Pete I have a 2hybrid at 15degrees loft. What is the main difference as I have always had a hybrid and not a 3 wood. My Taylor made hybrid looks very similar to the ping as the sole is very flat. Just wondering what the hybrid versus 3 wood difference is
This was amazing. The first RUclips video to not advise buying something new. Also the sly lesson on fairway woods, their purpose, and how to hit them snuck into the middle of it - inspired. This was a review, lesson, and build my bag all in one. Classsss.
I have the Ping G410 LST 3 wood and it is money. Love everything about it. The low profile, look behind the ball, the sound of it, the flight it gives the ball.
2 years ago i got me an M2 2016 3w with aldila rogue silver 70. I hit it so fast low spinning and far, if correctly hit, longer than my driver, but if not, it was aaaanywhere. Now i switched into a Cobra speezone with hzrdus smoke yellow 70g 6.5, super nice club, i am a taylormade woods lover but this cobra 3w is the perfect combination between perfect spin from tee and off the deck, forgivness and controll, and thats the point of a 3 wood. Nice vid pete :)! Love those content for all tech guys out there.
Pete I love the way you seem to be a lot more focused on comps this year and I think your reasoning for changing clubs in your bag, is spot on. Have a great tournament week and don't let any negativity cloud your round. Remember when you've hit it nowt you can do but assess the outcome and to try to hard😍😍👍
Your opinion is spot-on, Mr. Finch. As a recreational hack, I only care about whether or not I can still find the ball after I use my 3 Wood, which is why I purchased a 410 SFT last year after PING dropped the prices of the 410 line prior to the release of the 425.
Love these build my bag videos. its nice to see the range of testing and input from you, not just gushing about a particular club because hey sponsorships. Keep em comin please
@@johntheplumber2399 agreed. I bought the 3 and 5. By far the best fairways I’ve ever had. Easy to launch. Go plenty far. Good adjustments. Looks great and sounds decent too. Also excellent shafts as standard for me.
I appreciate your thoughts and view points on equipment and " Golf Thinking " in general. I only wish my 62 year old body could swing a club as well as you do.
Good vlog Peter - good comparison work and I think a good choice at the end. I am currently STILL using a rather old TaylorMade V-Steel 3 wood and using it more off the tee than before. And I still love it. Good luck with the comps and cheers
I like the look of TSI and also had the same problem with distance. we added some loft with the sleeve and fixed the problem pretty easily. love it now.
I love my three wood so much. I always heard when you find one you love you’ll never want to move on from it. I use a PING G400 and I can’t see myself getting rid of it unless I upgrade to a newer model PING. The shape and shallow face is just perfect and it’s honestly effortless to hit.
Love the build a bag vids!! Along with all your videos!! As far as this 3wood battle goes there's that saying "if it's not broke, don't fix it" 👍🏻👍🏻 and your g410 does what you need it to, looks good to you, feels good so a no brainer, you have to love what's in your bag which in turn brings confidence!! Which hopefully brings trophies 🙏🏻👍🏻
Great video Pete! I’ve been rocking the same 3W for years now, since 2010. A Sonartec SS-03, given to me by someone who broke the shaft and didn’t want to take the time to re-shaft it. I wouldn’t give it up for anything else at the moment.
I had a 13 degree titleist 909 f3 with a stiff voodoo shaft (the spiral looking maroon one) for years and years. I have only JUST changed it out for an epic flash. That old titleist was one of the best 3 woods ever made, in my humble opinion. Changing it out was a BIG call. I only changed it as my swing had changed over the last 10 or so years, but It certainly was a hard thing to do.
I bought myself an m5 off ebay a few weeks back for under £100 and set it to 16 degrees. It's a bomber. Really forgiving and at least 10 yards longer than my old steel shaft TM v steel. Great video Pete
Interesting video Rick. I have been using a Wilson Staff db for about 20 yrs so decided that I needed to upgrade to one with more tech. I tested and was fitted for a G425 Max 3 wood today, lofted up to 15.5. Loved it and bought it. Tried the SFT as well but didn’t get the ball speed or trajectory that I was looking for. My swing speed isn’t fast enough for the LST so didn’t bother trying that. My new 3/4 wood will get its first course outing tomorrow, hopefully it proves as forgiving on the course as it was in the fitting studio today.
My favourite series on RUclips, best way to learn how about plenty of new clubs and decide when to waste my money on them hoping I'm as good as Pete afterwards 😂 cheers Pete
The G425 for me - I crushed mine 265 yds today. Was funny as it crashed into some old guys on the green. They were not happy but we just laughed and told them they should be shielding and played like women.
