Could I have developed CPTSD from having a parent suffering from a severe mental health disorder from an early age such as Undiagnosed Covert NPD?
This disorder is not recognised very readily in the UK is there anyway I can get a diagnosis online someway, I cannot go through the normal routes for various complicated reasons.

This is so informative. I grew up poor within a Hispanic ghetto. My siblings and I have blonde hair, blue eyes. We were so racially abused and constantly feared for our lives. To walk to school was petrifying. My brother/ eldest sister were threatened with knives, etc. Gun shootings happened all the time and people died. It was horrible. This has effected us our whole lives. Thanks for this, it’s really helped.

This is very helpful information again.
Repeated events of traumatic events over of time can cause complex ptsd, would it still be considered c-ptsd if a person expeirenced the trauma on such a regular basis that they became very good at disassociating at the time? And had managed to completly block any memory of particularly bad events until later in life? If that makes sense.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill

      Thanks Beth!
Great question! I think the Re-experiencing of the same trauma can evolve into c-PTSD over time depending on the severity of the trauma. But c-PTSD is c-PTSD because you don't experience 1 traumatic event alone but rather multiple events that are traumatic.

Then move on to the next symptom and study that one. And bestcof all you cover everything related so i can follow one person and im not being confused by other therapist way of working, ill stick to the same amazingly accurate guidence from yourself . Its working, i feel hopful and eagar to learn more from you to help me manage and and rebuild my life dor the better.

You're welcome. 😀 This is great Beth!! Thank you for these kind comments. I'm really pleased to hear that my videos are helping guide you. I do, however, encourage my clients/patients to look at what other therapists are saying and compare. Sometimes this is a good way to be objective and then also compare how others see the diagnosis. It can also be a good way to explore other symptoms that I may not have mentioned. But I do understand your approach (as I do the same thing...stick with the same person who understands something well)! I am by no means discouraging that! LOL
      But sometimes it's helpful.

I was diagnosed with PTSD after an assault about 4 years ago. Therapists only spoke about my childhood. Other than my assault ptsd, I was never told of other issues. I saw a few therapists who did the same. I felt they weren’t touching on my assault, which made me stop going. They all wanted to talk about my mom wouldn’t wouldn’t explain why. My mo was in and out of mental hospitals and I saw her “episodes”. Even seeing her wrist slit and blood dripping. I always tried to protect her and felt I did pretty well with mental health until my assault. I’ve never been the same. I can’t stop thinking about it. I have panic attacks minimum 4 times weekly. I have been isolating. I don’t walk outside when I’m home alone, in fear of being attacked. My ptsd has intensified over the layout 4 years, since my assault. This is the short version. I’m currently out of state in a hotel. Patiently waiting to get back home so that I can find a therapist or psychiatrist. After my diagnosis, I was out on 9 different meds. I stopped them because they made me not feel motions. I know at this point, that I need therapy and need to be on meds.

Good video, I have been looking for in-depth info on this.
I have seen a lot of people in the borderline community all of a sudden denying their own diagnosis and now calling it CPTSD. And it's all really fuzzy because so many psychologists are defining them as synonymous. But I know many people diagnosed Borderline can have both. And in my understanding, people with CPTSD don't split( idealize and devalue). And as far as I know people with CPTSD don't have fear of abandonment, they are more likely to have a consistent mistrust rather than yo-yo between trust and mistrust like the Borderline sufferer.

    • @Overthetop242
      @Overthetop242 4 года назад +6

I had an initial diagnosis of PTSD as a result of narcissistic abuse and sexual assault. Then the "therapists" got together and twisted everything up without even doing proper screening and history, then and held it as BPD. They were way off course and I feel immense damage as my traumatized, hyper-vigilent, mistrusting PTSD mind, now has the BPD seeds planted.
Another differentiating characteristic btw CPTSD and BPD, is that BPD is a personality disorder.... DSM states something like... pervasive symptoms. You would have recognized these traits for your whole life, versus PTSD which comes about from something external to your being.
Also... the identity disturbance of the self... with BPD it is inherent, and with CPTSD it is triggered by external influences. This is a key difference and easy to monitor and self determine.
My heartfelt thoughts are with those who have suffered the misdiagnosis due to ignorance and professional arrogance.

