In my future research study, I planned to use random sampling to sort 3 groups of research participants. I found this video helpful so that I could make the sampling easier. This saves me the grief of wondering how I was going to sort the groups in an un-bias way.

Good information here on how to select a random sample using SPSS. Not being proficient in excel, this video and other videos have been helpful in gaining a better understanding of various subjects. I have never had to use excel for this purpose but find it important to know.

I can see how the SPSS software is so helpful for calculating data and helping you select your random sample. This is much easier than having to manually change the data yourself or separate your data. By following just a few simple steps, this software does most of the work for you and can deliver more accurate results.

Prior to watching this video iI struggled with attempting to determine how to obtain a random sample size for my research proposal. It was good learn that their is an easy effective method that I could use in the future.

I have no experience with SPSS so I think this was a nice way to ease myself into it. I like that the program gives a lot of different options to create a random sample and it actually seems pretty user friendly.

I also am very new to this software, and I agree that this was a helpful video to ease myself into it. I thought it was interesting to watch all of the different steps you can take in order to choose a random sample.

This video was helpful, especially because I just recently read about random samples. In the text, however, it just says to use a computer program. This video shows how the computer program is used to select a random sample for a study.

I initially watched this video because I have learned in the past that selecting a truly random sample can be very difficult in a research study. However, this video went beyond random sampling and provided great instruction on how to select specific data to analyze and omit other data. For example, if your sample was a mix of males and females, and this was recorded in your information, you could easily analyze males and females separately as part of your results.

I found this video to be clear and easy to understand. This seems relatively simple to use and very effective.

Hi Dr. Grande, I am a student. I am having some issues with the understand random sampling. I wanted to know after this process does that complete the random selection and then I perform the frequency, then descriptive, and then explore to create a random sample chart and graph?

    Hello Dr. Todd
Is there any difference between using a random number table and using SPSS to select the samples

    Hello Dr. Grande,
I am a doctoral candidate and in the middle of IRB approval. I wanted to know how to use SPSS to select a random sample of the data of names and email contact information that I will use to send out my survey instrument?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Andrew

Hi ! First of all thanks for your time on explaining that to us ! But I have a problem ... In my study I have 3 groups... Group 1 , group 2 and group 3 . Now ... Group 1 has 400 samples , group 2 has 300 and group 3 has 150 . So I want to randomly select a sample of group 1 and 2 in order all the groups to have around 150 cases . But I don't understand how I'm going to make two different selections of group 1 and group 2 , without one of them gets diactivated. Hope I was clear enough 😬...

I’m a student and he’s asking to get a sample size of 400 and I cannot figure out how to do that using the GSS dataset 😫

For example select 2 samples: one male and the other female which doesnt have significance difference between them using spss
