    FR301, best soldering tool I ever bought. After years of pure misery with squeeze bulbs, spring loaded suckers, desoldering braid. Should have bought one way sooner. About as massive a change as going from a crappy radio shack soldering iron to a proper temp controlled Hakko 936.

    • @AnotherMaker

      You're absolutely right. l don't remember if I mentioned it in this video, but I bought this after damaging a board I really wanted to fix because it took too many tries to get a chip desoldered with braid and hot air. This thing has been amazing.

    I am currently learning how to solder, but the most challenging part for me is desoldering. I've heard great things about the desoldering gun, so I recently purchased one on eBay to make the process easier. Your video has helped me to confirm what I've read, and I already have a stand that I can use. Thank you for the informative video!

    I've held off buying one of these due to the price.
    But today, I ordered a ProsKit SS-331 which is a desolder "station" in that there's the controller box with LCD and the vacuum pump is inside this.
    The gun is very light and from reviews, much easier to manipulate.
    It's also less expensive, which gives me the excuse...... I MEAN REASON (cough) to buy it. LOL

    Looking at the FR-301/P with precision temperature setting. In the field this seems to be the best alternative especially when you must un-solder parts from boards currently installed (hardwired) at odd angle, sometimes on their side vs. on a flat surface.

      I used one of the cheap desoldering guns myself for a short while. When it worked...... It worked great! But it was prone to clogging, the temperature accuracy was not there, and it was really noisy. After several short desoldering jobs, the entire heating tip fell off. The heat, poor workmanship and lousy glue job rendered this tool useless... I did re- glue the tip back on, but it didn’t last long before it broke again.
      Was going to buy another cheap”O” gun but in the end decided to buy the Hakko.

      Sometimes you have to add a little extra solder. The other 2 tricks I've learned are to hold the trigger a little longer and if a pin is against the side, use the tool to bend the pin to the center so it doesn't restick. Once you get the hang of it, you will love it... I think ;)

      You can buy a 2 piece desoldering station with the pump in a separate housing from Yihua or Aoyue for less than $180. The Yihua would probably have to come direct from China or Asia because I don't know of any American distributors, but the distributor for Aoyue in the States is located in Massachusetts which means it'll be easier if you have any kind of warranty or technical issues, or need new tips and replacement parts. I used an Aoyue for the last 5 years of my audio electronics repair career (the 1980s Hakko units in the shop wemre failing and we couldn't get parts because they were so old) and it worked surprisingly well.

      At less than 3 &1/2 minutes, I tend to agree with the OP: it's not much of a review. Also, having spent 20 years doing full-time audio electronics repair and working with Hakko and Aoyue desoldering stations every day, if you're gonna use it more than a few times a year, or for a half or full day on occasion, I would suggest buying a unit with the pump in a separate box from the gun because it will be a lot easier on your hand when the gun is half or 1/3 of the weight, less bulky, and doesn't vibrate like this does because the suction motor is built directly into the gun. You can buy a Yihua or Aoyue desoldering station for well under 200 bucks.

    I’ve had the “Cheap” desoldering guns.
    There NOT worth the money! Unreliable and constantly clogging up. With all of them breaking within a short usage period. For the money I’ve spent on the cheap ones, I could have bought the Hakko. Which I should have done in the first place!

    • @AnotherMaker
      @AnotherMaker  2 года назад

      That's REALLY good to know. I've seen a ton of initial impressions videos of the cheap ones, but no long term reviews. I couldn't be happier with the Hakko other than its worthless stand.

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 3 дня назад

      Which cheap desolderi g stations did you have that all broke on you? A lot of people have been using Yihua and their assessments have generally been good ---- IF it arrives in working condition. Typically you have to order them direct from China or Asia because I don't believe there are any authorized distributors in the US. I used an Aoyue dual soldering/desoldering station for the last 5 years of my audio repair bench tech career and it worked surprisingly well. Both Yihua and Aoyue make two piece, stand alone desoldering stations for less than $180, and Aoyue has a distributor in Massachusetts. I wasn't that impressed with the soldering iron that came with the fancier Aoyue as it was a little light duty for most of my work but the desoldering half was great.

    • @robertmitchum2972
      @robertmitchum2972 5 часов назад

      I honestly don’t remember what make it was. I know I didn’t spend more than 80 to 90 dollars on any of them.
      They worked decently for a while and various problems occurred. The plastic on one of the desoldering guns cracked and had no suction, repaired that and it lasted a while longer. The display screen crapped out on two of them. The temperature regulation was way out of accuracy, always had to run the iron hotter than the actual display. Desoldering gun was constantly clogging…
      As I got deeper into electronics repair and builds, I just wanted something reliable. And the Hakko brand has been good to me so far.
