It seems so long and that's probably why it's so tail happy. If the M2 had the same rear end look and tail lights as the M3 has OMGAHHH I would be In love wit that thing. E30 - Started it all - Legend E36 - The best handling / US version got the weak motor (Still Pissed) E46 - Great engine / Best looking (I'm bias) E92 - Best Engine / Large and heavy F80 - Best Interior / Otherwise nothing special M Cars are suppose to have a special engine. BMW now re-purposes a regular engine with a more aggressive tune and puts an M badge on the back. This includes the mighty 1M as the poster child. They have lost their way and have watered down the M badge with way too many models lately. Just my $.02
The only M cars with a regular engine with an agressive tune up are the 1M and the M235i every other M car has a modified version 'S' engine. I will agree they are slowly losing their way but I only say this because I'm a bigger fan of naturally aspirated than I am of forced induction, and still I can't complain because f10 and f80/82 have beast motors.
+FTLAUD 911 I only did few laps on the Nordschleife in E92, but more in e46 and would say V8 is not so much heavier and got great sound :) myself prefer e46.
Love my E46 M3. Cant think of any car that I would swap it for for the same money. Perfect engine. Perfect handling. Great power. Squats down the faster you go. Sounds great. Great boot for golf clubs. Comfortable seats. 0-60 in under 5 secs. Nice to drive slow and fast. Drove the F80 and while I liked it it did seem a bit too like a computer game, and it sounds shit! Would love a spin in an E92 M3 though with that DCT gearbox....yum yum
It's all personal opinion really. I have 2011 E92 it my personal fav, went and bought one. Almost anyone I run into with pre E90 models drool, and friends that went with newer all regret getting rid of their's. That should cover the opinions. I don't daily it, but a few times a week and it's a smile always all I can say.

BMW E30, E31, E34, E36, E38, E39, E46 kenne ich aber was BMW danach produziert hat kenne ich nicht und will es auch nicht kennen, die Scheinwerfer und Heckleuchten ab 2000 sind katastrophal welcher Designer hat die Hässlichen Scheinwerfer und Heckleuchten gezeichnet? I still love the E36 most. Best sound with understated styling, and it's just modern enough to drive everyday.
E46 M3. By far the most beautiful, brutal and timeless look. And still fast enough these days.
