It is a great misnomer that most people seek perpetual happiness. It is not possible nor desirable. What most of us seek is fulfillment and contentment while experiencing the full gamut of the human emotional spectrum.
“Thank God we didn’t all get what we wanted when we were young, or we would be trapped by that.” Wow, of all the quotes he throws out in this clip, that last one stands out to me the most.
HAPPINESS IS NOT A GOAL. It is simply what happens when you do something out of love. The moment you start seeing it as a priority, that's when it dies. You do not have to worry about happiness. Just do everything in your life that brings you joy no matter how small it may be, and happiness will happen.
I used to be super positive as a kid until I was gradually ground down. Now I’m picking it back up again! On the bright side I get to experience this as an experienced caretaker of myself with boundaries!
Joe, you need to bring more people like this guy to your show. This guy radiates some much positivity that the battery on my phone charged itself! Lol have a good day everyone, life is short.
Judgmental people who don't actually hold the occupation of a Legal Judge, should watch this. Thank-you Naval. This is actually a nice belated birthday present. Here's to a better year this year, Joe. Dope!
Happiness comes from security which most people lack. Security is a basic need according to psychology and Abraham maslows hierarchy of needs. Security is more important than love on the hierarchy.
I disagree. I think happiness comes more from purpose than from security. Otherwise rich people and wealthy countries would be the happiest on earth, which is certainly not the case. Unless you mean something other than physical and financial security, in which case perhaps I agree.
@@SolarJakee yes Jake. I mean more than physical security and financial security. What most those rich and wealthy people you mention are lacking is a lack of health. Good health is happiness. Health is the only purpose humans need. The greatest happiness for the greatest number. Everyone's purpose should be improving their habits.
Id like to add to that, security and stability, together with a purpose and shared purpose with gives it meaning. A purpose has no meaning if it is not for a cause and our main cause is to live, provide life and love and security, this is happiness. But only when shared.
This is a life changer they don't teach in school sadly ... conversation and taking care mostly with family yet sometimes doesn't happen there either. We each create our own way
Man, it’s incredible how many people’s lives have changed thanks to Joe Rogan’s podcast and his amazing guests. Thank you for bringing inspiration to millions of us Joe ❤ “you’re one decision away from a totally different life”
However one must admit that when you are born with very few opportunities, it is harder than for someone born with everything. Having said, we’re all going to die, so why not be nice.
I actually disagree. Kids born into rich families who have everything handed to them on a platter are deprived of struggle and challenges, which are absolutely necessary for developing character and learning what is important in life and what isn't. I wasn't born into a rich family but I was certainly coddled to a large degree for a lot of my life and as a result suffered from anxiety and depersonalisation for 10 years as I hadn't learnt the lessons I needed to be able to overcome it. Only since forcing myself out of my comfort zone and hardening my mind through doing the things that terrify me have I been able to start having some semblance of control over my mind and my life. Obviously there's limits to it, some kid born into abject poverty in a third world slum might live a shitty life no matter how deal with it. Even then, I've spent time with people in Sri Lanka who lived in temporary dwellings for years after having their homes destroyed in the tsunami and losing many friends and family members and yet they were without a doubt much happier than myself and most of the people I knew back in the UK. Basically, there are much more important factors than money when it comes to happiness. I honestly can't believe Joe "have you ever smoked DMT" Rogan seems to think you can't be happy without being loaded. Pretty ludicrous if you think about it really.
Every word, thought that comes from this podcast just cliks 👍🙆♂️we need NAVAL on your podcast again. big up joe i like how you initiate the conversation 🙏🙏

remarkable wisdom that very much mirrors my understanding of being happy. it's not a goal, but it's what happens as you clear the clutter of your mind. All the habits are the content that keep someone in a state of unhappiness. When there are few mental habits functioning, you are quite happy. And the hard part is that you cannot delete habits in one sitting, they must be pruned out and killed off over time. It's that time commitment, that I believe separates those who truly want to be happy from those who actually don't want to be happy. Because if you want it, you will put in the time (not effort) required to find it.

God damn, lay down the truth. That was really well put much respect
HAPPINESS IS NOT A GOAL. It is simply what happens when you do something out of love. The moment you start seeing it as a priority, that's when it dies. You do not have to worry about happiness. Just do everything in your life that brings you joy no matter how small it may be, and happiness will happen.
Wow.. such a wise man, learned a lot from him, thank you joe :)
Wow the last few minutes 🥰🥰🥰 what a blessing that we didn’t get everything we’ve ever wanted !
I didn’t necessarily become more optimistic as I got older, I just stopped giving a shit.
I used to be super positive as a kid until I was gradually ground down.
Now I’m picking it back up again!
On the bright side I get to experience this as an experienced caretaker of myself with boundaries!
When something bothers you examine why you feel that way

Well I started telling my wife that happiness was my new number 1 goal and RUclips put this on my home feed. I suppose I should be happy about that!!
Never heard of this Gentleman ,his really cool!!! ,thank you Joe Rogan for such an awesome experience
You know the guest is good if Joe doesn’t even try to take control. This is one of my favorite guest of all time. I will not forget this video.
Dope!
I've been disproportionately happy my entire life.
I think it's because I have very few needs and I enjoy seeing other people happy 😃
Yes, simplicity and giving. The most underrated roads to peace and contentment.
You can just listen this podcast again and again and change your life for good
This has been one of my favorite things on the internet for a year. Enjoy revisiting to refresh my mind.
Great show and guest. Positive vibes only
“The world just reflects your feelings back to you, reality is NEUTRAL. Reality has no judgment”
As a Man Thinketh
The universe is rigged in such a way that if you want just one thing, focus on it, and you’ll get it...💯‼️
Such a good thing to hear.

What helped me
Carlos Castaneda in his book Journey to Ixtlan !
However one must admit that when you are born with very few opportunities, it is harder than for someone born with everything.
Having said, we’re all going to die, so why not be nice.
It doesnt matter, it's a mindset
I dont remember him saying oppurtunities will make you happy? You make yourself happy, what other people give you shouldn't gauge your own happiness
Duty is my priority. It doesnt make me happy but my life is meaningful.
Yes, exactly.
Bear River enjoy the little things my guy. It helps a lot
@Benton Cannon no its not lol. Taking care of a family is duty. Plenty of things are duty, and money plays no part in it
Welp, I'm gonna make "doodie" my priority right now. lmao
Lol
This one is a gem. What do I wanna be when I grow up? I wanna be happy all the time :) that's all, and everything else comes when I am happy.
If anyone has depression show them this

Sometimes it is someone else's fault, but it turns back into your own fault when you don't walk away from that someone else.
remarkable wisdom that very much mirrors my understanding of being happy. it's not a goal, but it's what happens as you clear the clutter of your mind.
