    Did something similar on my Grinnall TR7 V8 this afternoon. It already had electronic ignition- a GM HEI four pin module in a Lucas remote box with the coil bolted on top. I used a Flame-Thrower 3 multi spark module with rev limiter thoughtfully preset to the Rover V8 red line of 5,500rpm and the Flame-Thrower 3 0.32ohm/ 45,000v coil.

    Hi Richard I put an ignitor unit in my 2 door about 15yrs ago and haven't need to touch it, the engine pulls great, even better with the 3.9 EFI engine now fitted. Its almost sad to see the end of Bob videos, been quite a journey.

      Thank you for the feedback, I miss Bob too. There will be a finish up vid of the odds and sods + a question and answer session. I the meantime plenty more to come on other projects

    Interesting stuff, it does sound sweet I have to say. A word of warning for anyone thinking of doing this on the cheap. I put a cheapo version of the ignition module in the Stag and after a year or so it became a pain to start hot. I blamed fuel vapourising for a long time, but when it still did it even worse after the resto I got hacked off and shoved the points back in, starts on a quick flick every time now. I’ve just left them, maintaining them is no issue given the mileage I do in it.

      I also went down the cheap module route on my stag, the stag v8 distributor is located at the back of the engine and in quite a hostile environment, it is my understanding that the cheapo module failed because of the heat.

    Informative and fun as usual! I’m looking forward to seeing the last episode of Bob but sad as well, it’s been a great journey from that bobtailed semi wreck you pulled out of the barn in Devon a long while back. I haven’t missed an episode. More of the same please Richard! 😊👍🏼

    Hi Bob, very good job, you are a master, learn a lot and now I need to do exactly the same to my ROVER , would you please send me exactly the parts numbers of that distributor kit from Pertronix, I can not find it here in the USA, try to get it from the video but no luck, thanks Ron

      @churchhouseclassics  2 года назад

      I replied to your email, the parts I bought from distributor doctor for this Lucas 35d8 distributor was "LU181A" Pertronix and the coil was "40111" 1.5ohm resin black flamethrower.
      You need to be sure that your distributor has correct mechanical advance to be able to make the most of the pertronix system

    Hi Richard, when putting in electronic ignition does the dwell become irrelevant?

    • @churchhouseclassics
      @churchhouseclassics  2 года назад

      I set the ignition timing to the sweet spot. There are no points so setting the dwell becomes tricky. Bear in mind that TDC mark on the crank pulley is not always guaranteed. Hence my "sweet spot" comment

    Question is can you install a GM hei distributor on the Rover v8 ?? The Buick 350 distributor is said to fit the old Buick 3.5 V8..but would it fit the Rover..

    • @churchhouseclassics
      @churchhouseclassics  Год назад

      Even if it did fit, would the mechanical and vacuum advance units suit the engine that you are fitting it to?
