  • CSX manifest over 2 miles long running down the middle of the street for over 4 blocks! CEO Hunter Harrison has been running huge monster trains to cut costs. This manifest has all kinds of mixed freight and took almost 15 minutes to pass me. This historic railroad was built in the road over a hundred years ago and I have a couple historic photos near the end. This is Saint Marys West Virginia along the Ohio River. Thanks for watching! @@Dude0000 Most train cars hold more than a truck is legally allowed to haul. You certainly aren't going to have trucks hauling the same load as a 100 ton hopper, or a 125 ton freight car, which are their capacities. Most trucks are 40 tons and below.

The townspeople probably take it in stride and it’s probably not a big deal to them anymore but you still have to admit, it’s not something most of us see (especially running down the main part of town. I counted 202 cars with 2 engines. They have a low speed limit when running through towns. Roughly 10, 200 feet, with locomotives. Close to 2 miles. Consider just how powerful the locomotives are now, to need only 2 locomotives. Their route must be mainly flat.

It's long to make more money, only have to pay for fuel for 2 engines and 2 crew men. Dangerous to have trains that long. Picture a hot box or some other problem on the 193rd car, let's see how long to walk the length, of that train, then decide what to do. How do you set out a car on a train that long. What's if's up the ying yang. It's cool to look at and it makes more money for the share holders. But it is just to long to run in a town.

No it just shows how much you can pull with nearly 300,00 pounds of tractive effort. You could pull the same train with SD-70s or SD-90s.

"Why were you late to work?"
"I got stuck at the railroad crossing"
    "Again?"
"Yeah but this time it was 2 miles long..."
"You ca- WAIT!?! 2 MILES LONG!?!"

The question is rhetorical, but who the hell builds businesses next to a railroad and then paves the road right up to the tracks so vehicles can patronize said businesses. I guess this West Virginia town does.

Yes, Harrison put the squeeze on and put a lot people out of work in the rail yards.

All that hazardous material passing through the street like that, that would scare me. They do ship crude oil on the railroad through my town. What if one of those trains derails one day.

Most if not all of those tank cars were LPG tanks, not oil.
