The D70 was my first DSLR, it completely superseded my 2 Nikon SLR bodies. For the most part the 6mp produced better image resolution than my 35mm film cameras when using the same lens. Ultra slow (fine grain film) in good light and a tripod can exceed the detail produced by this sensor, but not in the real world. The down side of 6-mp resolution is it cannot take much cropping. You need to frame your subject with care. Like your example the plastic grip went sticky in the end. I think Nikon solved the problem in later bodies within a couple of years.
Definitely good DSLR’s, just purchased a D70s from mpb £45! 1000 shutter actuators, good as new, now to go with my collection D50,D60,D90,D200,D7000,D610 and recently purchase D100! Love it CCD sensors are simply the best, sold my Sony a7iii as my D50 colours just looked like it, my D50 is going strong as it’s my first DSLR I purchased when it first came out back in 2005, just love it
Nice video and useful information. I just recently received a D70 from a family member. And found myself loving it. I have newer Nikon Gear but this older vintage gear is great. I know have found a Nikon D200 and purchased it too fir $50.
That’s great ! The CCD vibes will certainly deliver some wonderful vibes ! Try the Holga F mount lens for fun ….. it’s $16 and so awesome ! Old school vibes Holga 60mm f/8 Lens for Nikon DSLR (Black) a.co/d/dIsUJOs
i had mine also for around the same money and i'm super happy with it, it's the only one i bring when i'm commuting to work with my first lens ever, the 50mm f1.4D
I just love the feel right ?! Seriously delivers in quality also ! I did just snag a 3100 for $99 however which is simply Devine. Video soon on that one
In front of me are my D70, d200, d700 and D7000. After a day of playing around with them all using old Nikon screwdriver lenses and an old DX lens, which did I have the most fun with? The D70. Sure the others take 'better' images especially when cropped, but the D70 can make me happy for the least cost and effort. Set the image to custom and select IIIa colour mode and the CCD lushness is very pleasing to the eye.
@@robbellphoto Also lets not forget the built in infra red remote shutter control - my D200 doesn't have that, nor do the D700 and D7000 (AFAIK), all requiring a cable
Liked Your Video. I am a hobbyist to do anything with Photography and related equipment . I tend to use My older camera's over My newer more expensive ones . I have 2 D70 Cameras in my collection of over 300 cameras , film and digital . Can relate to Your views .Again Good Video .
Amazing ! You have to make a video and show us mate for sure ! Question ….. does your house smell like a vintage camera store …. Mine does lol ;-) I kind of love it
Damn The goodwills around here at Midwest Ohio suck. I can never find any good cameras or even turntables or anything.... My dad gave me this d70 and I'm waiting on a charger for the batteries so I can finally start using it. I'm brand new to photography but I'm pretty excited!
You should be pumped! The D70 is dope. Sorry about your goodwill luck. Mine is fortunately been ok I’d say. Grabbed a Ae-1 black Canon SLR this week for 25$ …. Wildly cheap. Keep searching mate but check out my thrifting is dead video also. I do find eBay to be a good win and also goodwillfinds website on the sale days mate
Great find. When I got into digital photography I did similar with a Pentax Ist DL. I also shot alot of film then and now so having a camera I could use all my K mount lenses on was important. My current workhorse is a second hand Pentax K5 IIs.
Pentax for me …. Urgh they just really hold their value and people hardly ever budge on price. They’re the best quality feeling cameras on the market also in my opinion…. They feel hand made you know ?!
@@robbellphoto I agree. I got my K IIs second hand and it still feels like a premium product. I was glad to get it in such good condition and only a few thousand clicks on the shutter too. Practically new.
I got one from a charity shop a few months back for £100 with only 1800 shutter count, a complete boxed kit with Nikkor 18-70 ED & Nikkor 50mm 1.8D. Its fantastic. I had one in 2005 & upgraded several times but my images didn't improve much, I just gained bigger on screen menu's & more buttons to confuse me. The D70 is so intuitive & a joy to use again. 😎
Did you see my last video , grabbed one for $8 from KEH that’s works fine also. They’re so good ! I mean it’s a little bulky but the sensor produces lovely colors for sure ! I do however prefer the 40x in low light

I agree. The 35mm has my heart but the 70 is just a pleasure ! Wish the low light op was better however like you said. Tripods help for sure
Great video! I bought a D70 with a AF Nikon 35-80 lens for $35.00.
