after my mom passed away almost a year ago, i took the last birthday card i received from her and got "love, mom" in her handwriting tattooed on my wrist.
That's so adorable! On dec 10th I got a tattoo with my mom too! It's a note my grandma, who recently passed, left to my mom when she was pregnant with me. That note survived 27 years and has so much meaning to us that it brings tears to my eyes everytime I think about it. It's written "I'm rooting for you" in our mother tongue. She also added a butterfly, my grandma's favourite thing in the world. And both of us tattooed in the same part of the arm you and your mom did! That's so cool. I feel like I understand the emotions you went through doing that. ♥

My mom’s never liked it or hinted that she wanted one of her own, so I think you’re lucky in that regard to have shared this experience with her. I do have a matching tattoo with my sister, and it symbolizes happier times in our relationship. One of the first questions people usually ask me is how much it cost. I hate having to answer that one!

Your mom talking about what it means to her was wonderful to hear. While my tattoo design does have meaning to me, the larger meaning is just that I did something brave and trusted that this was something that I wanted. I did something for myself regardless of what other people will think.

So I got past my fear and got it tattooed on my forearm and I love it so much!! Now I always have the reminder to “live and let go” of all things bad in life and things you can’t control.
Me and my mom got a tattoo together (matching, simple) and it makes it mean that much more. When my younger sister graduated and was 18, she got the same one and added to it and we got to be there with her. Something we will always share. 🥰

YES ! I don't think tattoos NEED to have a deep meaning, I think they can also just represent what we liked/cared about in a certain period of time. Tattoos are so interesting because they're like an open diary, they don't need to, can't and shouldn't all represent what we're doing or who we are in just one specific moment. (Also I think I'm currently wearing the exact same black sweater you're wearing in the chat with your mom lol)

On the anniversary of her passing my Aunt(moms younger sister) and I got trees(mom favorite thing) tattooed on our wrists. It was a neat and very bonding experience. ❤

Big cats, specifically leopards, have been my favorite since I was a kid. I’m also a Leo, so I’ve also always felt connected to them. If I were to ever get a tattoo, it would be of a big cat, either a lion or leopard.
