Excellent breakdown of the display. Regarding the note 20 ultra, since you don't need high refresh rate when watching content, you can create a Bixby routine to auto switch the resolution and refresh rate when opening certain apps. I have all streaming apps open to qhd. Once I close it, switches back to 1080p/adaptive refresh rate. Still would be nice to not have to do that.
@sbcontt YT go to settings>advanced features>Bixby routines>hit the plus icon to create a new routine>set the if condition to 'app opened' and select the apps you want>hit next> set the then condition to motion smoothness and resolution> choose what you want> hit done. Make sure your battery performance is set to no higher than optimized. You'll notice a brief stutter when it changes, but it's fine afterward.
I love this thorough breakdown on the screen tech. I've really been loving y Z Fold 2. I'm still on the fence about taking off the pre-installed screen protector. I only notice it when I'm outside. Great video.
I have gotten used to the main display (outer display) and used it most of the time as a standard Candybar, switching to the secondary display for the "tablet" experience when consuming media that would benefit from a larger display. My desire is a phone that magically transforms into a tablet, and since I can't have a Duo (not available in the UK) and a Huawei Mate XS, I have to make this work for me. So far so good, one just has to reorder expectations and adapt into a suitable workflow. The "good lock" app is so absolutely useful, it has made a big difference in navigation and general use of the device. It's a fascinating experience and a great time in technology to live in. Look at what they achieved in a year since Fold 1, I fully look forward to what comes in the next few years. Nice display review. Thanks.
I'm pretty much sold on this thing, but the price is so ridiculous. $1,000 would be an instant buy for me. I'd have a really big problem paying $1500 for it. But $2,000? That's just ludicrous.
It's still only generation 2 of the cutting edge of mobile technology and the price reflects that. Foldables will become more mainstream and better as time goes by. Using this phone over the last month, I definitely think this form factor is the future.
If you’re a Samsung user, just go through the upgrade finance program where you pay for half the price of the phone over 20 months and then send it back to be credited the remaining 1000 and you upgrade to the newest phone. That’s if you’re a good phone user and don’t throw it around like it’s your wallet

I'm loving my Fold2, but having trouble with getting a cases that will bring this device into feeling as a practical and durable EDC... The Spigen Tough Armor Case looks like the case that will suit my expectations, but the delivery projection date, is as soon as early December. Today, Samsung's Amid case arrived from Verizon. The Amid case does fit well, has a kickstand and does give the back of the phone a fair amount of traction.The case is very thin and is only one piece, leaving out projection for the front of the Fold2. The projection from this case is minimal at best and more is about the kickstand and back cover scratch projection. All well, it's something for now! This device naked does challenge confidence when handling and unfolding, but boy oh boy, when I do get it securely unfolded, the beauty of that tablet screen has me feeling good about my efforts and the purchase of this device. Erica, thank you for evaluating the screen on the Fold2 and reporting the technical aspects of the factory screen protector. I have high regards, for your experience, knowledge and tips.
I had a fold 2 but sold it because of the hole punch and the lack of optimized apps. I hated not being able to use true full screen and having the black or white side bar in landscape mode... which was the best way to hold the phone with the back half only cases.
Miss, Ms. Griffen Who are you? Your awesome in giving tech info on a gadget. Before this Huawei US /China snafu I bought a Mate 20X because nobody had a candy bar 7.2 inch screen phone. I like a big screen phones. Let me be clear I like the Z fold 2 but not the steep price tag. On the flip side Huawei was suppose to come out with a open fold hinge phone the Mate X2. I want that phone how ever Google service would probably not be on it that and I'm so sad about. I'll keep using my Mate 20X. I have been impressed with the UI, battery life, clarity, build quality and quick response updates. Thanks for the Z fold 2 insight.
I am DEFINITELY GOING TO GET THIS WHEN THE PRICE DROPS. It came out for $2000, and after several months it is selling for a little over $1000USD, so once the Galaxy Fold 3 comes out this one should drop down in price. I figure I will pick this up when it gets to $600. As for now I am rocking my Mate 20X which remains a BEAST of a phone, but I think it is time to upgrade as it's been 2.5-3 years and it has Burn In Screen in it. So I think I will get the Xiaomi Mi 11 in a few weeks and then wait for this one. Anyways please look forward to a Long Term review of the Mate 20X, and as well as an unboxing of the Xiaomi Mi 11. 17:28 Look at how much visibility gets sacrificed in the game because of the 5:4 aspect ratio when she opens the Z Fold 2. You see way more of the game world on the outer smaller display thanks to the wider aspect ratio. Samsung needs to hurry up and make a Bi-Fold that has a wider aspect ratio on the inner foldable display.

