I so feel you being emotional at the end.
Outlander came to me in a time in life I've really needed it too. Both the show and the books were my personal life-support systems for a good few months of depression, literally keeping me going. Eventually I climbed out of there, to no small extent thanks to the characters and places I met in this world, and they've been a part of me ever since ❤

I’ve found myself crying many times, especially reading the books. I wouldn’t be able to read the pages because of the tears. I’m so glad you love Outlander as much as the rest of us love it. I’ve really enjoyed all of your reactions. See you in November. 💕🌹

There are things left out of the show, either because it wasn't really needed to move the story forward or because there simply wasn't time, but there are things left out that are just soooo Outlander that it's good to have had. (Did you know Jamie kidnaps Lawyer Forbes' elderly mother at one point? He takes her out to the country for a pick-nick and behaves like such a bad boy and even rolls up his sleeves to flex his muscles for her and makes her blush like a girl. It's such a funny scene.) Quit putting it off and read that book.

Ahhh, this episode will always be special for me. The very day after I finally watched this episode I actually met Sam (Jamie), John Bell (Ian), Duncan Lacriox (Murtagh) & Charles Vandervaart (William) at a fan convention in Melbourne! I wore one of Claire's season 1 costumes from Lallybroch, Sam called me Sassenach, I called him Foxcub (Gellis' pet name for this in season 3) and aaaaahhhh, it was devine

The William and Jamie tension is off the charts … and they did such a great job casting William. He looks just like Jamie! Imon on a personal note I feel bad for you for having crappy history teachers, as you did not know who Benedict Arnold is.

2:51 Jamie lost a finger in the book. It was a finger that had been broken in so many places when he was tortured by Black Jack Randall that it stuck out uselessly and had broken again and again over the years, and it honestly was a blessing to finally have it gone. Claire was able to do a surgery to remove the finger, then fuse the hand back together in a way that made the hand more useful than it had been years. But it would have been a huge unnecessary expense to CGI Sam's finger out for the rest of the series, so I get why the cut that. Actually, a lot of longstanding injuries are cut or are not as severe in the show as they were in the book. Roger did temporarily lose his voice in the show, but in the book, it was severely permanently damaged. He used to have a booming beautiful singing voice, and for years after he was hanged he listened in sorrow and envy whenever he heard someone else singing because now his voice is a raspy, weak mumble.
The MacKenzies' 20th century cliffhanger is actually the same cliffhanger as the end of book 7 (with one extra development that I won't spoil), which means that we're actually going into book 8 story lines for the second half. The cliffhanger on the Fraser/18th century side of things is still a bit more down the line, but at the rate we're going, I bet it gets to the end of book 7 material within 3 episodes.
There was a debate on Twitter after this episode aired about Red Jamie "fading" on the battlefield after he shot William's hat off. I mean, he was still Red Jamie. He still killed a few people in the battle after that, but it is certainly true that he was very distracted and shaken after nearly shooting his son while avoiding shooting his cousin who ended up getting shot, anyway. Red Ian was fully present, though.
I've mentioned before that the biggest difference between Book and show-William is that he's supposed to be pretty much Jamie's clone, so in that scene when Jamie went to Simon's death bed, William was actually in the tent, bent over the dying general and Jamie didn't see him at first among all the redcoats. Then someone called "Lt. Ellesmere" out and Jamie knew to keep his face bowed. It was dark enough that no one entirely figured it out, but after Jamie handed the hat to William, someone did make an offhand comment about how the general's cousin looked more like William than the general, so Jamie and Claire rushed out of there as fast as they could. But it is a sad irony that all these efforts were made to have the General Fraser's cousin by his side when he died. No one knew that he already HAD a cousin by his side.
Going back and watching the half-season over and over, I realized that William and Jamie are never in the same frame. Any scene that has both of them in it has the camera switching back and forth. The one exception is the camera angle while William is telling his superior officer that a "rebel whoreson shot it off my head." Jamie is looking over at William from several feet away. The chasm between them is just heartbreaking.
Also, I'm not sure if I mentioned, but the scar on William's arm that Rachel described as a star is actually the shape of a caltrop. It's the image on the cover of book 7. A caltrop is kind of like a jack, only it has 4 tines instead of 3, and the way it's designed, when you through it, it always lands with 3 tines on the ground, with the fourth up. It's a symbolism for how despite all the efforts made to keep William away from the truth of his parentage, fate keeps throwing him into the path of his unknown family. First his half-sister Brianna, then his cousin Ian, then a more distant cousin General Simon Fraser, then his step-mother Claire, and finally, his father Jamie. I don't think it's a spoiler to tell you that this keeps happening.

I've been listening to the audio books. I've hit the weird spot where I have no idea what is going to happen because everything in the show has already happened. It's actually kinda neat to see the photos of the 2nd half of the season and knowing the context for them. The books have their problems...but I'm happy I'm hearing the original story. you should totally dive into those while you wait for the last 1.5 seasons.
