Great interview Dan....Faldo's golf accumen never disappoints especially when it's sprinkled with his larger than life personality. Agreed....Phil all the way. He deserve it for his endearing personal touch with people and his unwavering dedication. Bravo ! CHAMPION !😊👍🥂🥇🇨🇦
Couldn’t help but smile and laugh during that exchange. My wife and I and our 7 year old nephew went to The Players Championship in 2007. We stayed at the hotel on the TPC course and players were all around us. We stayed next door to Michael Campbell...Ian Poulter checks in carrying his clothes...Stuart Appleby is meeting with his group. Arnold Palmer is standing alone in the lobby, K.J. Choi walks into the hotel gift shop, my wife talks with David Toms as Toms’ mother was one of her high school teachers...etc. etc...my nephew, the cutest autograph hound of all time is in heaven because I have most of the golfers Fleer ‘golf card’ so he’s as busy as a kid can possibly be. Faldo walks by and I said ‘Chaseman, that’s Nick Faldo, he won the Masters 3-times and the British Open 3-times. And , like Usain Bolt, Chaseman begins a hilarious chase for Nick Faldo. Nick Faldo is a very fast Walker and is unaware that this little kid is determined to get his autograph. Approximately 200 yards later Chaseman catches up and Faldo gives the autograph. You had to be there. I’m glad I was. Thanks Nick Faldo!
This win is a feat. A true win for the ages. Phil’s victory at almost 51 years of age will be revered for years. It’s the greatest win in the last 25 years including Tigers in 2019.
Phil’s is out of nowhere. If it was 2017 right after Tiger’s arrest we would definitely say Phil more likely to win a major at 50 than tiger to ever win a major again...at least what’s how I feel
Although Phil's is right there, Tigers Masters victory is still one of the best..along with Hogan's US Open victory, Jacks Masters, and now Phil's would most likely be the top 4... Physically Phil has always been able to compete, now with his new found mental attributes, I believe he very well could win another major and maybe get that career grand slam
I love listening to Nick Faldo-he has a great sense of humour and his golf knowledge goes without saying. Gary player is another one I’ve been listening to a lot lately too-love his views on just about everything.
Great interview!!! Enjoyed watching Nick Faldo being ‘just a guy’ that watched an historical exhibition of golf. Faldo is a guy I would enjoy having a beer with.
How GREAT is this? Phil gifting the world with a performance to marvel at and relive - forever. The GREAT Sir Nick Faldo giving his always brilliant, winning, fascinating take on the mind, body and spirit of a major champion.
Phil is freak ..... reinvented statue and endurance. He shapes the ball a lot . I followed him at 24 , watched him hit straight bullets . Putting him on the coast , with wind was like Torrey Pines ( home course in San Diego )
I was a bit lukewarm on Nick when he was in his prime. But he really is fun these days in the booth. I loved last weekend’s PGA. So fun to watch old guys bring it together against strong young fields.
@@DabsDad Miller was dominant in his time, but in the booth he and Azinger are hypercritical and that takes the fun out of it for me. I prefer goofball Feherty, witty Faldo, and nut-job Mcord for their humor.
Of course it’s Phil. Brady was on the field with 10 other guys. LaBrain? Forget it. This is a new Phil. If he was like this 10 yrs ago he’d have over 10 majors.
Nick hinted he wish he could of opened up more with the crowd when he was an active player. I wish he would have too. This interview showed his true sense of humor.
This victory of course was great for Phil along with all the doubters! But was great for golf, sports and us 50+ guys. Like Brady Phil still has it in him and deserves a big congratulations!
The reason Phil is the People’s Champion is an easy answer. It’s because his failures have been as spectacular as his achievements. Who in this world can’t relate to failure and disappointment? And when he has had these heartbreaking failures, he has always handled them with total class and dignity. Who can forget he was leading the U.S. Open in 2013 at Merion going into the final round. It wasn’t his day and Justin Rose outplayed him and wins. After that round Phil said all he felt was heartbreak and he didn’t get out of bed for a week. So how does he handle that? He comes back a month later and wins the Open Championship at Muirfield. This is just one example. He gets knocked down time and time again but he always comes back and is still standing there the next week trying again. In addition to that, he takes time to acknowledge the fans. Thumbs up’s, nodding at them, waving. This he learned from Arnold Palmer who told him to try to make the fans feel like you’re acknowledging them. They paid to come watch so show them the appreciation. Class act all the way. So happy for him. TeamPhil
he is the people champ because he hits more shots where "all the people" are sitting and standing every tournament... He puts shots everywhere you and I would. But then he shows the difference between him and all of us... He gives everyone hope! he even put it into the water on the back 9 and I called it. cause it made better entertainment and he always goes for it. That's what people want... people don't want the guy who just won his first tournament on the european tour a week ago after trying for 30 years.... we want the guy who can still do it after 30 years! thats the peoples champ!
