I commend his transparency. I learned through therapy that anxiety is the fight-flight-or-freeze survival response hijacked by conditioned thoughts from childhood traumas, neglect, and fears. Mindfulness meditation also helped me detach from anxiety symptoms and see that I'm really ok in the present moment; books like "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels were a big help.

Fair play for sharing your story and your experience. It's oddly comforting as a young woman to know that even grown men get overwhelmed and experience anxiety, panic attacks etc. I say that in the most sincere way possible. Thanks for opening up.

I always gravitate towards anyone suffering with anxiety because I had years of it after post natal depression turned into clinical depression with anxiety/panic disorder. It was 1981 and I had never heard of anxiety or how devastating or prolonged it could be. Thankfully it's been about 15 years since I had any episodes, I did learn that not fuelling the initial horrible feelings would stop the escalation, I still have odd bouts of weird heartbeats but these days I let them come and go where before I would immediately think I was going to die. I had some weird symptoms I've never heard of others having and still can't explain them today or know what they were. Denise Welch's book The Unwelcome Visitor is a good read and almost mimics my experience except she still managed to go on stage and somehow get through some of it whereas I know I wouldn't have been able to. As Simon says the connection between the brain and the body is something you cannot fathom, you think it's all physical but it isn't. When I was first diagnosed I went straight to the library, PND wasn't really featured in my having a baby book so I was relieved to see some of my symptoms in black and white and it made me feel less alone. I guess time is always a healer, I found a couple of good antidepressants which kept me stable, the anxiety was a harder nut to crack. I tried supplements, going without tea/coffee for a year, got badly addicted to Xanax and wouldn't go anywhere without it. My life was curtailed for years, there was always that what if playing in my head which stopped me socialising. Eventually on a whim I bought a ticket to see Ben Elton then I worried for weeks about whether I would be able to go, I did and was so proud of myself. It was a small step but since then I've been to many concerts, travelled o/seas and restarted my life again. I don't think too much about it today, any nerves I have are normal nerves which come and go but I have a lot of empathy for those going through it and like to help where I can, give people hope that they can come out of the other side. I probably left my strange thoughts and feelings after the birth for too long, if I had been given a check list I would have ticked everything but I was scared to speak out because what I was feeling and thinking was so irrational that I tried to put a brave face on them which led to the first big panic attack after 6 months, then of course it manifests itself into when is the next one coming and so it goes on. I'm glad it's a much more common topic today and I urge anyone dealing with feelings, thoughts and physical symtoms that scare them to speak out, get on top of them early before they really get a hold. Glad Simon is doing so much better and hopefully will make a doco to raise awareness

If Coronation Streets Simon Gregson is strugglerling with the eatting disorder Anxiety he can talk to a trained doctor and health advisor who spieciaslist in this field and gradeually put them on diet and when in hospital can get the right treatment to help them get better. Then once better can return home to his family. My friends daughter sees cases like Simons all the time. She is a doctor in her local hospital. She and her family live in Hull East Yorkshire. Even though Simon kept it quiet for all these years. I guess he didn`t want the press and the newspapers printting it and spreading across either. Also keep it private too. Only right really at the end of the day. Hope this comment helps other people that are going though this like Simon is right now. Good luck to Simon and hope he gets better very soon. From Valerie in Oban Argyll Scotland. UK.

@@suerandle6637 I had moments where I felt dizzy and weak and for a long time the doctors couldnt pinpoint what it was (I got dry elbows and attacks of thirst). Then I went to a routine checkup at my Gyn. and they found there was too much sugar in my blood and sent me to the house doctor...Anxious people are usually more prone to Diabetes because they shove carbs and sugars into their bodies as its a quick source for energy but usually it causes the weakness in the longrun, its not just anxiety (although in some cases it can of course be a genetic predisposition). Not to fat shame or anything but he also looks like he weighs a bit more...so he could but doesnt have to, also have diabetes
