reclining in my chair with a controller.

I personally use software called SVP to interpolate all my movies and TV shows to 60 fps.
the price is like 3 times the money i paied for my pc.
GG
Three times? Sounds like you need to consider upgrading your pc in the near future. Unless you just use it for basic tasks.
@@JBrown-go8ru I only use it to play League of Legends and do basic tasks.
I really hope that we might see 4k 120hz OLED monitors in the near future, with 27 or 32".
The 120hz oled are interesting.
Just wow
and i would never use a oled for office work just a terrible idea with burn in potential
Welcome back man :)
I miss the days where you had passion for this and didn't just come back to make a TV advertisement to get some quick cash.
The thing is, everything he said here is true
Isn't that too freaking close for a 48"? If your keyboard is that close your neck would be going up and down or side to side to check the mini map or to work on your excel sheet haha
Long time no see ㅠㅠㅠㅠ :(

of course you can turn it off and there are now, true motion and any other dynamic feature has to be turned OFF ALWAYS. color fringing is not a thing when you use the right mode and the right settings in the nvidia-driver.
I can totally afford this tv.😂 I just have $4,500 laying around.
It's only like 1400 now.
Just picked it up for $950 :)
@@mattias1099 Where?
@@zZrEtRiBuTiOnZz Swedish retailer with coupon code, unfortunately ): $1150 without it
@@mattias1099 That's still not bad. I'm gonna have to pick one up soon.
You aren't supposed to put TVs in them! 😬😬
Can someone tell me how he plays games in smaller view rather than full screen? Also can I do this in 1080p mode?
I'm just worried about the burn-in (I do have LG's 64 inch OLED tv but use it at 30% brightness)..
What job do you do by the way
$1500 ($2000 CAD) for a 48 inch.
Do you just hook it up to the tv via HDMI cord?
these comments seem fake
(Only drawback is i'm stuck with 4k120 4:2:0 sampling, but I'll get a new HDMI 2.1 capable GPU as soon as i can to fix that)
Thing #2 is - if you use it as a PC monitor and your text is fuzzy at 4k120 4:2:0, thats actually not chroma subsamplings fault.
Tired of these sponsored videos on youtube. No one does "real" reviews paid from their pocket anymore. They hype you about a product and you never see it again in their date to date usage . Please do not let these guys persuade your decisions when it comes to your hard earned money

I have had this for 2 weeks now and have been using the game mode so far. Thank you for the pc-input tip, that was useful. I am quite picky with my screens and had two high end Acer predator screen witch this replaced. The colors and black levels on this oled is just simply stunning. Will be buying a RTX 3090 for the HDMI 2.1 features as soon as it drops. Good review.
Just ordered mine. Not sure if I am going to match it with a 3080 or 3090 yet.
GTX 1080s support G-sync...
Will this not create eye problems ?
love the desk and you have really good points. i LOVE OLED ever since i switched with the LG B6 but I think it'll be a mistake getting another OLED tv to upgrade. i have up to 4 different health bars on all corners of my tv from gaming, lol. especially the damn hud from Destiny 2. they don't show up too much but are very prominent on redish colors. i think i might go with a non-OLED sony or samsung tv next.
Saw destiny 2 on the thumbnail and clicked😂. Have a 55” c9🔥🔥🏆
Have spent the last few weeks convincing the Mrs this is 48" Oled would not be too big for the living room. I even had to make a cardboard mock up!..I got there in the end though 😊
First world problem:)
Is it ok on the eyes to be gaming on a 48” screen so close? I feel like my vision is going to get exponentially worse year after year.
I have a LG C8 55" and while i absolutely love connecting my pc to it for non competitive games, i worry about extended play sessions because of static images while gaming.
too big and burn in to use as a pc monitor
I use a 43 inch 4k tv as a pc monitor and it's way too big already. The latency is also horrible.
use Microsoft PowerToys and put scaling back to 100%
Just managed to pick up the 55" GX, the flat wall-mount version of this screen.
Hi everyone
Mi 55inch 4K tv and LG 55UM7600PTA use as monitor
Which one better
I've had basically all screen sizes up to 40 inch. I can say that 27inch was and still is the sweetspot for me.
It’s too big. 32 inch would be Awesome
Do you own a 32" monitor? I sit about 2 feet from one and I can certainly go larger. Especially considering I play most of my games reclining in my chair with a controller.

In what world is 48" tv small?
Props to you for disclaiming that you got is from LG and you are using it only for two weeks. You may get about half year without too serious burning , then after a year you probably buy a new one
Use the CLUB 3D adaptor for 4K 120Hz HDR10.
David zhang calls 48 inch TV a smaller TV
Me laughs while watching it on 32 inch TV
1080p is enough
This model won't be available in Canada unfortunately.
Should I get this or LG’s 49 in super wide screen monitor?
I really enjoy your videos. They're so calming. All the hard work and efforts you put into these videos is appreciated! You're doing a great job!

Great review, I noticed you have an ultra wide like aspect ratio when in pc mode, how did you configure this? Can you configure this on any TV or is it specific to LG? Thanks in advance!
Welcome back. Just don't spend too much time playing video games.
