Pros : more power, more efficient
Cons : V8 discontinued
Cons : more power, more money to fix this things when it breaks*
less reliable
Less efficient, less reliable, attract more ignorant dumbheads, takes ton to repair it, no outback driving anymore, buy new set of wheels, just because Toyota wants you to, watch oil level as it was sucking oil for 2016 diesel models, now petrol will be too. This won't be my next lc defo.
@@benkhmelev9692 Can't agree
The 2JZ engine in Supra was also a twin-turbo but very reliable and capable of producing 1000hp
@@ayushk4099 lmao they dont make things like they used too, like a 300hp engine wayyyy overbuilt. no way they do things like that
One of the reason Toyota has taken this long for the new model is they research and test the crap out of it so it will be another legend and I am sure it will be.
Hahaha will be rubbish - don't watch cartoons by Toyota it all going downhill
@Audi8 he ain’t got no life that’s why lol
@@dxtnguyxn4179 hahaha cause i have 200 and you're "positive till glands" ouch Toyota wants "positive" buyers who are ready to buy rubbish - go on guys - nothing significant changed over last generation - if you'd be more in depth research or moreover would've been an owners you said that indeed nothing of major changes done. This is a very powerful engine and very cool. But I am going to miss the 5.7.

That was a Legendary
5.7 was the most reliable and durable engine ever had made
@@sarahnewyork702 Until it leaks from the head. Not a dealbreaker but a difficult repair.
Probably not since this new V6 will be way more fuel efficient with more torque.

the great TNGA platform. thank you for the dynamic effort toyota. now i am inspired to be a great like your engineering
Looks like a Ford 3.5 eco boost I heard about 10 years ago Toyota had about 10 eco boost motors they were studying. I guess they were telling us the truth
Embrace the new technology. Cant wait.
Muy buena la información, esperamos en Centro América, llegue pronto
It's about time they came to the turbo truck and SUV game
Would be nice if it had 5.7l twin turbo
What about steep descent angles? How does it lubricate the crank and parts well?
That old 5.7 was a tank. It reached 1,000,000 miles.
Actually it was the 4.7 that did that twice.
Thanks Great Video
TOYOTA before: Reliability!
TOYOTA now : V6 Turbo. 😑
Ford started using tt V6 engines and they are way faster, smoother and more powerful. It is reliable good as well

It's a nice engine...but I bet this new engine will never have the durability, stability and lifespan of previous eight-cylinder 5.7 engines.
A tragic story to end a legend!
RIP 5.7😐😥😓👋
Nope, I don't think Toyota would throw away the main selling point of LCs which is the legendary reliability, I'm sure they also overengineer these V6 engines to match the V8's reliability.
@@default2591 thanks for your comment. I hope Toyota does that.
You're correct, won't last even 150k km as diesels are toast at 200k. So how would some idiots here expect same from hot turbocharged petrol engine. Fokin EGR valve, you know what ppl do over here, they just shut it off this stupid piece of technology, cause figure out, exhaust gases just being put into cylinders again and again, and bringing in all the dirt and soot from exhaust back, gosh. Shut it off otherwise engine will die in 70-100k. Now think about this to be equipped with turbocharger, which is going to be clogged too. Would be better to sit one greenie upon each one built in. So they would blow up into pieces. Damn eco activists.

In Russia we say “more simpler, more better” this engine is too complicated for idiotic eco-standards, yes new motor is powerful, efficient and another, but we don’t know how this engine feel in bad weather like in Siberia in winter where the temperature is -45 Celsius and less, for example. You guys don’t know how much every single car cost in Russia, while in USA this car will cost 60 000$_75 000$, meanwhile in Russia this car cost more than 85 000$. @@NikolozKobakhidze1402 I perfectly know :) That's why in Africa they sell old diesels , more reliable and way easier to repair.
That's why they sell the 4.0 also

for the bigger vehicles, ie: sequoia, tundra, landcruiser, i think an updated v8 woulda been prime, or even a diesel offering. a twin turbo v6 would sit at home in the tacoma and 4runner for sure.
I own a Tacoma and that TTV6 would be overkill lol
@@cubanamerican22: dude. the taco would only benefit from having all the extra horses. i have a taco myself and when hauling my quads around you can tell that it craves the extra power. im ovtuned, but gonna go the blown route via magnuson to get that extra torque.
The twin turbo V6 is a much more powerful engine than the NA V8 as the torque is immensely higher at lower rpm. Efficiency is also improved and you can expect better mpg.
The downside is the reliability will be lower but it is a small factor as Toyota engines are generally reliable including the turbo charged ones
Ooh 16 years later new engine! New? Turbo?? Lets see how reliable will be
It’s actually not new they use this engine in current Lexus Models
Toyota never fails.

