    There is poll up on the channel for what we want to talk about next week, with the Archer, Orion, Gargoyle (Man o'War) and Mercury. I already have a presentation on the Sentinel lined up, and one on the Cossack/Helios lined up as well (half way done) for next week already.

    I always liked the Bushy. Way back in the day I was on a MechWarrior 4 team in a league where we were mercs. Maybe a 1/4 of our mechs were Bushwackers. 55 tons fit into the varying drop weights, it was a little harder to hit at range from front on than most other mechs in MW4, and it seemed to take a bigger beating than other 50 to 60 tons mechs for some reason. Plus it was low to the ground, allowing better use of cover.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn

      It's a 'mech that can punch above its weight class most of the time, and it's low to the ground and narrow profile does make it more survivable.

  • @Kepora1
    @Kepora1 9 месяцев назад +2

    I designed one of these in MWO and I've been loving it. Kept the default XL engine, endo and light Ferro refit. Max armor, LB10 in the right arm, Large Laser in the CT, two MRM10s in the left arm. It's a solid, mobile mid-range fighter that's SUPER heat efficient - 10 doubles works fine like 99% of the time, has enough Ammo for a standard engagement, and even without resupply it's got a solid Large Laser in the CT and still moves 81 kph so it can contribute to long term fights still.

    • @Kepora1
      @Kepora1 9 месяцев назад +1

      Also, it works great on tabletop! You can swap out the MRM10s for a pair of SRM6, but unless you downgrade them to 4s then it'll eat through that one ton of Ammo faster vs the MRMs that will last you all match.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn
      @ProfessorHeyTeeEn  9 месяцев назад

      I generally prefer SRMs to MRMs, if you are worrying about ammo capacity, go with 2 SSRM4

    • @Kepora1
      @Kepora1 9 месяцев назад

      @@ProfessorHeyTeeEn alright. I chose MRMs because the range pairs well with the other weapons, lets it hang back and slap people from a decent range. I was leaning towards SRMs, but with the XL - even with the narrow side torsos - I find the MRMs let me stay at a safer range. I considered an LRM15, but I'd have to gimp armor or LB Ammo for that.

  • @jamesbeard5513
    @jamesbeard5513 9 месяцев назад +2

    I remember playing the X1 version of the Bushwacker in MW3, a fairly simple design but still fun to play.
    The latest one has to be one of the best upgrades for the ilClan TechReadouts that doesn't use Clan tech, giving it a flexible and fast moving machine. With the CASE II to protect the engine from the MML ammo. Slight changes to the armor from the original as well with a few points taken from the torso and legs, but giving about a 63% protection increase to the arms.
    As a comparison to designs like the Enforcer, I guess that depends more on if you want speed and flexible firepower vs jumping and endurance (both on the field and how easy it is to repair). I have to say I am surprised at the lack of variants for the Enforcer, even the Enforcer III has more variety.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn
      @ProfessorHeyTeeEn  9 месяцев назад

      The Enforcer having been produced in larger amounts over the years makes it easier to acquire and maintain. As line troopers, you really have to wonder if you want jump jets or not, and I tend to believe they give more flexibility to the design.

    The bushwacker is better off being a missile boat rather than the all range builds the production models and even the experimental models came up with. The X2 had a good idea going but depending on LRM 5s is a big mistake. I would of went with lrm 10, lrm 15 and 2 medium lasers. The bushwacker could fire in the woods or some kinda cover, fire all of it's missiles and dip out until it runs out of ammo. Easy to train on, you just need the missile systems in stock incase of irreparable damage.

    ...Wasn't a huge fan of this Mech until I tried a weapon refit: dropping the AC/10 & ammo, for a Large Pulse Laser, & upgraded the LRM-5 racks to -10 racks. While an Alpha Strike could lead to Heat issues, it performed better overall.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn
      @ProfessorHeyTeeEn  9 месяцев назад +4

      It was originally a supply issue, with most LB-X going to Centurions, Enforcers and Orions.
      Field refits generally switched them as soon as they became available, adding ammo. Ferro-fibrous is easy to install and manufacture, as opposed to endo-steel. That portion I willl always keep adamant about.

    I don't like the Bushwacker. I had bad experiences with it thanks to various videogames, mainly Mechcommander 2 and Mechwarrior 4.
    In MC4 its just a mediocre unit. Like many Inner Sphere mechs in that game its has limited weapon customization options. In that game the only ballistic weapons I would ever want to use are Gauss weapons. Only the Bushwacker could not carry that much weight. On a medium mech I wanted/needed Energy Weapons. So I vastly preferred the Uziel as a faster, jump capable unit that could carry a lot more energy weapons.
    In MC2 its an okay starting unit, but in that game Jump Jets are incredibly valuable and the Bushwacker has no option for them. I vastly preferred lighter, faster, jump-mechs like the Razorback light mech.
    In terms of economics the Bushwacker is quite expensive and mediocre for its cost. Because it uses an Extralight Engine it costs about about 3 times as much as a Centurion medium mech, and as much as an Atlas assault mech.
    Aesthetically its ugly because of its mismatched shoulders.
    Structurally its weak with low armor in those arms where it carries a big chunk of its firepower.
    It's battlefield longevity is poor as it carries little ammunition.
    The thing is the Bushwacker could have been rather easily fixed. Replace the Autocannon-10 with something else, and use a standard fusion engine.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn
      @ProfessorHeyTeeEn  9 месяцев назад

      This is a great explanation for how you feel about the Bushwacker, and I mostly agree with it.
      The only thing I disagree with is the aesthetics part, as I do like the "helicopter with legs" look they were going for with the design.

    • @ChaosTicket

      @@ProfessorHeyTeeEn That wasnt my issue. It was specifically the mismatched shoulders. It looks like a frankenmech. One of the shoulders is a horizontal joint like from a house door.
