J D co-wrote Best of My Love, Heartache Tonight, New Kid in Town and Victim Of Love made famous by The Eagles and The Heart of the Matter made famous by Don Henley.
Both JD and Jackson Browne were kind of "unofficial" members of the Eagles. They all lived together when they were young, wrote songs together and hung out with the same people.
JD worked with many great artists and was able to call in some favors for this song. The harmonies were performed by Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers, Jackson Browne, along with Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Don Felder of The Eagles. Great song.
JD had one of the best voices of the 1970’s though was known more for his songwriting and backup singing to some of the most famous artists of the 1970’s like James Taylor, the Eagles and Dan Fogelberg.
He does an awesome duet with James Taylor on Our Town. Only underrated by the listening audience, he was the go to guy if you wanted a hit song written for you.
Tears on my face... this song reminds me of my daughter... I delivered her (under Dr supervision), watched her being crowned homecoming queen and was holding her hand when she passed away at age 22... her friends had walked away from her because of her illness...I so miss her...
I've heard this style described as "Tex-Mex" incorporating elements of Southwestern USA and Mexican music. I love watching your faces and your eyes as you're hearing these songs -- songs that I've lived with most of my long life -- for the first time. You guys are the real deal and I appreciate what you're doing.
J D Souther is one of my favorite artists. And his vocals on this song just gives me chills. So beautiful, so haunting. Thank you for reacting to this.
RIP, dear J. D. Souther. He passed today, September 18th, 2024. One of the great singer/songwriters of the past 60 years. This song was an homage to Roy Orbison and the music of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Released in 1979, this was one of two hits that J. D. Souther had as a singer. The other was a duet with James Taylor.
This song (one my absolute favorites) is from around 1979 or so, although it has a 1950's rock & roll sound with some soft rock, perhaps a touch of jazz, at least that's what I hear in it. Maybe a bit of country, too.
Loved your reactions to this song....Heard it on xm radio in the car the other night and now can't stop watching this moving video and you cannot just be still watching and listening you just have to sway to the music, it's magical, makes you want to dance....love it!
At the end his voice goes right through you! He was quite a talent and will be missed. Check out his other hits and his duet with James Taylor, his "New Kid In Town" all fantastic he's only been around for almost 50 years.
Always loved this ! .. So mellow, sweet and melodic .. I don't think he had any other big hits as a singer, but he was a very successful songwriter for other artists such as the Eagles .. Great reaction too .. Asia is quite a sensitive and compassionate person, and really tuned into the meaning of this song.
What a wonderful artist JD Souther is. I highly recommend you react to the song he did with James Taylor “Her Town”, and his duet with Linda Ronstadt “Hearts Against The Wind”❤
I found you two with this song…one of my earliest memories of songs on the radio…and one of my favorites for reminiscing ❤ Thank you for the thoughtful view from young listeners…I’m Gen Z and this song is the 70’s for me👍🏻✨
This song came out in 1979 and echoes Roy Orbison's song "Only the Lonely" (1960); thus the "throwback" sound. Listen to Roy's tune and you'll see the original source for this JD Souther ode...
70s. He worked with a lot of 70s artists who recorded his stuff. He lived downstairs from two of the Eagles before they were in the Eagles. Good friends with Linda Rondstat
Great song choice and loved both your reactions. Not sure anyone mentioned it but JD was a backup singer on the Roy Orbison Black & White special with a who's who of music also supporting cast.
Asia is right. Some of us don't have a spouse, significant other or friends. At least people I would actually call a friend. People don't really know what it means to be a friends anymore. The term is used too loosely as people saying I love you. I've been lonely and alone for years. For the most part, I'm busy enough to not think about it. There are times I have nothing to do or want to go do something with someone and there is no one to call. No one to talk to you or lean on. That's why I have to constantly stay busy from the time I wake up until I go to bed so I don't have time to think about being alone and lonely because if I think about it too long, it hurts.
So sorry to hear that AJ. I also am alone, the two really close friends I had to lean on have passed, both much younger than I am. So yeah it gets really lonely at times, but these music reactions help feel connected somewhat.
I'll add this, even if you have friends, you can still be lonely. Friends do help, but for the most part, they have their families to get back to and there you are-lonely
AJ you sound just like me, I am 74 and my wife died long ago. all my friend s have died or moved, some I gave up on because they really only cared for themselves. No one calls, no one cares. I just dont see the point in it anymore.
Some people don't realize what it means to be truly lonely. I think they throw around the word, just like some throw around the word love. It is definitely true that these words mean far too little to some. In these days of the pandemic, it's become all too clear just how deep loneliness can be. Thank god for people like Asia and BJ where you can at least turn to lose yourself in the beauty of music for awhile
1979. Was a weird year for music. You had the impending doom of disco going the way of the dinosaur, country music starting to go back to its roots. And you have a song lime this which is such a mix of styles. Old school pop ala Roy orbinson, and it could have been played from the late 50s thru the 60s. Yet it's 1979. There are a few singer/ songwriter that don't care about genre or where to fit in and JT was one of those. A good song is a good song. No matter the genre.
