Yeah I was even thinking about how they could totally have the contractors deal with the informal living room while they’re in Texas for a little while so they wouldn’t need to deal with the hassle of having the room they use the most being “out of commission” so to speak. But I don’t know how much MaCenna would be willing to or able to let people come in and out of her home without being present, even though her main contractor is someone she trusts, that’s why I didn’t suggest it. But maybe if they kept the contract work to a minimum, like just the beams or something, while they’re away, she’d be able to stomach it?
i love to hear these magazines/blogs encouraging sustainable design with materials, vintage finds, repurposing, etc. hoping that finally moves beyond a trend and becomes the norm because our planet needs it!!
You are absolutely why I have started going to thrift stores and antique shops looking for beautiful old pieces! I did not understand my own style even 2 years ago but through watching your content I've found my stye, and I love what my home is becoming :)
You and Drew opened me up to ALL THE THINGS I can achieve with my own two hands (I didn't intentionally use your signature quotes they just came out naturally lol)! You renovating the cottage inspired me SO MUCH! I finally purchased a humble 70's 2-bedroom townhome in Houston last summer and have been having so much fun making it MY home one DIY at a time. Going to estate sales and thrift stores has also become a favorite pastime. Thank you for all the joy and inspiration you bring to my life.
You absolutely have inspired me! Not just in embracing vintage and secondhand pieces but also in empowering me to challenge myself with home maintenance skills and DIY. I used our massive/heavy leaf blower today for the first time and also spray painted some branches to use for Halloween decor. You give me confidence to tackle new projects!

I, like you, try to stay away from trends and stay true to what I find beautiful, interesting, and intriguing. One thing my husband and I have done to (1) add character and (2) speak to our love of old architecture is, we add 1 piece in each room from old architectural salvage. We have a 100 year old mantle in our family room, 150 year old French doors as side lights into our pantry, an old printing table in our entry way, corbels on the wood picket fence around our garden. We are always looking for cool new pieces to add. We add about 1 new piece every 6-8 months. It makes it really fun and uniquely our style.
I would say you are the reason I found my decor style. I even started a vintage second hand Instagram shop this year because you made me fall in love with vintage and antiques! I love your channels and energy you bring to your videos!
I love that coffee table in the 14) adaptive re-use section. Scroll back. There is a live trunk as a pedestal, but a sawn perfect circle (lumber) for a top. I love that. You can see that both a tree and a human were involved in the design.
I really love what you say about matching the design and style of a space to the home. This is helping me as I just moved into a new house that leans a little MCM!
This year I went for it. I painted my living room Benjamin Moore WEDGE (dark burgundy) it presents as dark brown...i love it. moody dark academia did a gallery wall, with dusty rose jacquard drapes, and purchased Morris & Co. Owl and Willow rug from ruggable. Love my space.
I've started buying tea cups and making candles in them no scents but just for the vibes. I'm loving depression glass with the flame behind it its so beautiful
You’ve definitely built a love of thrifting in me, we don’t have the same kind of thrift shops as you, but our local Hospice shops is my treasure trove! I now just need to figure out my storage of my adorable decor finds
MaCenna is right , with red it drains me too ! Not for everyone of course because it’s a happy colour ! But sure are happy with the warm colours like gold and brass ! Thank you MaCenna !
You definitely have inspired me greatly in the past yr or since i found you on You Tube. Ive been incorporating more darker, moodier paint colors, decor, adding more gold brass etc. I love your style and all your content❤
The example you pulled from Pinterest for the landing suggestion with the furniture hugging the walls was just so chic! It made me think about how rules are always so context dependent, since there’s that rule saying that one shouldn’t hug the walls with furniture and leave a big open space but actually it makes so much sense in a landing, and I’ve seen so many super elegant spaces like this for example common spaces near lifts in elegant multiple flats or hotel rooms with a reception or something like that. I do agree that because the space is so big it would make sense to have something in the middle but I actually really like the grand feeling of the furniture hugging the walls especially with a statement rug and light. I don’t know if furniture in the middle would really ever be used I feel like it could be really in the way while having little set ups with chairs or little tables to place keys or even sculptures like a chest of drawers or even a display cabinet of sorts, could be so pretty. I personally would absolutely turn this room into an all encompassing floor to ceiling library with hidden doors! Not all doors, but it would remove that feeling of it being a non-space, a through space that is badly designed to be too large, by reducing the visual impact of at least some of those doors. And it would lend itself to cozy reading nooks and I’d still keep the center of the room free of furniture other than a statement rug and light. Also, any excuse to have magical hidden doors? Yes, please! It would give the space genuine purpose and reduce the sense of arbitrariness. I mean, theoretically they could also fully restructure some of these walls and open up the respective spaces those doors lead to making the landing space itself smaller and less wasteful in terms of the central space but that would be a huge structural undertaking and they may need to deal with the extra space in the respective rooms. But those would be my ideas 😊
P.s. why not remove the carpet and install a nice floor if possible, too, with the statement rug in the middle! Maybe the carpet came with the space and they’re not attached to it…?

