I like some of the new ideas here -- adding notes to read transforms it into a pseudo-immersive sim in theory but who knows how well written they are. I always loved the HL1 manual letters/notes that expanded things a bit. The new areas are somewhat hit or miss. Why shift the "pick up that can" moment down to the other side of the hall? I guess JUST to be different? It just seems unnecessary. I like some of the new courtyards... but why omit the exciting rooftop chase? I assume it's because the geometry was entirely changed to squeeze in the new courtyards/areas but that's silly -- don't add them if it's going to cut one of the more exciting sections of the "walking simulator" portion of HL2. I also like things the original Cinematic Mod did like having extra open windows with citizens peeking out on the way to the apartment building. I wish there was a more vanilla-style mod that expands the levels a bit without throwing in the terrible character models or whatever else.
I like the map changes, adds some variety to the game while mostly keeping the origional layout generally the same... The Combine enemy models are also good, the Riot-geared Metrocops make a lot more sense than their original models... The use of cut enemies also adds some variety to the game as well...though the model for the hound-eye could definitely be improved...the reflectiveness of the model has some purple in it that almost looks like the pink & black checkerboard error texture is appearing in it. The Combine Scanner/camera drone doesn't look good using its beta model...it looks more like it should be a combat drone...not a surveillance drone... The weapon models are also good quality, with much better animations than the ones Valve made...ESPECIALLY the pistol and SMG...the original animations fpr those were honestly lazy as all hell...However...the crossbow... the fact that its like a cross between the HL2 crossbow and the Black Mesa crossbow...it looks good...don't get me wrong...just that the Black Mesa Crossbow style doesn't work with HL2's Rebar crossbow bolts very well...the replacement for the pulse rifle though...the use of a G3 makes no sense...its a bullet firing weapon that...in this mod...fires pulse rounds and launches energy orbs from its M203 grenade launcher...it also uses AR2 ammo pickups rather than G3 magazines...it really doesn't fit as a replacement for the Combine's High Tech Dark Energy AR2 pulse rifle... The use of models from Stalker isn't necessarily a bad thing as most of those models "seem" to be avalible for public use...as I've seen them used in Killing Floor custom maps and GMod maps and model packs, among other things... ....the Character model changes....ugggg, where do I even start with those...firstly, most of them are eyeball-disease inducing...Alex, along with most of the female rebals and citizens look like hookers or sluts...Mossman looks like a druggy...a number of the male citizens look like beatniks or homeless people...Kliner looks....totally wrong...Barney looks like some male model...or action movie male lead...the Vortigaunts, are using that stupidly popular "wrinkley" looking model...and Breen looks like the Institute's "Father" from Fallout 4...all in all...JUST MAKE HI-DEF VERSIONS OF THE CHARACTER MODELS....CAUSE WHAT YOU HAVE ARE NOT "REALISTIC" IN THE SLIGHTEST...

This mod still looks horrendous after all the years and different version. I liked the 'lighter' versions better without the clunky, mediocre character models and the jigglebone boobs on everything.
Some enemies don't fit though. The mortars would make sense near the end of the game and the player would never have run into a combine soldier to know what a zombine is. Zombine's represent the loss of control on the combine side as they risk more and more men to retake control so seeing one in the canals makes no sense.
I really like the new Civil Protection skins, would look good as a sniper skin in another game if using a baseball cap and face paint instead of the mask as well as many other skins with slight tweeks. All in all, a good military style base
While the maps are prettier overall, I can't help but question a lot of the design chases. Like the can cop and how the alleyway where the citizens were being arrested closed into a dead-end, rather than showing us the Strider passing by. I can't see how those such changes could be considered improvements in any regard.

the "feminist combine forces on a high heels" is canon models taken straight from the game's cut contnet. those are combine assassins. albeit they do look un-fitting and I guess that's why valve cut it out from the original game.
Zerephai believe it or not thats actually an enemy who was cut from HL2 calked the Combine Assassin...they had those long fall heel springs but had dual pistols rather than an MP5 SMG...
Now if only this Awakening Cinematic Mod offshoot can get a similar treatment to how ZMA redesigned Cinematic Mod to be less infamous with "Fakefactory Remastered".
the level redesign and visual overhaul don't look bad, the only thing that's bad is the models. i appreciate that the mod is trying to put it's own spin on half life 2 but seriously fix your fucking models first.

He/she confessed before that he/she doesn't like how original HL2 lore is setup by Valve, so we get what we can expect from a person with some bizzare taste in level design. I mean, I wouldn't say that FakeFactory's original level design decisions were totally awesome. Like the large apartment buildings on the background of the "Victory Mine" area at the deep forest/mountain area in Ep2 for example. Or a crap ton of scaffoldings and bridges all over the place just to make the maps look more massive.
DeepSnow least favorite thing: Jam packing the corridors with props that block the fluidity of movement. I don't understand what there's not to like about the way the lore is unraveled. It's show don't tell, the best form of storytelling. I hate having stories spoon fed to me.

god what is this. they cluttered up almost every aspect of the levels, changing the looks of them so much the maps are confusing and samey, turned metrocops into tactical swat guy number 1958159, redid the puzzles by making them less intuitive and fun, added combine assassins and zombines where the lore wouldnt allow them, added beta enemies that arent fun to fight, fucked up all of the weapons and models, made the textures for everything worse, fucked up the hud colors ( impressive ), removed all of the well placed enemies, added in enemies in random spots, fucked the pacing up, added porn graffiti, gave you the annabelle before you even go near ravenholm, added lens flare and extremely intense bloom, how many of these could i list???

This isn't the original Cinematic Mod, it's a fan mod that uses Cinematic Mod as a base. Looks way worse.

I like the exploration aspect of the mod. Add in a bit more detail and clean up bits and pieces and it's the realistic remade version of half life.
