I thought the length of the video was perfect my man. Appreciate that you didn't skip parts that were common sense, like putting the shades and bulbs back on. For a novice DIY-er like myself, it was good to see those steps. Thanks for the video. I'm good to go to replace my switch now!

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

Before replacing the switch, try a squirt of WD40 inside the chain hole first…..
May save you a lot of trouble. It worked for me. The fan was in home we purchased 20+ years ago. So, just try it. ‼️ 1-16-2023

Thanks for the vid. 1. When gathering several wires together for the wire nut, use a small cable tie to get them all tight and equal exposure. Then twist them & the nut goes on & you KNOW it has them all securely connected. 2. Also, a 4" solid wire with a hook on each end holds the light assy up while you connect to wires in the fan assy.

You could, but some idiot may flip the switch on while you hands is in all those wires. Safety first. But I live alone so I just turned it off at the light switch. I have to reset all my clocks if I flip the main breaker.

@@handymanPF I took off the two screw fasteners and took the light assembly to the hardware store. They had the same pull chain switch for two dollars. I replaced the switch and cleaned the four glass cups over the bulbs. I put in four new energy efficient lights. The whole job took me 30 minutes. It’s beautiful. Thanks to your help, I look like an expert. I bought two switches just in case. Thank you sir.

No one uses electrical tape on wire nuts to hold them on.Ask any electrician and they will tell you to tape them on.I have seen them come off just from vibration.

Hi. Female trying to unhook wires from fan. Is there a trick to it.? Its not a wire nut but a different doodad connecting them, but further up is are wing nuts. Which ones di i disconect from...lower is just 2 wires further up are many. Thanks

If the wires are long enough going off the new switch to those two wires above , which lead to the light socket .. Then it's ok just to use the two wires .. I sorta question the fact .. that he cut the ones that held the 4 wires together myself .. It really depends on the manufacturer tired the 3 black coming of the socket with a black wire added to go to the new switch .. with 3 white wires coming of the bulb socket to a white wire ... the switch itself has two black wires .. Either way should work .. Much like a room light switch controlled to a ceiling .. which has a black and red white wire .. you can hook it up from one side screw to the switch .. The another to the opposite side of a switch .. And it will work all day long .. But they are marked on the light switch .. One side has a good screw .. That is for black wires .. One side has a silver screw .. that is for the white wires ... Only with a single light switch on the wall , you can put the black on white .. Or the white on black .. But let's say you have two matches that controls one light on the ceiling , then you have to make sure white is on white , and black is on black .. I have yet to open my own ceiling fan .. I hope it has two coming of all shocked tied together already . That's way I will only have to only book up two .. He should of cut the wires right were the Old switch started at .. And hooked up there .. It would of saved him time .. Noting having to hook 4 wires to all white , and 4 wires to all black .. I didn't get why .. Maybe the wires were to short .. ??? I do maintenance for over 18 years .. And this is not my first time dealing with electric things

Th ask for the video. My fan works but my lights do not. I turn my lights on and off at the wall switch. I have flipped the switch and I’ve pulled the chain and nothing. How do I know it’s this pull chain switch and not some thing that is causing the lights to not come on?

do you have to have the light switch part on the fan for the fan to work? I just need the fan to work not the light part.

    • @davewilliams1097

Not really "Hot" or "ground"....more like opening and closing a circuit. The same thing as touching those 2 wires together, just connecting them inside an enclosed switch.

I, too, think the light chain just completely pulled out - so, the switch may be okay? The link you included (amzn.to/2CXmOMS ) points to a page with many different items. Might I only need a new chain? Or is there something else on the end? Haven't removed the cover yet, and want to have what I need ready when I do. Also, if it's ONLY the chain, can I replace it without turning off the electricity? Thanks in advance.

I did that all to find out the spring burst through the housing. I had my WD40 with red tube spraying. It dripped down the chain. Chain never budged because it broke off the reel. The switch is only a few dollars.

When cutting the 4 wires from back side , and the 4 wires from white side .. He could of left the one wire leading up to the switch , and cut it right near the switch same way with black wires .. And not cut the 3 white and 3 back wires going to the sockets.. By doing it the way In saying , he would be booking up one back wire , and one white wire ... Sorta confused me he did it that way ... The clear coated connectors only needed 1 wire cut ... Not at the bit of that clear connected .. I myself would of made the cut to that 1 wire at the switch .. And then when adding the new switch .. You only have one wire white to connect , and one black wire to connect ... Yes it did work .. But no thought to cutting wire to save time .. Seen only one post , done by a woman .. She question the fact to were two wires nuts were at .. Good call lady .. You are not wrong ..