Thank you for your vlog and know that you are appreciated. Xx 😘
Our business is all about tech. However, I am like you, I refuse to allow my home to become a smart home. My number one reason is that it opens your home up to strangers. Did you know that through smart TV’s other people can look in at you? Anything with a camera, people can look at you. How do you think those computer games that you are in the tennis game or exercise or dance class. The camera is projecting you into the character on the screen. Any portal that has a camera looking at you, even your phone or laptop can be hacked into to watch inside your home.
Except she is being very hypocritical with her statements about not making her home a smart home. She already has a Frame TV, in her latest vlog she is sponsored by a robot vacuum, and she asks "Alexa" to play a song for her and baby. She may not have a full on smart home but she has many things in her home that are techy/smart. Her comments came across as very condescending and "better than you" which was a big turn off for me.
LOL’d when you asked if you had influenced any of our choices to go thrift stores etc. I was influenced to go to all the way Paris just so I could thrift shop there with my mom like you did 😆 we had the best time!!! And I even watched your videos in bed in our little Airbnb 😊
We just bought a house in the country, former owner decorated in modern farmhouse, not my style, just not sure how I’ll be able to incorporate my style with it. I like a mix of moody, boho, eclectic, mcm! Finances are tight so I’ll have to live with how it is for a year. Hopefully I can make a mood board to eventually make it mine.
I am closing on a house in a couple of weeks that has a lot of the neutral earthy colors I like. But….the living room has a large poppy red wall with white shelves of random sizes and shapes. I hate it!!! The first thing I’m going to do is tear out all that shelving and paint the wall a neutral color. I can’t imagine looking at that wall for any amount of time! BTW. I’m so not a trendy decorator. I’m all about what makes me feel calm and happy. Love your podcast and channels❤️
I can see a turn into more French, formal and transitional as trending. A move toward more muted colour and relaxing. Personally I’m moving toward coastal, glam and modern.
Yes! 😍 You are great source of inspiration! I went thrifting before as well but I started to look at different things and tweeked my style and decor in "your direction". Not all-in, but mixing an eclectic style together with Swedish farmhouse (since I live in one). Love it!
I agree with hating the tech in your house. I don’t understand it as it’s all out of date by the time it’s actually installed. Being too tech is just a way to keep spending more money 😂
The older I get, the less colorful my walls are. I bring in color with textiles, accessories and books, which I have read or use as reference. As far as furniture I have everything from an 1870 treasure sewing machine to 2 month- new recliners in my living room. I have hand me down furniture from my great aunt born in 1884, my grandmothers born in 1894 and 1909, and my parents born in the 1920s. When anyone in my family is getting rid of furniture, they always contact me first.
How do you know whether to paint or refinish?? (Vintage/antique). How do you know vintage/antique when purchasing? I don’t want to take away the value.
I’m in KS (Midwest living). I absolutely love the idea of blending indoor outdoor feel but how do you deal with the bugs in CA. This time of year, flies galore here. Summer=gnats & mosquitoes. How do you combat that or do you just use a deterrent?
It's so interesting that you don't consider yourself a trend follower! Please don't read this in a negative light. I always feel like you do this in your own way! And your spaces are beautiful! However, I feel like when boho was trendy you were doing that. And now that more traditional spaces are trendy. That's what you have as well. Again, you do it in your own way, which I love! But I do find that you seem to follow the trends more than you think. Maybe agreeing with the majority of the trend list will change your mind too?
Agreed! I know that she says that she was still finding her style back then. So, theoretically that wasn’t “her personal style” but I think both are right. She probably could follow it more than she thinks, but less than she did in the past if that makes sense? But, truly she is so popular now I think that she is a force behind trends, instead of following them per se.
@@kaitlincrane_ for sure! I think it just gives a stuck up vibe when she says that and that’s what annoys me a little lol. Everyone starts somewhere and we can’t forget where we came from lol. She’s always been a unique creative but definitely had to grow into her space like anyone else

