- In this episode of "Failed Things in HHL" we are taking a look at one of the few non-Astartes and non-neutral factions in the game, the Adeptus Custodes.
Most well known for having the worst trait in the game, Sentinel, the Adeptus Custodes are up to a great start already. Find out what else has contributed to their ultimate downfall as a faction in general, which Custodes cards still see play today and what I think on how EG could improve them.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CANNOT BUILD A GOOD DECK WITH A CUSTODES WARLORD OBVIOUSLY. This video is not dedicated to "Custodes decks are bad", it is dedicated to the faction as a whole and I think its more than justified. For example, please take a look at the Nassau deck in the video and count the amount of Custodes troops and tell me this is a sign of a good faction.

I just want my golden boi to be playable. I hope the next expansion will make them really viable and don't get nerfed to the ground after 1 month. I hope they keep Valdor gymboss reckoning because that stuff is wack.
Fingers cross, they make him pre updated Fulgrim. Like how Fulgrim became a Gymboss post Whisper.

God I love Nassau. He's just so cute. Hopefully he's given a new form like Apagitto.
Nice video on the Golden Guard, loved it! If I could change one Custodes card I'd give the Caladius Annihilator a rally effect (deal 2x2 damage with ordnance 2). This is in line with lots of the other big tanks in the game which basically have something like "Rally: deal X damage". The cahnge would not solve the big Custodes problem but it would make a card (and model) I really love at least playable.
Sentinel is, of course, a huge problem, as well as understated troops with very negative trait, BUT why didn't you talk about their abysmall tactics, Raziel? Half of their buff tactics are TROOP EXCLUSIVE, even when it's cost doesn't show it much. +3/0 to troop and draw a card for 3e? BA have that for a warlord for 4e and that is so much more viable.
You know what i like about their tactics? that 6e "choose a powerful effect" card, and i thing THIS is what custodes supposed to be doing - why would i need 3 different 2-3e buff cards for a troop when it could be only ONE card? Make custodes the real jack of all trades MASTERS OF ALL TRADES. When every other tactic has that "choose effect" thing, it is effectively a faction with 100+ cards in it, which is hard to do, EG will make another "draw a troop" 2/35 warlord and call it a day.
Amon is supposed to be a control warlord - why don't we mix him up with human-form of Debeeran? Debeeran used to deal 1 damage for 1 energy, and if a target had 2 or less HP left he could act again. Somewhat of a counter board warlord, but let's just give this to Amon too. Also he should have battlehonour "Act again" to be able to use his counter board potential to it's fullest.
Back to Debeeran Dread - remove his useless +1/1 buff i don't need it in Custodes faction, make him straight up drop those 3/4 2e sentinel frontline guys every other use of ability. MAKE HIM THE REAL BOARD CUSTODES WARLORD, MAKE THEM FEAR BENEDICTION LEGENDARY CARD.

Also, I do like the "Custodes" keyword making them immune to tactics targetting astartes, infantry or vehicles.

...So in laymen's terms, what you're saying is that Custodes haven't gotten a noticeable update to make them relevant again in 10,000 years.
Custodes was such a shame when they failed. They are fun though bc Constantine and arascid can be built to be one turn kills with paragon spear. I think all these warlords should of had a battle honor to draw a card or at least a means to draw a card with out gimping your deck. And you are also right when you say they did not age well stat wise. I like the highlander mechanic idea.
I think that it could be fine to just make a warlord to remove sentinel from friendly units. Like Kalimakon could have
2: Draw a card. Next time remove sentinel and give +1/+1 to a friendly troop.
Would be nice and more balanced.
I'd just like to say that I'm down for the Highlander playstyle, as that's how I generally try to approach most card games anyways; one of every unit I can get my hands on, slotting cards in and out as necessary while maintaining that 'There can be only one...' mentality. Although that DOES bite me in the ass because I prefer running themed and meme decks, rather than something that's actually meta relevant; I AM a Night Lords player after all. Still, having a faction that caters to that playstyle would be something I would genuinely enjoy, and it'd also make the Custodes a surprisingly beginner-friendly faction.
I feel like if Sentinel stays as is, it should have some kind of buff to make up for the no card draw. If they're "standing Sentinel" maybe they could cancel 1 tactic/spell cast on them because they're on guard or something thematic. Might be too strong, I'm not good at balance. I do think Nassau either needs to rotate out into Legacy or be changed, he's almost single-handedly why Custodes don't get buffs, because he'd multiply them 10x.
Shapura is unplayable? Reckoning Valdor is unplayable?
Can you share the Valdor deck? Haven't played Valdor for a long time. Want to try if he worth it.

Honestly reckoning valdor dies on half way if you have enough brain to realize what he is doing
@@20yearsoldwithdementia You can force his reckoning with displaced civilians and Cthonian Mole Mortar but surviving until then and especially after playing reckoning is the hard part. If his reckoning started at 16E, well that would be a different story.
Still everything in the game is fine compared to the titans
