Don't know what I was expecting from a review but yours certainly surpassed my expectations. I hope that Dewalt gets to watch reviews from real users, and takes note, as you've given lots to think about in terms of the design of this product. Thank you
This is a great little saw and I got mine as a bare unit on a certain auction site for just over the ton. I use it for ripping up 18mm ply and there’s plenty of power for its size. Longevity with a 5 aH battery is more than acceptable, so overall I’m well pleased.
Thanks for posting this video . I just bought one of these today . Your video helped me set it up rapidly and easily. Agree on the dust extractor. Next time your on site with a plumber get him to knock you up a little plastic right angle for the extractor. Great vid 👍🪚
You are welcome. I don’t use this saw much now because the dust extraction is terrible. A guy on Facebook 3D printed me an adaptor and sent it for free, but the dust extraction is totally useless, especially when cutting chipboard or MDF! Thanks for the comment
These 18volt 5 amp tools are brilliant and the lithium batteries last ages. Makita millwhauki and de Walt are great tools. Thanks for the demo👍👍. Hope everyone has a nice bank holiday weekend ☔☔☔☔☔☔🌧🌧🌧🌧
Thanks, great review. I have several Ryobi One+ tools, including a circular saw, and have used them for years. I especially like the small saw for thin paneling and doing one-handed overhead cuts while hanging from a ladder rung: couldn't do that with a heavy corded saw. When I first bought everything, the 18v batteries were NiCad and did not last for more than a couple of cuts with the circular saw or the chainsaw. When they brought out Li batteries, I switched and it's like night and day. That might be why some people think they're under powered.
I've used this saw for a full day laying decking using 2 x 5ah batteries. Great saw but agree with dust extraction. Being outside no big deal, but noticed last few boards were damp and started to build up under blade guard. Paid £114 and paid for itself, but will upgrade. Sticking with Dewalt
Thanks for the great review! I just borrowed my son-in-law. Great video mate, well done. I would’ve liked to have seen how to set up a 90° cut on the shoe. I can’t find the calibration screw on mine but your vid has helped
I'm so tempted to buy this not sure the wife will approve, I already have a corded dewalt circular saw but this seems much more convenient and similar cutting power just need to make a good excuse to buy it
Tell her that you need it on safety grounds, as the blade stops rotating in a matter of seconds ;-) It's amazing that the lack of a power cord, makes power tools so much easier to use! Thanks for the comment 👍
Just got this saw today and wow🤯 compare to the erbrua whatever name is from Screwfix its like hot and cold.smooth cuts and plenty of torque and power.great saw
This is a brilliant saw, but it really is let down with the dust extraction- which is very poor. I only really noticed this when I was cutting kitchen worktops inside. The dust went everywhere!
It will work, but the run time between charges will be a lot shorter, it might also struggle with harder materials. I have to say that this saw is absolutely superb, I tried another make 18v circular saw a few days back, with more power and a brushless motor and it could not compete with this. The only thing that lets this saw down is the dust extraction!
@@ultimatehandyman thanks for your reply mate. I will consider very much your opinion. Probably I will buy one of these because they're light weight, powerfull enough for the job and very well builded. Dust extraction seems to be the week point of great part of this saws, so it's no a big issue.
I’ve just got the same saw, what battery do you recommend, that 4Ah battery you use seems to do the job nicely but would a 5Ah give any oomph or just a longer running time ? I’m guessing it can only increase the running time. Great review 👍🏼
Sometimes the more powerful AH batteries mean that they can do more difficult jobs. This saw is great and has always cut everything I have ever tried. A few months back I tried another make of circular saw, which on paper looked much more powerful than this saw (the new one was even brushless), it kept stalling! Whilst the Dewalt just powered right through it. The only bad thing about this circular saw, is the useless dust extraction! I’d always go for the 5AH battery, if possible, but 4AH will be fine 👍
Good review Chaz , and always honest . Shame about the dust nozzle position . I'd like to know , does the XR range Batteries fit the FlexVolt range & vise-versa .. Also , have you tried hikoki Saws or Milwaukee saws ..? Thanks again for a nice review.
Yeah, not sure why they put the dust port where it is! From what I understand the flex volt batteries can be used on any Dewalt 18v XR power tool, and they will give a much longer run time. But I don't think you can use the 18v XR batteries on the flex volt tools (as they need 54v). I've not tried Hikoki or Milwaukee saws. I had a lot of Milwaukee tools on site, but mainly metal working tools. I have since stopped working on site and sold all my tools to one of the apprentices. Thanks for the comment
Yeah, the extraction port is a pain in the backside. One idiot commented a few weeks back, saying "you just undo a screw and it adjusts- nobody can be that stupid". Obviously that genius has a different model! There is a guy on Facebook making adaptors- facebook.com/CustomVacAdaptersUK
I use my saw to cut a lot of aluminium so Im wondering how it compares to your average corded, It even struggled a bit with 6mm alloy on the rare occasion I needed to do it... Are there any power comparisons?
I have used this saw to literally cut thousands of sheets of half inch ply no problem ,change the blade every now and again 👍 not quite man enough to do many cuts in 18mm or 25mm but spot on otherwise.
This is a great circular saw, it effortlessly cuts most timbers up to ½” thick, but the dust extraction is a major let down. A guy from Facebook even 3D printed me an adaptor, but even with that the dust went absolutely everywhere. I was cutting 8’ long multipanels (which are 11mm thick exterior ply with a laminated surface). The dust just got thrown all over the place. I resorted to using my Evolution mains powered machine, as that has much better dust extraction! Thanks for the comment 👍
The brushless version should be slightly more powerful and you should get longer runtime with the same AH battery, plus you don’t need to worry about replacing the brushes in a few year’s time. I have to say that the dust extraction on this saw is absolutely useless! It’s still a great saw though 👍
I can't say with 100% certainty, but I've cut plenty of chipboard worktops with it and 3/4" exterior ply with no problems. The dust extraction is absolutely useless though!
How have you found the batteries for Dewalts? I had a Makita drill and the batteries went into fault mode when I allowed them to discharge a few times making them useless. This is what puts me off cordless power tools generally in finding that it may be useless a few years later because of a dead battery.
The batteries are fine- so far. I have had issues with Milwaukee batteries when using their angle grinder, but the batteries were at least 6 years old. A few months back I borrowed my mates Makita cordless grinder and bought a 5AH battery. I have tested out Bosch, Dewalt and Milwaukee and they all performed well, but the Makita was very poor in comparison. Thanks for the comment

Not sure, I can use a circular saw like this with either hand, providing I don't plug in the vacuum. I used to get told off all the time at home, for putting the fork and knife in the wrong position 😂 I don't know if they make another version.

😂 I bought the Dewalt XR 18v chainsaw about two years back and have not used it once yet! I do have a petrol chainsaw, but I've lent it to one of my mates (can't remember which one). A few people have asked to borrow my chain saw, and when I've asked what they are cutting they have only been cutting branches that are up to 6 inches in diameter, so I normally lend them the reciprocating saw for that (much safer and much more versatile than a chain saw, and cheaper). Petrol chainsaws are great, if you have a lot to cut and will use it regularly. For occasional trimming I'd look at a reciprocating saw, or an electric chainsaw.