This will never replace the V8 engine. This car is huge, I highly doubt this new engine will suffice. Mine is V8 4.6 Lit. Is the perfect spot, neither small current V6, nor too big V8 5.7.
It's twin turbo charged. More power and more torque. It will be better
@@adilmalik3458 more power and more torque , even a 4 banger can do it , but does it have a wider power band like V8 engines ? The motive of using a v8 is not always more power and torque but a uniform power delivery ! Even a fortuner 2.8 churns out 210ps and 500nm of torque while the 1vdftv v8 diesel for the the land cruiser 70 has been makes only 210ps and 420nm all the way from 210ps and 650nm which the twin turbo version made ! But why does the land cruiser 70 is not using the fortuner 2.8 4 cylinder engine when it makes more torque ?
The power curve is bigger then the v8. Has a 10 speed box tho so dont I get it
"FUEL EFFICIENT" ✌️🤞
The 82 280z turbo was the first turbocharged car I drove. This was in 1989. I’ve been in love with turbos sense. I have a F150 2.7 now. I will be buying a Tundra next year.
????? How did you go from the 2.7 Ford to the tundra
@@anpham8107 They are both v6 turbo.
You do realize Ford Ecoboost has proven itself while Tundra is still fresh to the game. Plus Ford is superior to Toyota in every other aspects
@@anpham8107 Guess you don't know the 3.5 Toyota boosted v6 has been out a few years before the new Tundra.
@@blackericdenice I understand, but the 2.7 is a freaking quick engine plus it have a close deck compacted iron graphite upper portion of the engine block which is freaking rock solid. The only truck worth replacing your truck is the dodge 5.7 hemi or Chevy 2.7 i4 . However the Chevy 2.7 has not proving itself.
The old ones keep increasing in value lol
And probably will continue to
Because they have V8s.
Glad to see Toyota encouraging stop light racing...
The cooling fan feature where it only starts spinning at higher temperatures has been in my bmw e39 for 20 years now.
Yer I was thinking the same, every water cooled bike as well. Two of them even
достойно!!!
Very best toyota world
The cooling fan is engine crank driven!
This indicates that the normal electric fan isn't powerful enough to cool the engine and the engine is designed to expel a lot of heat to the radiators rather than straight out to the exhaust.
All of these to pass emission regulations.
Crank driving the fan directly is probably more efficient than pushing that same energy from the crank trough the alternator, electronic circuitry and then electric motor. Sure you can get powerful enough electric fan to cool it, but it doesn't make sense to circulate the power trough the electrical system.
@@wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 A benefit of electric fans are that they can be set to continue to run after the car engine has stopped to cool the engine and under bonnet temps.
@@littlejohn-pi7kk Yes, that's a good point. It's always a compromise.

No way this is as reliable as the previous naturally aspirated engine…
I respectfully disagree. If done right turbo engines are very reliable.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q A turbocharger adds a lot more stress to the engine which will inevitably affect it’s longevity. That’s just a fact.
@@stevienguyen2047 Not if you over engineer the engine as I'm sure Toyota will have done. Doubt they want to ruin their reputation of reliability.

Rip v8 normally I would freak out if other manufactures downsize and use turbochargers bcuz it’s less reliable but I ain’t trippin about Toyota. However that front end, someone’s gonna get fired lol
It’s better for economy, but it has two turbos which lower engine reliability and legendary toyota long lastingness. If they did an n/a 3.7 that would be a much better all around engine.
Yeah most ugly car I have ever seen….due to this front end
@@nevids2086 Toyota definitely doesn't want it's selling point which is the reliability to be gone by creating a less reliable engine, I'm sure they still overengineer the current V6 to be atleast as reliable as the old V8.
@@Lordoftheflatbush objectively
If it's well designed, there won't be a problem. Turbo's in diesels have been standard for 30 years, and they are not particularly unreliable. Most of them outlive NA gasoline engines.
I want this but not coming to Canada ,So sad. I wish Toyota put this engine on SEQUOIA.
If it has Cooling Fan, then it might add also a front nose wind blocking shudders, so that in extreme cold weather it could block frontal wind as Honda did with its few vehicles.
Every extra degree of complexity like that makes the reliability worse. Just put a manual block in the front in the winter. Though I doubt it's necessary in a gasoline engine.
I wonder how these will respond to tuning...
Thinking about swapping my 1985 Toyota 4Runner should I put the 5.7? Or should I consider another Toyota V8 or other Toyota engine, need more power the 22re is great but not powerful enough. I want reliable power with room to tune a bit.

Abracadabra ! This is the markx v6 engine that was discontinued in markx in December 2019 in action. Same engine, bigger capacity better performance. Anyone with a markx will attest to that, the super fast Toyota luxury car that didn't sell so much now in a bigger body to replace the not so successful v8 Toyota engine that was a fuel guzzler and performed dismally .
Toyota wisdom of marrying the 4 cylinder prado engine with the 8 cylinder v8 to it's average v6 the 6 cylinder engine. Bravo Toyota. You got it right. On spot !
@ Toyota Global we want reliable engines like 5.7L.. Not this..
So now every manufacturer are going 4 cyl turbo and v6 twin turbo, knowing that those v8 can last way longer than forced inducted engines.
Ford’s Ecoboost motors last longer and are more reliable than the V8s they replaced. The current 5.0 V8 has more issues than the 3.5 TT V6 Eco.

Those twin-turbos are going to heat up very fast if the engine is pushed hard. I am worried that the turbo seals will fail and we will start seeing oil leaks and other problems soon. That's one issue we never had to deal with on the current 5.7 V8.

Turbos already blowing up
This engine ain't gonna be nowhere as durable as the V8. Twin Turbos?! come-on
True ! The reason why v8's were used was because of their reliability . Now if they use a twin turbo v6 , gone with reliability ! Already their 4l 1grfe v6 engines have a few problem with blown off head gasket , worn of oil rings ! Plus the v8 had a wider power and torque band no matter how powerful the v6 is ! The v8's had a record of lasting million miles !
Def will not last as long as the v8 one since it's overstressed.
118 hp/Litre. it is stressed compared to before but I wouldn't call it overstressed, given that there are many factory engines doing much higher
More than likely.
@@Adam_Rosenberg91 If you use the same quality of components in a higher displacement slow revving engine and a lower displacement higher revving engine the slow engine will last longer. The pistons aren't travelling as fast, covering less distance per road mile.
@@Adam_Rosenberg91 It is usually the main bearing that wears before you lose compression through ring wear. I have had spun a main bearing on two Honda engines (race bikes). Those engines were always under a lot of stress and weren't expected to have a long life.
