I don't love everything Montblanc does but that salmon dial 3 hander they did is Beautiful and their monopusher heritage chronograph is real nice and both pieces especially the salmon dial can be found under 2k all day long. I just might have to pick one up eventually
With vintage sport watches, the goal is not to swim with the watch. The goal is to protect the dial and movement from accidental intrusion: hand washing, humidity, spills, rain, etc. Besides stripped threads, cases can have pitting that will prevent the gasket from ever sealing correctly. My strategy is to wear a modern piece when the situation, weather, etc. suggests I'll have to worry about a vintage piece.
I just don't get people who intentionally expose nice luxury watches to water. A $30 Casio maybe, but a vintage luxury watch? WTF? What is the weird fascination with going swimming with luxury timepieces? Stupid.....

Another issue is the watch's WR rating may be fine, it could be a little extra moisture could have gotten in when the watch was laster serviced; if this happens fogging will occur if the watch changes temps too fast.

Speaking of eBay, recently , I learned that eBay favors the seller more than the buyer, I bought a watch from a Japanese dealer which subsequently did not fulfill its obligation of delivering it and refunded my money only to post it again at 3x the price. I posted negative review for them naturally and the seller contacted me bribing me 150$ just to change my feedback, I declined, but after 1 week the review was gone and I got a warning from eBay stating I tried to extort money from the seller. I contacted them explaining the indicent along with the conversation screenshots with the seller several times and eBay never responded, not even once.