I grew up in i guess you can say a dramatic an chaotic household with parents fighting an yelling pretty often an was abused verbally an physically sometimes by my mom an just lived through a lot of stressful times, an then in September 15th 2019 my mom died from a heart attack, seizure or stroke not sure what though but it happened while she was driving an I had to hit the hazard lights an pull off the road an call 911 an she died infront of me nothin i could do literally in my hand, thing is Thank God that all the cars were stopped at the intersection other wise it would've been even worse an more people hurt, after a year from that I started noticing I have ocd an kinda a contamination phobia with my hands an things I use daily like my phone an etc, looking back I noticed I had ocd symptoms over 5 years ago but I didn't know until it got kinda how it is now when I noticed it, i feel very enstranged with both sides of family, I just live with my dad now an I have no friends an find it hard to make friends an even really talk an connect with people, I'm a pretty lonely person, I haven't had nightmares about my mom dying but I often have nightmares of my parents yellin sometimes it's strange, so after everything I'm assuming I have ptsd or c ptsd, I do avoid the roads an places we stopped that day my mom died, an I think back at all the bogus things in my short life often an I guess maybe I even avoid people if I can like goin around family, also in around 2016 or 2017 my dad got diagnosed with schizophrenia an it was a pretty crazy time an he said he was goin to stay at his parents house for a few days but he just stayed living there an me an my mom ended up moving but he still helped us out with rent an stuff it's just for some reason he just stayed at his parents, these are just a few things mainly the bigger stuff that sucks in my life, i hope you read this an can maybe help me on whats wrong with me an if i do have ptsd or c ptsd cause honestly im still listening to the video an it all really sounds relatable, especially all the world view stuff you talked about, I have thoughts of the events in my life randomly, I probably do have a poor appetite an I am pretty hypervigliant ive always been a observer typa person an i get startled an have anxiety when people knock on the front door an when I get random calls an they leave a voicemail I dread listening to the voicemail an then turn the volume low so I can hear who it is, sorry for the long comment, im just really curious if i have complex ptsd I tried saying it all of how I feel, God bless you sister, shalom

Does it have to be only severe trauma as sexual abuse, severe bullying, human trafficking, murder, cult abuse? And what is the difference between just trauma(parents fighting and manipulation, guilt tripping, not being heard watching other people fight, not severe bullying) and cptsd? Cuz when I see people talking about it their trauma is so much more severe then mine, symptoms and flashbacks are more severe I don’t have a therapist or anyone else to talk to abt this but I’ll probably look for help in a few months as soon as I turn 18 but saying to them that I suspect that this could be my diagnosis feels so ungrateful, filthy and attention and problem seeking like I’m making it up

What is it when we lived with an abusive father, see him abuse your mother, have sexual trauma and get abused by another family member later in life. Would that be CPTSD? I was diagnosed with all the anxiety disorders possible and depression as well as BPD traits. I tried meds then got off them because I no longer liked feeling numb. I prefer counselling that helped me more. My biggest problem is trusting men and unable to trust my family after all of these years. I have trigger responses which set me back, especially when I am in an abusive work situation. Despite all of this, I am trying to remain positive. I really think that my family is my biggest problem because they are a constant trigger and stress.

I have had talk therapy for 5 years and I wasn't sure if I had complex PTSD. My counselors haven't caught it. I am starting to wonder if I do. I had years of narcissistic abuse from my guardian after my parents died. She stole my dad's inheritance, took over the house and hardly fed us (and much more).. I'm noticing that I have relationship issues. I don't trust anyone except my husband. My husband and I have peace mostly. Hardly fight and he's such a good man but I find myself running away from other relationships and being very lonely. I also get triggered by some friends who remind me of my abuser and then I ruminate for a week about them. I think I'll only find relief if I cut them out. I have no interest in being social because deep down I believe I can't make meaningful friends. My husband says I'm always looking for ways people are going to screw me over. . Is this CPTSD possibly?

Years and years of religious trauma can lead to complex PTSD because most religious trauma is the result of cults. Religious preference and being raised with a religious mindset/framework is different from being forced to believe and accept something that you don't find comforting to the point of being threatened, manipulated, or harmed in some other way. Religion should never be forced upon another human being. We can encourage it and show love in hopes that another person may consider a different way of life. But "forcing" is not okay!

No, not really. It's the same disorder but at a chronic level. That's like depression being the same as severe depression but at a different level. Same thing, different level of intensity.

My therapist diagnosis me PTSD but she write in the papers that I been suffering from this for 20 years which is truth that makes my PTSD chronic or complex? I should ask her to change the diagnosis? Have PTSD makes me a mental patient? I’m recently diagnosis and I don’t know nothing about this I need some orientation.

I would say that it all depends on your situation. If you have had PTSD for 20 years that doesn't necessarily mean it is complex. It could just be PTSD that you have struggled with for 20 years. The other side of this is that no therapist will change the diagnosis based on your asking them to do so. This is against their legal and ethical code which can lead to a loss in license. But what she/he can do is hear you out and take into consideration your concerns.

What is it if someone gets ptsd with hallucinations and then stays in the environment that caused it so they stayed dissociated and added a lot of other traumas? Like personal injuries/accidents, other smaller traumas, etc? Where there is a large number of traumas after the major traumatic experience? Where it’s basically one long prolonged trauma and now the person stays dissociated and non functioning constantly?

Either a dissociative fugue or catatonic state. I was in a fugue state in 2020. Took about 9 months of intense therapy to start coming out of its

What if you experienced trauma everyday, all day for around 18 years?

This is horrible. This might be categorized as complex and chronic PTSD. It would take a really good therapist to tease apart your trauma.

I do not. I'm not a big proponent and I have yet to see any real research on medical marijuana for mental health conditions.

I bet. LA is a sad place when you think about it. Too many homeless, untreated mentally ill, etc on the streets.
