- Currently we must have an exact match to receive an organ from a donor, especially kidneys, but that may no longer be an issue.

New Procedure Allows Kidney Transplants From Any Donor
www.nytimes.com/2016/03/10/hea...
“In the anguishing wait for a new kidney, tens of thousands of patients on waiting lists may never find a match because their immune systems will reject almost any transplanted organ. Now, in a large national study that experts are calling revolutionary, researchers have found a way to get them the desperately needed procedure.”
Survival Benefit with Kidney Transplants from HLA-Incompatible Live Donors
www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/...
“Recipients of kidney transplants from incompatible live donors had a higher survival rate than either control group at 1 year (95.0%, vs. 94.0% for the waiting-list-or-transplant control group and 89.6% for the waiting-list-only control group)[...]”
Transplant rejection
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...
“When a person receives an organ from someone else during transplant surgery, that person's immune system may recognize that it is foreign. This is because the person's immune system detects that the antigens on the cells of the organ are different or not "matched." Mismatched organs, or organs that are not matched closely enough, can trigger a blood transfusion reaction or transplant rejection.”

We should be printing organs by now
I'd give my kidney to a loved one without a second thought, but for me to give my kidney to a stranger it would depend on the person and situation. That being said I am a donor upon my demise.
are you kidning me?
I had an incompatible Kidney transplant in 2014 from John Hopkins :) still going strong. thanks for brining awareness to transplants.
That 1 guy who disliked this video....i wanna know whats going on in its head.
It is unfortunate and highly inconvenient that people cannot simply be able to accept organs and other body parts from anyone. It would be most convenient if an individual could accept any organ from a member of the same species. This desensitization method sounds like an amazing thing that could open up more people being able to get organs sooner.
Bae changed her hair color... pink never looked so good
stranger yes, family no.
I think the kidney is the most stolen organ.
BRING JULIA BACK!
Hello Every one!! I was born with one kidney.. In Dec 1998 I had a donor from a motorcycle wreck.. Thanks to my organ donor Dec 23. 2016 will be 18 years and going strong. Charles
I've been an organ donor my entire life. I have opted to donate all of my organs, including skin, eyes, etc. so that others can have them when I die. Whatever is left over or can't be used, for whatever reason, is also going to be donated to science :)
I'm on the Lung transplant list because I was born with Alpha 1. This video made my day!!!
Thank you for the info on new kidney transplant techniques. I have two good friends on dialysis, one with both kidneys removed and the other with only 3% function. Sometimes you may think what you do might be frivolous, but I want you to remember that information can impact lives in a real and positive way. Thank you again.
I still believe that bio printing is a better solution than organ transplants!
Amy:"you can live with one but not with none". So thats why I would donate one of my kidneys. And if I die (am braindead) in a hospital eviroment sure take my organs not like they are of any use for me. I dont think there is any ethical problems regarding organ donation anyone disagrees? Ty
Totally would give someone my kidney
I would donate it for anybody seriously. My mother died due to lack of organ for transplantation.
As a dialysis patient for about 17 years now, this is a blessing. It's really hard to find a perfect match. And if I want a kidney patient, I would be more than willing to donate a kidney or even part of my liver to ANYONE. No one should have to suffer on dialysis. It's annoying, can be painful, and makes you weak and can cause even more health problems.
I am hoping to be a live kidney donor to my husbands co-worker. I go for all my testing on June 18th.
