  • Just got my OTG setup, so thought I'd do a video showing VPX and stock Addams Family on the new ALP 4K. Video is shot at .5 zoom, so there's a bit of a fisheye effect. Will try to find a better camera angle in the future to avoid distortion.

    You've helped me reduce some anxiety about setting up VPX. You said that you had "a handful of tables." setup on VPX, and I think that is important. If I just started slowly and pick just a handful of tables that I know I want to play, it seems less intimidating. I just got a Star Trek 4KP. I can't stand the lag on the Zen tables, and I think the Zaccaria tables are hideous. So, I going the OTG route a lot sooner than I planned.😄

    Danny,
    Thanks for showing some VPX Addams Family! Yeah, the VPX Addams Family is definitely based off of a fully modded table, Uncle Fester in the electric chair and the blinking lights behind the backglass aren't on a stock original. Also, one of the main reasons the VPX Addams Family looks more realistic then Zen's AtGames effort, is the playfield is illuminated by the bulbs on the table in VPX. In other words, when you see the flashing of lights, you'll see them reflected equally on the table. The Zen Addams Family for the 4KP doesn't add in that effect making everything look flatter, probably to reduce flipper lag.
    I'm looking forward to putting mine together, and the main reason I got the 4KP, was to make it a VPX machine. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what are the specs of the PC you're running? I want to buy something that has enough juice to fully handle VPX with the 4KP's 3 screens, without breaking the bank.
    Thanks again for the video!

      Agree completely on the lighting. It really makes a huge difference in the way the tables look in VPX.
      The PC I'm using is really overkill. Ryzen 9 3950X, 64GB RAM, 2TB NVMe, and RTX 2080 Super. It was my older gaming PC before updating, so I had it sitting around waiting for a use.

      @@DannyWelch Thanks for the info! My main computer has a 2080 Super, I LOVE THAT CARD! I hope I don't have to go that high for my VPX build, but at least I have an idea now on some pieces that work.

    I'm hearing the accelerometer is interfering with the plunger somehow. Not sure if that's accurate, something I heard from someone in another RUclips vid.
    Other than the plunger, yeah, everything feels great in OTG and I basically don't play any of the built-in tables. You get a good VPX table set up and it will be better than native or even Pinball FX. Biggest problem I'm having is VPX feels so real I try to shake the machine ... so if we can get that accelerometer working, it would be perfect!

    • @DannyWelch
      @DannyWelch  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, some of the VPX tables are absolutely fantastic. Been really enjoying Volkan today. Such a great theme. I also catch myself shaking the machine. Hope the accelerometer can be passed through OTG. If it can't, I might consider just adding my own and connect it separately.
      I also agree that there's no need to buy tables for the ALP once you get a good OTG setup going. The VPX, FP, and PinballFX3 are incredible.

    Could it be your just getting used to the latency? After a short time you can adjust to it

    • @DannyWelch
      @DannyWelch  6 месяцев назад +1

      That's 100% possible. If I recall from Wagner's testing, the OTG and stock Addams Family have very similar latencies, so might just be adjusting as I've been focused on those tables. The Magic Pixel tables have lower latency.

    Have you encountered any problems with the loading of the video. I’ve had to unplug the HDMI cable from the back of my computer and then replug it in so the video screen could pop up. Thanks in advance.

    You can definitely adapt to the slight lag on Addams Family, as the high scores prove! May I ask what you have in the computer that is running VPX? I apologize if it is stated in the video, but I missed it. And yes, I dislike the deluxe tables too, my least favorites by far. Exo-Planets really stinks. I am awaiting the release of the Pinball Packs.

    I just subscribed!! Any chance you can show a video on what kind of cables you bought and how you did key mapping in windows 11? You would be my hero forever!! I have pinup popper with vpx tables running right now just waiting for my atgames table!

    • @DannyWelch
      @DannyWelch  6 месяцев назад +2

      For cables, it's 3x HDMI and a single Type-A Male to Type-A Male USB. Depending on your video card, you'll likely also need a couple of DisplayPort to HDMI adapters. For key mapping, I have mine mapped in VPX and Pinup Popper using gamepad mappings at the moment, but looks like I'm going to need JoyToKey for Pinball FX3. Once I set that up, I'll do a video that covers how to map everything.

      You do need a PC for things like Pinball FX/3 and VPX using OTG, but you don't need it to play the built-in tables and ones that you can buy from the AtGames store. There are over 100 tables that you can play without a PC.

    • @DannyWelch
      @DannyWelch  6 месяцев назад +1

      For most cabinets, I'm using FULLDMD versions of the backglass. That seems to provide a nice DMD in most cases. I then disable the DMD in VPX by pressing F1 and unchecking both of the DMD options. The latest Baller Installer is what I used for setup.

    It’s great you’re trying to showcase the difference, but the camera is way too far and should be aimed directly at the playfield. The angle of the screen also washes out the color and doesn’t do G5K’s Addams Family VPX justice - just a little advice.