I’m an Interior Designer from South Africa… MaCenna, from my perspective you are the progenitor of some of these trends… And for the bedroom with the leaf wallpaper and green throw on the bed I agree with taking a lighter sage green from the wallpaper to paint in the white walls and ceiling.
Another South African Macenna fan 🙌🏼🙌🏼 how frustrating can it be to fall in love with some of her work only to find that we can’t get the same materials here!? All I want is a little bit of beadboard 😅
Just discovered your content. It is great. I have a random comment that have to get out, you are really beautiful, like if Mandy Moore and Britney Snow had a baby. This is totally a compliment, I love both of these actresses.

Then she came home and had a her Grad year, so she was up to her neck in preping for her year end show ( she won all the fine art competitions) then moved in with her florence roomies,SHE AND James moved in together in Sept 2023, so i feel ripped off, and feel they moved out far to soon andnow they are away for a few more weeks and I WILL BE DOING A WHOLE NEW THANKSGIVING DINNER!
I really enjoyed this Podcast. Your presentation is always engaging and pleasant. That said, I think I'm a bit old-fashioned with trim because I still like the freshness of White against a bold color. I also, think that red is an important color for me personally so I'll add it no matter what. I think it's fascinating that our personal ideals of vintage and reusing, and character, but our styles are completely different. Keep up the good work, regards to Master Cade and Miss Kinsley.
I feel like these lists are 85% like a cheap magazine's astrology section, saying things that are very obvious. Like, yes, luxury materials like natural stone will be in, they always are. The actual trend is in which kinds of natural stone are in. Like, it used to be granite, and then not granite at all, and now it seems some designers are starting to embrace it again. Being sustainable is another one, every single year they say that'll be trendy. People, hopefully, don't do that because it's trendy, but because we have a massive climate change crisis going on 😅
I also despise tech. It’s great when it works but it’s so expensive to repair when it isn’t functioning. I also don’t want to see any of the cords and stuff.
Can you do a podcast about color? Eg. What colors go together, warm vs. cool tones, etc. you’re so good at colors and sometimes that’s the hardest part of design
Don’t get me wrong, your style is amazing and your vision is extremely unique and you have a lot of talent, but I feel like you’re always trying to separate yourself from trends like you’ve never followed them and aren’t influenced by them and like your current style has always been your style, which if you go back to old videos you can clearly see where you did and have followed trends and where your style has drastically changed from your LA apartment to purchasing your two homes. Seems a little stuck up at times lol
There is a difference between following trends and her style simply evolving as she matures. Older women will certainly understand. Kindness should always be on trend 💕
I very much enjoy most of your content, but as an enhusiastic podcast listener, I must point out that you aren't making a podcast yet. I know the podcast is still fairly new, but your mindset is a third RUclips channel that people can *try* to listen to as a podcast. Your content still focuses on sharing visuals. You sitting in one place to talk vs. being more active is not the difference to making a podcast. Podcasts are about audio NOT visual. If you were listening to a podcast as you were stripping the beams, you wouldn't want it to be pushing you to stop and check a screen for the photo 'popped in.' It's not worth listening to you in the podcast app as your content isn't designed for that space yet.

