Moradin seems heavily inspired by Tolkein's Aule. Aule was one of the original Vala (like Archangels) of Eru Iluvatar (the creator of all .. God basically). Aule was known as the Smith of the Valar much like the Greek Hephaestus or Roman Vulcan. When Eru Iluvatar set out to create mortal beings (beings that could die, but didn't have a necessarily have limited life span) he wanted the Elves to be the first born race of Arda. But, Aule wanting to create his own race of beings that he could care for and would care for him back forged 7 beings out of rock and stone and breathed life into them. However, only Eru Iluvatar could control the "fire of life" and as such Aule's creations were only an extension of his own will and had no will of their own. When Eru Iluvatar found out what Aule did, he was quite angry. To show his regret, Aule went to destroy his creations. But, Eru Iluvatar showed mercy on these beings as he saw their fear when Aule was about to destroy them. He made them fully conscience and gave them free will but only after he made put them into a deep sleep only to awaken after the Elves were created. Thus, the Elves could still become the first born race of Arda. These 7 beings became the founders of the Dwarven houses of which Durin the First was one (Thorin Oakenshield's people were descendants of Durin I)
You probably dont care but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of days xD
Deity and plane episodes are definitely my favorite. I've relistened to these more than any other episodes. Love that we got a new one, keep up the great work my dudes
Before the first gods were gods (had steady worship, fixed domains, et cetera), they were basically primordials, that didn't get along with the other primordials.
I think it's more that once the gods existed they exist outside time, so even though there is a definite point at which a god comes into existence, being outside time after that they have access to all of time. Essentially once they exist, they always did.
Aside from his wife, a good number of the other dwarven deities are his direct children. At least, as far as I know, this is mostly knowledge based off of Marthammor Duin being called the youngest of Moradin's children and a number of the other dwarven deities being called his siblings in the wiki entries for him.
Awesome. I'm glad you guys are back to covering deities. The ones you have dove into already were really great videos. You guys seriously deserve more than 10k subs. You guys are up there with webdm in my opinion.
Side note I too would like to see this outer planes beer pong tournament. I could also see Bahamut rolling in with his 7 Gold Dragon Bro squad like the Purple Cobras from the movie Dodge Ball
Ironically you mentioned dwarves creating gnomes but in Dragonlance it is the other way around. The gnomes were created by Reorx who is the Dragonlance equivalent of Moradin. The gnomes were exposed to the chaos gem and those that were very industrious became dwarves and those that were really curious became Kender.
I'm running a dwarf character who cast himself out of his clan because his progenitors were evil and he didn't want to follow in their footsteps. His clan didn't help him (what he didn't realize was that they were testing him to see if he would stay on the right path without incident.) He's a cleric of Moradin, but because he's still young for a dwarf, he has no idea how to worship him properly, and every time something goes wrong, he thinks he's out of favor with Moradin. What he doesn't realize is that the fact that his spells function properly proves that he is still in good standing.
I really enjoy the deity episodes ^_^ I'd love to see a look at how the mantle of God of the Dead passed from Jergal all the way down to Kelemvor, because those stories are wild.
As im playing a forge domain hil dwarve i can GUARANTEE he can drink ALOT. We had Moradins NIGHTwherehe descendet to the prinaterial plabe for 8 hours every millenia...... the entire dwarven Booze storage are EMPTY now. So yes he drinks moderatly.
When he forges souls of dead it's into celestial/archon swarf guys who make up his celestial army for the end of days. Thts what he's "retempering souls" for
So this will be a big ole tangent but here we go. Near the end of the episode, you mentioned Ao, the DnD version of a supreme being. I was familiar with him and had heard his name in passing but never knew much about him. So I went to the forgotten realm wiki page for him after a quick read he seems to be the god of divinity itself, constructing and enforcing the rules of godhood. At one portion when it alluded to his position to him in the grand scale it said first that he was the overgod. Then it said that he may serve someone called the luminous being. When you go to his Wiki page it speaks sparsely about them saying but one paragraph. "The luminous being was a mysterious entity that existed beyond the normal cosmology, at the beginning and the end of time simultaneously, yet outside time and space proper.' " This isn't a great wealth of information and so I looked deeper I happened upon a vs wiki which had greater knowledge on this mysterious being who quote "is a being beyond all realities and even existence itself, they are charged with the creation and destruction of universes, acting in both harsh and kind ways, being both cold and forgiving at the same time. Little was known of their entity or appearance, and even the greatest of over god, Ao, seemed to bend to their every whim, carrying out their will with obedience," Upon even further investigation it seemed that many online held the theory that this being was, in fact, the dm. Influencing thing in the macrocosm to minute detail. This leads me to the actual point of this entire tangent which is, in fact, a campaign idea. What if in what was seemingly a generic campaign turned into a meta mess in which Ao turned against the luminous being distorting things in the campaign without your permisson. It becomes this battle against this supreme being were the dm attempts to help out the players in a world that he's been cut off from. You would be surprised as the one singular orc turns into 6 storm giants to your befuddlement. All in all you could seriously fuck with the players and characters as you the dm have direct interaction with them tryig to lead them through to safety but only having limited power .
Did Moradin kick out the Duergar, or was the clan that took over their hold greedy and didn’t want to give it back (so they said Moradin wanted them out)?
Great episode I loved it. Love all of of the stuff you guys do including all the stuff on TDC plays. I was wondering if you would take game request for you guys to play on TDC plays? A bit random but I had a weird dream the other day, I was playing d&d in your game that goes on RUclips. now I have crazy ideas of what could be going on in the game, i'm probably totally wrong but i love thinking about the world that you have set up. I'm always looking forward to more stuff from you guys. You do a great job
I wonder when will my favorite tharizdun, our father, are Lord, the one that will rebilled the universe anew (Joke) (edit) but siriously I love going against the cults and smiteing the heak out of them
everytime one host gets you slightly in the mood of dungeons and dragons the other host pulls you out of it. I feel like staying focused on the content, and vibe therein would benefit the people trying to immerse themselves in this world.... maybe just a personal opinion
seems like you guys dont understand how mythology works. some shit is just infinite. some gods just existed at the beginning. you dont have to pick everything apart looking for details.
Just created a forge cleric worshiping Moradin this helps out a lot