Nick reminds me of Phil Rudd from AC/DC. I think Phil was more impressive than Tiger since Phil really went down the last couple years. I didn't even expect him to make the cut and yet he wins the whole thing.
Exactly. Tiger also had several top tens at the Masters in addition to his previous four wins there. Tiger also missed three Masters (before 2019) due to injury. Tiger knows Augusta National very well and how to play the shots there. He likes the layout there. He was always a threat to win there. I don't know exactly how the back surgery affected Tiger (and I wouldn't want to guess), but the reality is he hit the ground running in 2018 in his return to golf. He played a full schedule in 2018 that included 7 top ten finishes. He finished 2nd at the PGA Championship in 2018 and then finished that 2018 season with a WIN at the Tour Championship. Tiger then had a solid start to the 2019 season. Tiger was on form for about 15 consecutive months leading into the 2019 Masters. Phil, meanwhile, had fallen out of the top 100 in the OWGR and was playing a very long course that nobody really seems to like. It's constantly exposed to the winds. The Ocean Course is also not a regular PGA tour stop and only one other major had been played there.
I think tigers was better because his body was literally destroyed and put back together and all you heard was he’s never gonna win again. Tigers last surgery before he won makes it impossible for you to twist your hips it locked his upper body to his lower body literally not just like it’s harder to turn.
Well faldo certainly didn't switch the compression on his golf ball during a ryder cup match.. Ironically at kiawah.. Seve sorted the mess out though.. Cheats!! And now zinger an analyst.. Someone should bring that up.. See what he says!!
So hard to compare generations...we have so much more knowledge now..cameras, work ethic, golf equipment, better mowers for the greens...but talent wise. I feel he’s def top 12...it is all opinion
Typical Phil had the cut made at Colonial this weekend and bogied the last hole to miss the cut by a shot. He is all over the place that is so maddening.
I mean what else is Nick Faldo gonna say Mickelson vs Serena vs LeBron vs Brady....but gotta go with either Brady (given his pivotal role as QB) or Serena (given the individual aspect of tennis and fitness level required in tennis)...and I'm not a fan of either Brady or Serena. Having said that...very exciting trophy for Mickelson yesterday.
I don't care if Nick didn't wax smooth with the media or galleries. I loved watching him completely intimidate and destroy smooth waxer Greg Norman. I felt sorry for Greg a little but not really. I thought he would get a green jacket but it never happened. I do wish he had at some point. But Nick was a tactician, a sniper, a sort of ninja and it was great to watch.
golf is the only sport, where wisdom is valuable. Keep it Simple Silly, don't hurt your back, your knees, keep swinging and learning... phil is the Goat. Tiger is the short term Goat, unless he can Major up again...
I'd like to see Serena, the greatest women's athlete ever, to win any major at age 40, let alone age 50. Childbirth is traumatic but still Phil's feat is incredible.
Greg Norman lost the 96 masters by playing way too conservative. Faldo just hung in there and let Norman lose it himself. I was screaming at the tv telling Norman to play more aggresive like he did in the first 3 rounds.
What Brady did was WAY more impressive. Tom Watson at age 59 lost the British Open in a sudden death playoff. How impressed would you be by "Brady's incredible accomplishment of winning a Super Bowl at age 43" if some other quarterback had previously barely lost a Super Bowl in overtime at age 52? WAY less. Phil winning a major at 50 is great, but Watson came within 1 putt from doing the same at 9 years his senior, whereas no quarterback even SNIFFED a Superbowl victory at age 43 until Tom.
Maybe give Phil some credit: @15:20 of his Championship interview he acknowledged Watson's play in the 2009 British Open as "one of the greatest performances in sport."
I like this guy but damn. He can babble on like very few. If he didn’t have that limey accent, he’d be just another generic analyst. But the trophy show at the end was outstanding.
I love the fact that viewership on Sunday’s PGA blew away NBA viewership.
It’s the classiest sport out there.
I’ve boycotted the big 4 and will never look back.