As a 20 handicapper I don't have a 3 wood(metal) in the bag. I have an Adams Tight Lies 5 wood and a Cleveland launcher 4 wood. They work well for my game and will probably never change them. That 4 wood is as good as any 3 wood I've looked at and the carry has been close to 3 wood. Thanks for the testing though good stuff as usual Pete
2019 I said you need to talk through your pre shot routine, ESPECIALLY in your comps, Peter it’s ok to talk to yourself out loud if it works, good luck in the comp, routing for you mate 🏌🏻♂️⛳️
I use the M5 3 wood, and it's never coming out of my bag as it's a rocket ship. I love the look and feel of it and the sound. It's the best 3 wood around easily.
Good to see a sensible review and decision 👍🏻 those Pings look like they would be really easy to hit off the deck. I haven’t got a 3 wood in the bag, but I’ll be looking at one of these.
I'm playing SIM fairway woods now. Played 915fd for 5 years and had r7 prior to those for 7 years. I'm definitely one that when I find a new 3 and 5 wood, I stick with them.
Switched over to the 425 max from 400 max. Only had chance to play 2 9 holes with them but so far liking them. Got the driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 7 wood. Only was able to hit driver and 7 wood on the course but did really well with them compared to my other. Seems to have better dispersion rate
I'm currently looking building my bag and am at the 180+ yards clubs. I have and adams ovation tight lies offsett 7 wood that I seem to hit better off the ground than a ping g425 hybrid 4 or sim2 max 4 hybrid. I'm thinking about getting the ovation tight lies offset 5 wood. The offsett seems to help me. Looks like the speedline you mentioned is offset somewhat too. What would be a modern offset fairway wood group that I could look at?
I’m still using a taylormade Jetspeed 3 wood. Lately I haven’t been getting along with it though. It used to be my fairway finder, but right now I’m hooking it into oblivion.
Just switched my SIM Max D woods out for Ping G425 Max ones. Love the flight, consistency, and very forgiving clubs. Shots that would have been lost with the SIM have stayed in play with the G425.
Superb video Mr. Finch! A little bit of draw bias aside (it happens to the best of us 😉), it seemed like your swing was in a pretty good place. Personally, 3 woods are my favorite clubs to hit off the tee and I like seeing a good player such as yourself seriously consider the philosophy behind hitting particular clubs. It's also nice to see the G410 retained its spot in the bag; it may not have looked as good as the G425 or Titleist, but, as you said, it was a very good performer (it produced nearly ideal numbers- really impressive stuff). I wish you well in your upcoming competitions and I hope your wrist is okay.
I'm constantly telling myself I don't need new clubs (it doesn't work, I literally bought a new putter today), but I would love it if you did a build-my-bag video every week
I don't carry a 3w but I do carry an original Epic 5w which is coming up 5 years old. I have tried a couple of replacements and they are definitely a step up - longer in carry by just under 10 yards but crucially a lot more forgiving, there are also more shaft options including lightweight shafts which I need to try for the best head/shaft combination. So my experience is that there has been some technological advancement over the last 5 years. Whether that is the case compared to a couple of years ago is more doubtful
Yes I enjoy this series, but I would love to see you compare hitting wood shift’s against your personal favorite shafts, bye the way I always give a thumbs up so one for me would be amazing.
As a beginner golfer.... ( started in July last year ) I have managed to get down to 10.0 what I’ve got out of golf is clubs don’t really change but the person does! When I started I bought sim driver/3wood/4hybrid and sim irons... since then my swing has completely changed and I have a quicker club head speed, Now I game P770s KBS shafts, sim 2 driver with 70g hazardous smoke! The shafts IMO is the thing people should look at especially if they are new to the game as technology can only go so far!
Went for a G425 FW fitting, didn't love it.. On my way out spotted a good as new G410 FW in the demo sale rack, picked it up and hit it, it outperformed G425 in every way.. Ended up walking out of the store with it and saved about 200eur.
I have the exact same setup in my g410, and absolutely love the club, and I carry it 270yds so I don't think it will leave my bag for a long time unless it breaks
You seem to have found the same issue I found with the last couple titleist "3" models. I actually switched into a 16.5 head cranked to 15.75 and its just perfect now. Might be something to try!
I've tried a ton of newer fairway woods and I keep going back to my Callaway XR16s. They are the easiest to hit and the ball just loves going dead straight with them.
I love the sense of humor you bring to your videos Peter .I'm still using my cobra bio cell 3 wood .I just love it .sadly I don't it mine 300 yards lol .great video keep up the good work
I had the g410 last and loved it but loved the g425 max even more. I think you need to retest with a g425 max and ditch the LST. The slightly bigger head makes it a dream to hit
