Thanks for such a great review as always, Josh! The AF test of 3:11 doesn't look like a big issue for me haha Anyway, I think it's fantastic that L-mount has started to expand the lineup of lenses with good AF, thanks to SIGMA :)
Thank you Josh. One day, you should have your brother do your talking head presentation in your videos just to test whether we notice it's him instead of you.
I like 20mm for static shots but once you start panning the camera in video mode the warping of space can be a bit unsettling. 24mm is better for moving camera shots.
I love my Panasonic 24mm f/1.8. The auto focus works great for the type of videos that I make with it. I've never used it for stills. I think these sigma lenses are a better fit for stills shooters who want the extra f-stop and the sharpness of a sigma art lens. It's nice to have options.
It's kind of weird. I know of a lot of people who LOVE their sigma lenses for their sharpness, but for me, they look a bit TOO sharp. Then again, they shoot primarily stills, not video.
Ummm, it all depends on how much you use your current 24mm. If you feel like it's something you would get a lot of use from then for sure. The DG DN is definitely more refined and has a lot of really nice features, but then again Sigma lenses have always been optically superb so I'm not sure how much of an actual difference visually it'd make
@@JoshCameron When I decided to go all in on Lumix (especially the L mount system) I decided to go for quality over convenience (because of Video AF on sigma lenses). So not the best decision for me perhaps, thanks for the reply. really enjoy your videos.
Well so far, no. the 14-24 from Sigma is good but it has its drawbacks and I do actually prefer the 16-35. But of course, there's the release of the 18mm 1.8 looming at the moment... I'm not too sure when, but that could be a great option!
Cheers mate - and i'm not too sure tbh. It seems like Sigma do a great job of covering all bases so I definitely wouldn't put it past them to make a 70-200 2.8 for the L-Mount. It just depends on how much of a market they see for it :)
great review! what are your thoughts on the Sigma 24-70mm EF with an adapter on the Lumix S5? the OS on the lens seems like it would be pretty great with the IBIS on the S5
As long as you're not hoping to use autofocus then I definitely can't see any issues with that setup. Of course, adapted glass always has worse AF performance, so that's why I'd recommend native if you were ever hoping to use AF. But otherwise I think that would make for a really good setup :)
I have two questions regarding your AF usage : did you change anything in the settings like increasing the speed of the AF ? And what AF Mode did you use while you filmed the "studio" exemple in which you get closer and then move away from the lens ? Were you using the Area+ Mode or the standard Human/Animal detection AF ? The video was great BTW !!
Hey Alexandre, so the Af settings I always use for my S5 are as follows: AF Speed -1, and AF Sensitivity -3. I didn't change the settings in this video at all. I always tend to use Human Detect AF too for talking shots since from my testing, that seems to work best for me :) Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
How disappointing again that they can’t figure out the video AF performance vs. Panasonics own. Such beautifully constructed lenses and the Aperture rings, coming from Fuji before.
I'm hoping they figure out something soon, but I think everyone is expecting much more from AF nowadays, so to be honest I think it's the entire L-Mount system that needs to catch up to what everyone wants to see
@@JoshCameron agreed. This has always been the issue with Panasonic when I was working with the Lumix team 10yr ago and it would come out of Japan being stubborn even when they were miles ahead of everyone on the mirrorless market share then. To be honest though, when it comes to Photos I’ve had more keepers with Panasonic than Fuji for sports. XT4 was always 50/50 hit and miss on the 50-140. S5 / S1 is more like 90/10 hit rate, but I’m not a sports specific photographer 🤷♂️
I would actually disagree. I use the Panasonic 24mm 1.8 all the time in AF mode on the S5 when I'm filming my talking shots, and occasionally for B-Roll too. Also, the Panasonic 16-35 has very good AF too. I use that all the time with AF :)
The AF transition looks natural as you moved forward and back. A little slow but looked like a manual pull.
I was secretly getting someone to pull focus behind the camera ;) lol just kidding!
Where the wider lenses would work best it would be if you are using the S fives and need to record in 60 frames per second and it is going to crop in

Hi Josh, have you tried the autofocus with these lenses on the new S5 II? Trying to decide between the sigma 24 and the Panasonic 24. Thanks
Great video bro! May I know the color profile you shot in for the B-roll in the woods?
Yeah of course! I shot in V-Log :)
Great video, and great points for us pro video shooters!
Cheers Shawn, thanks for watching :)

how does af works with sigma 24 1.4 on lumix s5? I mean for video is sucks anyway, but is it good for photo as well as lumix lenses, also with afc ?
I’d be curious to see a review of the sigma 24 1.4 with the s5 II. Would it have the same AF lag?
Great video. One question Josh, with the last Lumix S5 II firmware update, has the autofocus improved for this lenses? Thanks in advance

Hahaha! Yes definitely, let's see if he'd be up for it!
Great review bud. Thanks
Cheers mate!
Awesome review mate!!!!!! However I cannot find the sigma 20mm f1.4 for my lumix anywhere here in the USA
Ah that's annoying! Have you checked B&H or Adorama?
Nice video!
Im thinking about the sigma 18-50 for the wider shots but this 20mm could be an option....
I like 20mm for static shots but once you start panning the camera in video mode the warping of space can be a bit unsettling. 24mm is better for moving camera shots.
24mm to me feels a little more like home :)
I needed this video, would you recommend the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 vs the Lumix S 24mm f/1.8?
I consider the same choice actually. Did you check sigma? how's af in photo?

really great content! I would like to know what is your Af settings, I struggle a lot with my s5 for interviews. Thank you!!
My AF Settings are:
AF Speed -1
AF Sensitivity -3
and I use Human Detect AF mode :)
thanks for the vid man!super informative
Thanks for watching :)
Would you recommend upgrading from the last sigma 24mm 1.4L?

how will this be with Panasonic S9 ? Too big ?
Thanks for the review Josh, If you are looking for an ultra wide L mount lens is there anything better than the Panasonic 16-35?

Wasn't Panasonic supposed to release a prime below the 24mm? Still haven't heard anything more from them.
I'm anticipating that release too - the 18mm 1.8 I believe. It should be on the way!
Great review, as always Josh. Do you think there will be an L-Mount 70-200 f2.8 release by Sigma??
Cheers mate - and i'm not too sure tbh. It seems like Sigma do a great job of covering all bases so I definitely wouldn't put it past them to make a 70-200 2.8 for the L-Mount. It just depends on how much of a market they see for it :)

For the Algo!
Sigma isn't weather sealed??
are these lenses compatible with g7?
No... They do make 3 primes for m43 mount only
They should have made the 20mm a 18mm IMO. Like you said 20 is just to close to 24. Its an awkward focal range.
Or even a 24mm and an 18 - just to keep the difference further from each other!
@@JoshCameron yes, that's what I was tring to say!

All the L mount lenses AF aren't good not just Sigma.
