Phil, I have to say you are an absolutely amazing guitarist. Your guitar knowledge is comparable to the greats, such as Slash, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, and many others. You have a sense of humor that reminds me so much of my late father, who inspired me to pick up the electric guitar. On my 18th birthday, which is no more than 3 1/2 months away, I'm getting a Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Heritage Cherry Sunburst to honor his memory. Your musical talent shows me what I could do. Thank you.
@leejames1982 sorry you feel ripped off by this video but if you want to find out all about this Gibson SG, all you have to do is read the description. It tells you everything you want to know about this guitar and then you can listen to this video to hear what this guitar sounds like. That's what these videos are all about - hearing what each guitar sounds like - not an in depth lesson on the guitar. Or, you can call us or email us directly and we'll tell you all about the guitar.
It's obvious Phil has a great knowledge of guitar and music. The time he has put into it shows. His playing and singing is great and I find his guitar reviews entertaining and informative. You see a lot of characters on RUclips, but Phil seems real down to earth and not full of himself. Check out the Bon Jovi show where he "Philled" in(sorry, but I couldn't pass it up) for Richie Sambora. He did a great job. And definitely check out his band "The Drills".
Wanna fly like and eagle to the sea Fly like and eagle let my spirit carry me.. Seriously man everything you play sounds brilliant . These videos are really inspirational.
Good video, Phil and Frettedamericana. You're a big inspiration for me Phil, I have to keep on learning about guitar. I started reading about different chords some hours after I watched this video, I have to check more out.
I just watch most of these vids cause I am amazed at how many songs he knows, and how perfectly he plays them... this one I watched cause I have an SG though.
ohh man. i just bought a used Epi. G-400 but it shipped to my friend's house because i used his eBay. i can't wait to play it. i love SGs man. PHIL X FOREVER! WHOO YEAH!
Very good vid as always, Phil! :) Played an exactly like '64 SG standard in London. It was AMAZING! Nice and hot PAF's and sustain for days. I think '64 was a good year for the SG! :P
What's with everyone hating on Phil? He gives you the best demonstration of an axe, just how you'd jam on your own. And look at him, he's totally stoked to be doing this. Leave him be!
Does anybody else come to Phil X videos for new songs to learn cuz every video he plays a killer tune, like the Steve Miller one in this video. It's a pretty trippy song on the record.
@CCRockit i kind of have to say i agree with you. there are also some guitars perfect in sunburst, but it looks so wrong on others. although, tony iommis' black SG with the ultra black ebony fingerboard and cross inlays looks pretty fucking cool...
my bro right here hes good buds with this awesome guy who owns an awseome guitar store in missasauga but seriously i want to meet you phil x your unreal and have the sickest stage pressence which is where it counts
Man they played a CRUSHING version the other night at the gig, and I didn't have a camera with me!!! Camera man LOSER! I will get for ya next time though...
@brt927 That's a real shame, because i just managed to score a vintage kramer 650g. It's from the late 70s, made in USA and it was only $2150. And it plays better than any Fender, Gibson or Gretsch that i've ever played.
i dont have a twitter but i looked at phils and he said he was goin in to fa today and i would like to hear him play speed king by deep purple if you guys do any strats tommorow that would be awesome.
when he says: "i'm going to play this one in B" (or C), does that mean that when he's soloing he's doing it using all the B scales? B major, B minor, B minor pentatonic, etc?
@frettedamericana yeah, id rather hear the guitar than be bored to death about the quality of the inlays, and the neck type, and how high the action is and all the other stuff, thats for an individual to examine themselves when they go to pick up a guitar...
Phil can make any guitar sound good. Incredible display of knowledge, style, talent, and SERIOUS personality. Go Phil!!!

@iamthecodofhalo1 for advice like this, please send us an email to info@frettedamericana com
It does not matter if you're the best guitarist in the world, but how much you put into it.
i really like to see this guy reviews because is full of energy
He's so excited by everything!
I love Phil X. The guy is simply one of the most under rated guitarist and musicians of our time.
Phil's pics are holy!
@ianschecter course he does - the most amazing band called The Drills
That was an epic "Eighteen" lesson!!! Awsome!!!!

Phil really should do some Cream every time he plays a SG or LP also more Zeppelin!!
Thanks for flipping me off at 0:52 Phil. But seriously, I'm a fan of everything you do.
Was not expected to see a Seal cover in a FA video. Also first time I see Phil X teaching, he's an awesome teacher.
I would love to have a beer with this dude.
@frettedamericana Dude, i think it makes the vids even more amazing when i can actually learn something from phil x
Good video, Phil and Frettedamericana. You're a big inspiration for me Phil, I have to keep on learning about guitar. I started reading about different chords some hours after I watched this video, I have to check more out.

Both look and sound.
You're the best Phil!
ohh man. i just bought a used Epi. G-400 but it shipped to my friend's house because i used his eBay. i can't wait to play it.

60 to 72 SG's are the best mass produced axes ever made, including the SG Bodied Les Pauls
I love so much this "creamy" sound old SGs have ! It's just awesome !
MINE'S GOT A HOLE IN IT SO I CAN HOLD ON TO IT!
that's my favorite part...besides the SG and Phil.

I love this guy.
Does anybody else come to Phil X videos for new songs to learn cuz every video he plays a killer tune, like the Steve Miller one in this video. It's a pretty trippy song on the record.
Phil represents everything that a Disicple of Rock would, because he is of course (:
Welcome to the club haha! I doubt they hit the millions of views that they have because we can all afford to buy vintage guitars!
He is amazing.
I want him to be my teacher and guitarplaying would just be funfunfun! Great video!
He is extremely good.....
I bought an SG because of this video
@JuanluALF the song is Wipeout, by the Surfaris.
Phil X is the Bob Ross of video guitar playing
@CCRockit i kind of have to say i agree with you. there are also some guitars perfect in sunburst, but it looks so wrong on others.

Oh, so that's why he's so good at playing guitar, he got the pick of destiny!!
Thanks!!!
Shit this guy is awesome, I wish he was my tutor. Nice tone in your fingers by the way.
@igorawrofficial He was giving us the finger for about 7 seconds. But when Phil X gives you the middle finger, YOU EMBRACE IT
what is the name of the song in the beginning? it sounds great.
Loving his shirt
I have a 1960's sg/es paul custom. I have it in one of my vids. You should check youtube for one. they sound gorgeous.

when he says: "i'm going to play this one in B" (or C), does that mean that when he's soloing he's doing it using all the B scales? B major, B minor, B minor pentatonic, etc?
@frettedamericana yeah, id rather hear the guitar than be bored to death about the quality of the inlays, and the neck type, and how high the action is and all the other stuff, thats for an individual to examine themselves when they go to pick up a guitar...
