    Thank you for the video. My 2015 GL450 is a total lemon. Malfunction after malfunction. Finding a reputable mechanic is almost impossible, and the dealership robs you when you take it to the for repairs. This is my first and last Mercedes.

      I believe all cars have the ability to be hit or miss with reliability. However, the gamble is greater with German cars. I had an 03 bmw 325 that over the course of 5 years of ownership I spent around $2k on maintenance and repairs. On the other hand, an 07 mini cooper S I bought just last year, I have spent more money in maintenance and repairs than I paid for it a year ago.

    This was the best video I found that gave step by step process on how to remove battery. Most important part that was very valuable was telling us to raise the seat and moving it forward. Thanks for the informative video.

    How do you know if you have to replace your auxiliary battery? Or should you just replace it at the same time?

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  11 месяцев назад +2

      From my experience, issues with the auxiliary battery normally show up as issues with locking and unlocking and the alarm. If you aren't having issues with that, I wouldn't worry about it

    If your battery is completely dead, how do you get the seat all the way forward to replace the battery? Also, the dealership told me that if I replaced the battery, I would probably need to reprogram the key. You didn't mention that. I hope not, since my dealer is almost 2 hours away!!😒

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  9 месяцев назад +1

      The only way to move the seat if the battery is completely dead would be to connect jumper cables from another vehicle to the jump point in the engine bay. I have never encountered a vehicle needing the key reprogrammed after the battery dies.

    How would you know it’s it’s the alternator or battery ?

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  6 месяцев назад

      Battery is charged by the alternator during normal driving. If the battery is going dead after a few days, even tho you are driving it regularly, it would most likely have a failing alternator. This usually will cause a battery light to come on while driving. However, if it has a large battery draw and you have a short commute, it would not be enough time for the alternator to restore what is being used while it is sitting.

    Hi I have a question. I just recently purchased one off the auction. Great condition but the battery needs replaced. I shut it off to get gas and had to jump the car to restore power. Would you suggest me changing the auxiliary battery as well as the main battery?

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  Год назад +1

      I have only ever had to replace that auxiliary battery on mercedes in my career. It was having issues where intermittently it wouldn't unlock with the remote. Turns out the auxiliary battery supplied power to the alarm module when the rest of the vehicle was asleep. I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't having any other issues other than it needing jump started.

    What a crap design! A battery belongs under the hood!! Not under a seat! For God sake! I have been having a slow reacting starter so if its my battery I will never be able to get to it!!

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  Год назад +1

      Agree with you that the battery should be someplace easier to reach. Most German cars put them in tough to reach areas. One of the upsides of putting them inside the vehicle is they are less prone to the temperature swings of the outside of the vehicle and the batteries tend to last longer. I've replaced a battery in a BMW that was 11 years old when it finally gave out. You won't normally see that life out of one placed in the engine compartment.

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  Год назад +1

      Also on the slow reacting starter, I had the same issue with this vehicle. Thought it was just battery or cable issues. It had the issue for about 5 years, then the starter went out. After replacing the starter that issue was no longer present. Just something to think about.

    • @hanosaurus1
      @hanosaurus1 Год назад

      @@MunkysGarage thanks for the reply. We just got home from the Mercedes-Benz repair shop. They said the starter wasn't the issue, it was the 10 year old original batteries. Found it it has a main battery and an auxiliary battery!!! I have no clue where that 2nd battery is! I hope they're right that it was just the old batteries..
