- Jul.18 -- Steve Ballmer, former chief executive officer of Microsoft Corp. and current Los Angeles Clippers owner, talks about meeting Bill Gates at Harvard, his early years at Microsoft and subsequent rise to CEO in 2000. He also discusses philanthropy and his views on leadership with David Rubenstein in the latest episode of "The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations."
Mannn, i could listen to Steve 24/7. I can feel his passion and enthusiasm across my computer screen!
i think this is how he convinced nokia to not use android - he seems very strong and charismatic so i assume people just listen to him and/or are afraid to contradict him
This man is so honest and passionate.
This man is the worst CEO for Microsoft
Matters not.Character is everything, and that is what shows in this interview.
desaturated Bing got huge though
desaturated there’s literally been 3 CEO’s for Microsoft so there’s a really high bar so that’s not saying much and he jump started the surface which is the most profitable thing they do
@@desaturated6049 He is now the 5th richest.
In the business world, cocaine does Steve Ballmer.
hahahahahah
hahhahahahahahhaahah😂😂😂
i can't forget video from the 90s where Steve all sweaty screams "developers developers" lmfao
😂😂😂😂😂

Yet another excellent peer to peer interview. Thank you to David Rubenstein for putting this "Conversations-Interviews"program together. Please keep them coming! Thanks to all the interviewees and, in this case, to Steve Balmer for letting us into your world and thoughts. Your sharing is much appreciated.
Rashid Kapadia - Completely agree!
Didn’t like Ballmer for years but after watching the show...realized how hard he worked all his life. Now have much respect for the man. Don’t agree with all his views but his loyalty and hard work does inspire in the end. Took me 20 years hhhaha.
Good thing he didn't sell shares when he stepped down as CEO, it has played out very well for him.
Honesty and loyalty paid
well theyre pretty much guaranteed to rise in value if literally anyone else is ceo
@@elbozo5723 $3 dividend per share for 2023 that made him $1 billion for that year
Love that guy. One of the most underrated Generals of American industry.
Had the privilege of sitting beside him on a few occasions in my career, he is as genuine and authentic in person as he is in this video. One of the smartest (with numbers) people I have ever met as well, a very big brain. People often forget that quarter after quarter MSFT consistently earned 30% gross profit under his leadership.
But satya is better than him because he is more successful and he is not technology guy
@@bhaskarvenk He made the company more profit then ever. Their profit tripled at that time. And of course steve was not a tech guy.
Microsoft is a monopoly. 99% of computers in the world run windows
@@omooshg5257 You couldn't be more wrong. Check out the Wikipedia article called "Usage share of operating systems" for some interesting statistics about operating system distribution around the world. Windows is nowhere close to 99%
@@ty814 he made a fortune on the Facebook deal, for that alone he deserves a medal
40 - 50k starting salary in the 80s. Man that's a lot.
I think that's for a year not for month. If that's for months clearly that's a lot.
that's a lot even per year!
$50,000 in 1980 → $155,686.29 in 2019 with inflation
It's a fraction when you think how quickly revenue was growing for technology in the mid-to-late 1980s.
That's a lot today
Nobody can become financially successful overnight. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking the bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.
I think it's not always about fear, Sometimes realistic factors discourage people from reaching their goals in life. For instance, I've tried investing in the stock market several times but always got discouraged by fluctuations of stock value
@@MarcusFred-wn3iv This is the problem! Most times people with little or no knowledge of the stock market try investing by themselves. It once happened to me, then I learned my lesson and contacted a US-based finance consultant by name MARTHA ALONSO HARA and everything changed. I started enjoying huge returns from my investment.
@@BrunoLuke Oh, that sounds good but how do I reach out to MARTHA ALONSO HARA

