He liked the rockabilly sound of "Only the Lonely", which inspired his take on, "When You're Only Lonely".

I wish folks didn't keep confusing this as a remake of Roy Orbison's much older, but equally as lovely hit song.
@GlendaClarke-ir2cd yup. JD actually wrote this to pitch to Roy, but Roy turned it down. I think that’s how it went!! Great song in any event.