So Moradin was just making his own tabletop minis and created dwarfs.

@Caspian Allen Yup, have been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
@@ronniecastiel6970 hello fellow stoners, what is instaflixxer you speak of?
Moradin is that dad that just wants you to become a doctor
More like he wants you to become a civil engineer...
On a football scholarship

so, if the Gods always were, but the Primordials were first, have they always been for longer?
The primordials existed before there was a been... I guess?
Chickens and eggs man.
It's like how there are infinites, and there are _bigger infinites._ So the math checks out!
Before the first gods were gods (had steady worship, fixed domains, et cetera), they were basically primordials, that didn't get along with the other primordials.

Huge THX! I'm preparing some lore for one of my players who decided to be a Moradin Palladin. This video helped alot!
Was searching for something to watch this evening then boom here you were. Good stuff, keep it up!
I just created a dwarf following Moradin and just search moradin dungeoncast glad it didn't disappoint I was hopping you guys did this. Thank you

At about 20:00 I love this analogy. Brian saying this actually inspired a character I want to write.
You guys are awesome. Looking forward to more deities. Love your work. Long time watcher and I hope to keep learning
also in one of the books, a druegar says it doesn't mind if they do good thinks Moradin would never reforge their souls.
I, too, would pay to see a match of beer pong between Moradin and Corellon Larethian vs. Gruumsh and Magubliet!

This is cool as hell. Did they ever make a video about the rest of the pantheon?
"The All Spark" is Transformers 😂
I thought moradin loved to hang around in Dwarven strongholds openly

I have always considered Ao to be Ed Greenwood.
Trying to read this is kind of hard..
I loose focus and sometimes loose track in the sea of words.
Anyone else have this issue?
Dang stepping it up with the new sweet intro cinematic
Did Moradin kick out the Duergar, or was the clan that took over their hold greedy and didn’t want to give it back (so they said Moradin wanted them out)?
Moradin doesn't have an origin because he is a a multisphere power.
Could you guys do an episode on Sigil?
We will eventually.