Humble, honest, intelligent and a hardworking man. Someone to look up to. Great interview, I could listen to Steve for hours.
Great interview.
What he didn’t say was the most important thing.
12:07 "We should have gotten into the business sooner, and that's my.... I blew that." Okay, I'm a huge Gates fan and a huge Satya Nadella fan, and now Steve Ballmer just won me over with that brutally honest line.
still hes a bad CEO
@@elbozo5723 he made a lot of money to MS.
Why??
Thank you Mr. Rubenstein for all your great interviews. I do consider you a journalist.
As soon as any journalist acquires an agenda.... thats where the journalism ends.
@@xBrOwNeDoG true also.
that "journalist" is worth $ 3,7 billion
Damn my grandpa also immigrated from Switzerland to work at Ford ! This guy is such a blast !
Whatever anyone says - Steve's very honest, energetic and turns out to be the biggest believer of his company Microsoft !
Man, I hope the Clippers wins a championship. Steve Ballmer is such a great dude!
I could watch this interview 100 times in a row.
Please do one with Stanley Druckenmiller. It's going to be good, you share the same calm vibe.
He is a really honest guy and speaks with numbers. Great deal breaker!!!!
What a quality dude. Just a real, genuine fellow, and I respect the crap out of this guy!
I dont believe Steve Ballmer was ever a shy kid
maybe he is too naturally anxious so he transform that into a full blown adrenaline attitude
I love steve Balmer .....He is so extrovert, outspoken ,enthusiastic...
Steve Ballmer is my spirit animal
This interview was very good. Thank you!
Love it! Thanks David
Its good that he actually admitted what he did was wrong.
It was a big risk for company as big as Microsoft to turn their core business around. Especially after he, as the one of the leaders of it experienced 2 major crisis in his turn. Remember, Apple was almost all in on the iPhone, Microsoft was the king in the tech world back then. They even had the best software for the smartphone at the time, but it's hard to go against 25+ years of legacy, this mistake isn't solely on him, it happened through the history, closest one to compare it to is IBM.
Great episode!
Such a great interview, a lot of great lessons! Thank you for sharing, this is truly inspiring.
Steve Ballmer is the human version of the drug speed.
Interesting, I just assumed that he was a born extrovert, it's cool to see that he developed that persona.
Just goes to show the power of holding onto a successful stock... Thank you for sharing!
this guy is awesome
Great interview. Ballmer does seem like a nice guy, personally.
Great interview. I enjoyed it. 👍👍👍
Steve Ballmer is a great man. Great role model.
"What the heck is software"
Thanks to Steve for letting me type on my PC, though I use linux!
Love this show
Truly a leader!
He is full of life..... laughter says it all....
His social confidence reminds me of mine.. After 10 beers.
Of course I dont get the same result :)
A leader has to be a leader of Ideas which leads people.....a great talk....Thanks
so energetic .... I like the guy , not too many people like him , but i think he is fun to be around and looks like is a very happy billionaire.
You can tell this guy has a strong work ethic.
Love this guy!
Does Ballmer like developers by any chance...what a guy, I love him, his energy and passion for Microsoft is class
Yeah but stock dropped diting3 his time and skyrocketed during satya ,3 tomes
@@bhaskarvenk incorrect - earnings tripled under Ballmer and tripled under Satya's
Does anybody know what that intro song was? That cool beat/instrumental?
that energy though 🔥
Great video ever you are my role model
absolutely this is a wonderful video. thumbs up !.,.,.,
Great guy!!! Greets from Germany. 😁
He was right about Developers tho.
Basically he's saying he hit the lottery by meeting Bill Gates.
Owesome Music my thought exactly
He was obviously competent, he was at the right place at the right time, nobody becomes CEO because you are friends with the founder.A founder of a business will give responsibilities to the ones who have the capacity to do well their job...
Owesome Music You got to be really fucking smart to get chosen by Bill Gates himself
Owesome Music he didn't just sit and do nothing, he worked his ass off to get to where he is,
And Bill Gates hit the lottery by meeting Steve Ballmer. Nobody builds a company like Microsoft alone.
Amazing viedo.
Rich in ecomical wisdom.
We've got the tie joke now, thanks.
never seen David Rubenstein smile; and he should as a host
In several instances in this interview I thought 'uugh u should atleast chuckled to flow with this energetic gentleman '. I agree he's kinda serious
I wish my brain was also wired like Im on natural cocaine 24/7
Amazing to think if he never met that Bill Gates guy he wouldn't be where he is today. Right place, right time is just as important as having the traits that made him into CEO.
Cocaine is a powerful drug.
*balmer
Why he is saying this???
I fucking LOVE Steve Ballmer's energy! I mean I would much rather have him as an investor than Bill. Although, I'm sure they would be both cool!
Satya is cooler than both and stock rocks

You don’t need to be depressed for missing iPhone. You Have An Excellent Company. Very 🤓 but Excellently
This guy out there would match up very well with Steve Jobs in a company 😂
The guy who literally threw Microsoft Outta the window
Are you absurd? Earnings tripled under him while earnings have just under double under Satya Nadella. He made Microsoft an economic powerhouse by the time he left and he has been a great goddamn leader.
Remmeber, O365 and Azure was developed under his tutelage. Satya was handed a goldmine.
He ran from 2000 - 2014. I would say Xp and Windows 7 did good. Windows 8 was handsdown the worst OS made so.. you can blame that one i guess. I would argue Windows 10 is 2nd worst, but tolerable atleast
Missed the golden opportunity to say "outta the Windows".
He gets too much flak. He did so much good
I like this man
Principle #1 Don't talk to anybody after a loss. 😂😂
I like Balmer he's my kind of a Billionaire, so open and with so much clarity on business world

Great guy!
Oneof the last "living the dream" guys!!!!
hes actually really well not boring
Steve Ballmer used to hate linux, at one point even said that it's Cancer, but later praised Satya Nadella for taking interest in open source.
He said that during his time things were different.
There's this energy in our spirit Steve, that we don't oppose God, and that's the most sensitive part of the spirit, whether we oppose God or not, whether we support God's purpose or not, and that is the difference, those things you just don't mess with, you can't be a false.representation of
