  • Up for test today, a parallel charging board from URUAV. I've personally experienced several episodes of flames in previous parallel charging.... will this make things safer?

    This charger and a pair of these paraboards are already waiting in my cart (for payday, of course). It is really cool set. Because charger have probably best balance current at today between chargers with AC support. Discharging 6 1300 mAh 4S batteries to storage voltage in 1h 15m is very good result. And this board is probably the best 6 battery paraboard I know at today. Expensive, yes :)

    imho the big risk with charging is human error entering wrong voltage/current which seems to be cause of vast majority of mishaps. I've always preferred not to have to do this, so got Cellpro 10S chargers which autocharge at a chosen C rate (I always use 2C) you can plug in a 4S 3000mah pack and hit go, charge in 40mins, then plug in a 2S 300mah pack and hit go again - without touching any settings etc and that will charge in 40mins, so three chargers makes a really nice setup. Sadly they don't seem to be sold anymore I suspect they were too expensive for most people. I made up Y balance leads as mostly fly 3S so with packs within 0.1v so I can charge a 2 packs on each channel so 4 batteries per charger so 40 mins and I have plenty of batteries for an evening charged while I'm loading car.

      That's interesting - how does the charger recognise the capacity of the lipo? Certainly, human error is the main culprit in most problems. It's another reason I don't like parallel charging - with one lipo the charger can often spot you've made an error, but when the lipos are plugged into another thing it almost abstracts them away so the charger can't see what's happening on a per battery basis

      Both my parallel board incidents were human error but my boards have pointless 40A fuses soldered directly to the pcb and didn't blow and the results were pretty spectacular both time 🔋🔌🔥

    For the balance plug led is not the important. There are thermal fuses there which stop the amps flow then the led goes on. Big 👍 up to uruav for both individual fuses to the main plug but also for polyfuses on the balance leads. As far as for discharging Wayne..Plug your paraboard uruav blacklight to an aokoda 150w voltage meter which can discharge as well, much faster than any battery charger. In 30-50 minutes you're done.

    Thanks for the video! Do you think the HOTA D6 Pro could charge 9.3A for parallel charging 6 1550mah lipo HV at the same time?

    Awesome review, Wayne! 😃
    I have 2 parallel charger boards... One with XT60 and the other with XT30... The one I most use is the second one, because it allows you to parallel discharge (to storage charge) 1s batteries! 😂
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    So I have 2, 3s 1.5 mh and a 3s 1.8 mh. Could I charge them at 4 amps ?
    Great job

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 года назад

      Yes - or 4.8A as your 1C charge. Mixing up 1.5 and 1.8 size lipos is within the limits, although ideally parallel charging the same size throughout is better. Just make sure your individual cell voltages are very close together.

    You were actually the final straw that persuaded me to give up parallel charging and invest in more channels.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 года назад +1

      More channels > parallel charging. One lipo per channel is always going to be safer than 6

  • @noforyoutubepremium3108

    Yeah, I've had a battery flame on for me, and you're right, it's scary as hell! I quickly ripped it off the charger with a towel, and dropped it to the floor. It burned a hole in the carpet! The room, even aired out with fans for hours, stunk for a week or two! Definitely something I would never want to happen ever again. I put the balance lead in backwards for just a moment and the fireworks began! AND, IT CAUSED A CHEMICAL REACTION THAT COULDN'T BE STOPPED BY PULLING IT OFF THE PARALLEL BOARD! It went up until IT was done! fire🔥🔥🔥🔥😭
    So, seeing those LED'S light up and nothing bad or burning happen was a really Co0ol feature! I also love the fuses on every XT30 /XT60!
    That's about triple the cost of the cheap parallel charging boards, so kinda spendy, but considering the safety features, well worth it!!! 😎🤘
    Believe me, you have the fire I had, and it was just a small 460mah 3S battery, no big 4S or 6S, and you'll think like I now think - SAFETY IS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY! And this is well worth it! That fire and the urgency, will practically give you a heart attack! 🔥🤕😩
    .... and burn down your house!

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 года назад

      Yeah - it's significantly more expensive that the previous boards I had, but then they didn't have any fuses to blow! If you are going to do it, it's worth spending the extra - I guess you need to see it like that. It's not like parachute jumpers are constantly on the lookout for the cheapest possible parachute - I'm sure they are willing to spend money as well. It goes against my cheapskate instincts, but there's just something that shouldn't be the cheapest possible :)

    I had two battery fires and I was using parallel charging. I blamed the batteries as they where the same make. FUNFLY batteries. I@ve had many different batteries Acheche, Turnigy and CNHL, none of which burst into flames. Only the funfly ones. I tell everybody to stay away from funfly.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 года назад

      You still parallel charging Wycliffe, or have you gone over to one lipo per port. After a fire I find it hard to trust any part of the equation that led to it

    • @wycliffeb
      @wycliffeb 3 года назад

      @@CurryKitten I still parallel charge. I have one of the Bardwell fused boards and a bat safe. The first battery fire was in my study. made a real mess had to redecorate and have a new double glazed window put in as the battery had set fire to a plastic clock on the same shelf. I threw the battery and clock out the window but some hot molten plastic landed on the window frame and sill. Scary as bloody hell. The second Funfly blew inside my batsafe in the Garden where I now do all my charging. I've since had a shed built and when I charge I am never more than a couple of feet away. Lipo's are incredibly unsafe things, the chemistry inside is pretty finely balanced. I actually think the two brand new funfly's I had where from a bad batch as I know plenty of guys who have them and have no problems. I always get asked was I charging them at the correct c etc. The answer is yes theyw here being charged within all normal parameters.

    Put the balance plug in first if you use a decent board with self resttig polyfuses. Now current can sloy equalize without a surge.

    I was watching on my phone do can't see the writing on the fuses but I assume being blue they are 15A which should blow ok although you would be even safer changing them for 10A (red).
    I have two balance boards and they have 40A fuses directly soldered into the pcb, I've had two incidents so far, one with a 2s that was still plugged in when a 3s was hooked up and the 2s balance leads instantly burned off the pvc insulation and in a eruption of smoke and another time where two 18650 cells in parallel got shorted by a screw that had fallen into one of the sockets on the parallel board.
    Nether incident blew a fuse Because mine are stupidly high rated and pointless!
    I keep meaning to unsolder them and put 7.5 or 10A ones in but I've been too lazy lol.
    It's a much better design on that board, Its so stupid that the fuses are soldered in on my boards!

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 года назад

      Yes - I did neglect to mention they were 15A. 40A does sound pretty high - but I must admit I'm not sure what sort of surge we're looking at the could cause a lipo to go up... not much as far as the balance leads go though

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 3 года назад

      @@CurryKitten yeah, the 40A fuses on my boards are pretty much useless, I really should change them but I have started being a lot more careful and check for any metal objects that I might have knocked into the sockets before I plug anything in now as well as getting into the habit of unplugging battery's as soon as they have finished charging or balancing.