The one thing that puts me off this phone is the centre fold, in every review I have seen its very noticable, does it effect the persormance or the way you use the phone at all? Also, where do you get you're wallpapers from? they always look great. Thanks
The reason it locks to 120hz at lower brightness is the same reason the Pixel 4 locked to 60hz at lower brightness. Its much harder to get a consistent gamma curve between the different refresh rates at lower brightness. If they had variable refresh at lower brightness you'd notice subtle differences in colour tones when the display switched between the different refresh rates.
That's just odd to tie ambient brightness to this control. Sitting in a normal room the panel is quite bright and still locked to 120hz. This is something I wish I could internally ask Samsung about.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on this beautiful foldable, the only thing I'm worried about is that I use my device the most for watching movies, youtube and twitch. That black bars kinda bother me. The other thing is about the durability of the screen cause I think it will eventually brake after some years of folds. Please help me decide beetween this and Oppo Find X2 pro. hello. I removed the inner screen protector, and I love the feel of it. and the quality of the screen is amazing. I also have the note 20 ultra, and the screens look both amazing. almost same quality. but on fold is brighter! however I am very worried about dust scratches .... could dust particles, scratch the screen? I know its not glass.... however I love it the way it is. hope someone can increase my confidence....
Hey this could be an obvious question, but is this phone widely available at phone provider stores? Or is there a limited amount of them that are sold out? Sorry just really want to get one, but didnt know the current predicament on there availability.
I actually wish Samsung would have made the single plastic display two screens of normal glass and kept the seam as small and thin as possible. I would think it easier to engineer an almost seamless display than a glass screen that bends. Two screens may also be easier for developers to leverage for multitasking.
I just don’t find it all that useful. Is only good for pairs you use all the time or you will have a million pairs. It’s easier to just select apps on the fly.
How is multitasking on Samsung phones not intuitive? Them the recent menu you drag an app out somewhere and use it. To switch apps you go to your recent menu like a normal person. And then from there you can hit the little good button and open up any available app. It is intuitive you just have to actually use the features of the phone
Thank you, very informative video!! My wish list for Galaxy Fold 3: S-Pen support Slightly larger outside and inside screen (7.9" would be perfect) EXACT same cameras/sensors as the Note 20 Ultra. (why they didn't put them on the Fold 2 is a head scratcher, considering the price) Better optimization for popular apps like Instagram, Twitter, etc... About 25% lighter would really be nice. I DON'T mind the thickness, but the extra weight does mKe it burdensome to walk with in the pants pocket. Get rid of that silly camera hole punch on the inside screen! Totally unnecessary If Samsung does all of that, I'm definitely interested in the next generation Fold.
Do You also have a plasticy Sound and cracklin when opening the fold? It seems to come out of the hinge. I also have the Sound when pressing on the hinge when closed
I managed to adjust the white balance of my Note 20 ultra under natural mode by going into settings, accessibility, visibility enhancement, color adjustment, personalised color. I carefully choose the colors in sequence and the end result makes the white balance less yellowy/greenish it is now exacty same as the white balance on vivid mode(default) with the saturation of natural mode. worth a try but to me colors still look washed out compared to iphone 11 pro max and note 10 plus in natural mode.
I will have to measure to see what personal color actually does, as I know it's meant for those who have colorblindness. Looking at it though, it doesn't looked washed out.
Personalized setting just increased the vibrancy of the colors when looking at the reference image. I will look into it for the review. Thanks for the pointer.

400-ish PPI would've been OK if they had full RGB set of subpixels, like LCD.

How is multitasking on Samsung phones not intuitive? Them the recent menu you drag an app out somewhere and use it. To switch apps you go to your recent menu like a normal person. And then from there you can hit the little good button and open up any available app.
It is intuitive you just have to actually use the features of the phone

S-Pen support
Slightly larger outside and inside screen (7.9" would be perfect)
EXACT same cameras/sensors as the Note 20 Ultra. (why they didn't put them on the Fold 2 is a head scratcher, considering the price)
Better optimization for popular apps like Instagram, Twitter, etc...
About 25% lighter would really be nice. I DON'T mind the thickness, but the extra weight does mKe it burdensome to walk with in the pants pocket.
Get rid of that silly camera hole punch on the inside screen! Totally unnecessary
If Samsung does all of that, I'm definitely interested in the next generation Fold.

I have experienced some problems with good lock modules and youtube premium pip mode. When I use task changer the pip mode won't work

I also have the Sound when pressing on the hinge when closed

I managed to adjust the white balance of my Note 20 ultra under natural mode by going into settings, accessibility, visibility enhancement, color adjustment, personalised color. I carefully choose the colors in sequence and the end result makes the white balance less yellowy/greenish it is now exacty same as the white balance on vivid mode(default) with the saturation of natural mode. worth a try but to me colors still look washed out compared to iphone 11 pro max and note 10 plus in natural mode.
I will have to measure to see what personal color actually does, as I know it's meant for those who have colorblindness. Looking at it though, it doesn't looked washed out.
Personalized setting just increased the vibrancy of the colors when looking at the reference image. I will look into it for the review. Thanks for the pointer.
thanks... looking forward on your note 20 ultra review. for now I am keeping mine at this personlised color as to me it ia better than the default white balance on natural mode.