Thanks so much!
Thank you… loved this pod cast….
Summer=gnats &
mosquitoes. How do you combat that or do you just use a deterrent?
You don't MINE stone, it comes from a quarry
It's so interesting that you don't consider yourself a trend follower! Please don't read this in a negative light. I always feel like you do this in your own way! And your spaces are beautiful! However, I feel like when boho was trendy you were doing that. And now that more traditional spaces are trendy. That's what you have as well. Again, you do it in your own way, which I love! But I do find that you seem to follow the trends more than you think. Maybe agreeing with the majority of the trend list will change your mind too?
@@natashachurch7506 I made a comment along these lines too! Lol agreed.
@@Mj-dk6yj Agreed agreed
sad beige was a trend a couple of years ago
When the text pops up on the screen about the promo code you are offering, it says to use the code for 1% instead of 15% off just fyi ❤ not sure if it is even worth editing but wanted you to be aware.
Love your videos!
One thing I love about your home is that it isn’t trendy. It’s beautiful and unique.
Thank you so much
I’m an Interior Designer from South Africa… MaCenna, from my perspective you are the progenitor of some of these trends…
And for the bedroom with the leaf wallpaper and green throw on the bed I agree with taking a lighter sage green from the wallpaper to paint in the white walls and ceiling.
Another South African Macenna fan 🙌🏼🙌🏼 how frustrating can it be to fall in love with some of her work only to find that we can’t get the same materials here!? All I want is a little bit of beadboard 😅
@@megsgant9892 I know! And all of the online stores with beautiful things that they have easy access to.
Oh yay!! Another South African fan!! ❤
Just discovered your content. It is great. I have a random comment that have to get out, you are really beautiful, like if Mandy Moore and Britney Snow had a baby. This is totally a compliment, I love both of these actresses.
wouldn't discreet tech fit into your goal of having an old home that looks character filled but that doesn't live like an old home?
That is 💯 me! I attended my first estate sale because I had been watching you do it and picked up tips on how to estate sale shop! Same with thrift and Facebook marketplace! I owe my newfound love for this form of sustainable shopping thanks to you, MaCenna! 🪞❤😊
Cracks me up that MaCenna doesn't know she is THE trend setter!
Definitely one of them. I feel Lone Fox, Drew, is also!
Omg you’re so sweet ❤
Sooooo true!!!
For being tacky!
Apparently this tacky vain soooo
Suburban chick doesn’t realize podcasts aren’t videos!!!
Now Cade has arrived you'll find everything moves quickly my son is almost 31 and my younger, daughter is 27 and is in Japan with her BF of 11-12 years. he's been so patient, we sent her to Florence for10 months, its part of her Ontario college of Art university program and I knew that so fed her TFSA, I saw them saying goodbye, that was no break up smooch!
The hair products part says you will get 1% instead of 15% off fyi
Hello! I follow trends to check I am not unconsciously following trends 😁
Your promo code at 20 mins. in says 1% off instead of 15 % off.
😂 I saw that too
Aww man!! So sorry guys it’s 15%
@@withmyowntwohandspodcastI was gunna say, mannnn 1% lololol
Why the headset? 😊
I love your podcasts....very informative...❤
I really enjoyed this Podcast. Your presentation is always engaging and pleasant. That said, I think I'm a bit old-fashioned with trim because I still like the freshness of White against a bold color. I also, think that red is an important color for me personally so I'll add it no matter what. I think it's fascinating that our personal ideals of vintage and reusing, and character, but our styles are completely different. Keep up the good work, regards to Master Cade and Miss Kinsley.
Lol buying more Halloween stuff is using sustainable materials?
I feel like these lists are 85% like a cheap magazine's astrology section, saying things that are very obvious. Like, yes, luxury materials like natural stone will be in, they always are. The actual trend is in which kinds of natural stone are in. Like, it used to be granite, and then not granite at all, and now it seems some designers are starting to embrace it again. Being sustainable is another one, every single year they say that'll be trendy. People, hopefully, don't do that because it's trendy, but because we have a massive climate change crisis going on 😅

Great podcast! Bring your mom back on soon! Enjoy your chats together!
I also despise tech. It’s great when it works but it’s so expensive to repair when it isn’t functioning. I also don’t want to see any of the cords and stuff.
❤❤
Thank you sweet girl. Love your podcasts. ❤❤
Very interesting.
Great episode!
Can you do a podcast about color? Eg. What colors go together, warm vs. cool tones, etc. you’re so good at colors and sometimes that’s the hardest part of design
When on earth have you ever seen her using any colour darling? She only knows brown and beige! What colour? Jesus 😂😂😂
Agreed!
There is a difference between following trends and her style simply evolving as she matures. Older women will certainly understand. Kindness should always be on trend 💕
@@brandy7977 agreed! Macenna could really follow your advice instead of trashing people who follow trends! 💕
Why is your thumbnail so unflattering ? I hope u did not choose it.
lol I did make it
I like it!

Hi
Red is a never.
The picture of your range hood in this podcast looks the most blue of any other, and it's BEAUTIFUL!😊

Why say “we” when you mean you. 🥹🩷
Because we're a community. You don't feel part of it and that's clear. Many of us, most of us, have no problem with 'we.'
@@tracygarrett3952 She’s one of my favorite RUclipsrs. I didn’t mean any harm. I’m just saying that taste in home design varies greatly from person to person and not everything that she likes or dislikes necessarily applies to each of her viewers.
@@noemigonzalez449 Cool. I'm sure she knows that we all don't have the same taste. I think she mentioned that early in the podcast. I think the 'we,' is more like a community thing, connoting friendship.