This song does have a Doo Wop street corner singing feel and it's from the 80s. Thanks, I needed this. You have to hear his song, "Black Roses White Rhythm and Blues" from the same album. Harmony by Phil Everly.
Such a shame this was the only hit JD had. He wrote a ton of songs for others, like the Eagles, but his own recordings didn’t do much. You can hear various members of the Eagles singing and playing on this one. I really loved that wonderful piano, by Don Grolnick. He was a jazz musician, composer, and producer, as well as an in-demand session player who can be heard on many famous artists’ recordings. This song came out in 1979. It was not recorded by Roy Orbison, though it is reminiscent of his style. Raul Malo of the Mavericks did a very nice cover in 2006.
1979 20-pound speaker in the window at the drive in with a sweet-smelling new date, a bag of popcorn, some PBR in the trunk, and this song playing just loud enough to be heard over the misquotes buzzing in the window.
This is the original version but if you guys really like harmonies I think you guys would like the newest version of this song by the group Brotherly Love!! Do a reaction to that one!
I’ve seen three of your videos. The first one BJ was wearing a Yankee cap. The second one, he was wearing a Braves cap. Now he’s sporting an Astros cap. Ride with a winner, those stros kicked some a$$, yep they did. My favorite team is anybody playing the Yankees.😂😂
I'm pretty sure you guys have covered some of those live Elvis Presley shows from Vegas where he has the huge band and the choirs and the black women in the Sweet Inspirations. Well, JD Souther heads up the male choir and he's mostly known for his record setting low bass voice. And yet on this he demonstrates a beautiful fairly high Roy Orbison type range and a beautiful falsetto. I had no idea he could sing up in that register! And he doesn't sing bass on this anywhere at all, wild.
Tge only movie I can think of that cones close to BJ's plotting is called THE HEAVENLY KID. A light comedy about a greater in the 6o's who dies and comes back to help someone. It's not quite the story BJ was spinning but close enough. If you take the story BJ tells, add Asia as the girlfriend. And have him look over her as she tries to move on. And find a way to come back to life, even if it is temporary. Give BJ a leather jacket, white socks, some black Chuck Taylor Converse, give him a hot rod, and the funny part will his slick backed hair, the cue this song, WHEN YOU'RE ORLY LONELY over the credits and pass the magazines. Meanwhile, you guys need to watch and pay tribute to the late Sidney Poitier. As the first black actor to win the Academy Award he deserves some attention. Films I recommend are, A PATCH OF BLUE TO SIR, WITH LOVE & a western he did called, BUCK AND THE PREACHER. I just saw your reaction to Tombstone and thought you might like this movie. Enjoy
J D co-wrote Best of My Love, Heartache Tonight, New Kid in Town and Victim Of Love made famous by The Eagles and The Heart of the Matter made famous by Don Henley.
You can hear Glenn Frey-type of energy here (who JD worked with) - song always makes me tear up!
And Bob Seger contributed to Heartache Tonight. What a group of talented musicians.
@@laurakali6522 yes, yes indeed!
I so wish they could react to those Eagles songs. Those are some of my favorites of all time. But we all know they'd get blocked.
Both JD and Jackson Browne were kind of "unofficial" members of the Eagles. They all lived together when they were young, wrote songs together and hung out with the same people.
Phil Everly, Jackson Browne, and 3 of the Eagles singing background...Whoa!
Oh, JD's sweet voice. This is one of my all-time favorites.
JD worked with many great artists and was able to call in some favors for this song. The harmonies were performed by Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers, Jackson Browne, along with Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Don Felder of The Eagles. Great song.
I love this song so much...everybody gets lonely...everybody!!
Very true. Sometimes so lonely it hurts.
JD was an underappreciated collaborator with many top acts of the 1970s.
💯 Exactly!!
He had a big influence on The Eagles
JD had one of the best voices of the 1970’s though was known more for his songwriting and backup singing to some of the most famous artists of the 1970’s like James Taylor, the Eagles and Dan Fogelberg.
His duet with James Taylor "Her Town Too" is also very good. Oh, and Jackson Brown and 3 members of Eagles were doing the background.
One of the most underrated singers ever. They way he sung “Smoke gets in your eyes” from the soundtrack of the movie Always was incredible.
He does an awesome duet with James Taylor on Our Town. Only underrated by the listening audience, he was the go to guy if you wanted a hit song written for you.
My apologies, it's "Her town too".
I think they should do a reaction video on the the official video of James Taylor and JD.
He has a soothing voice. Very dreamy and passionate.
JD Souther wrote many songs with the Eagles. I remember buying the single record 45, at age 15. I love it and that piano 😱
Tears on my face... this song reminds me of my daughter... I delivered her (under Dr supervision), watched her being crowned homecoming queen and was holding her hand when she passed away at age 22... her friends had walked away from her because of her illness...I so miss her...

Loneliness becomes a friend, when you walk with it long enough.

Loved it then, love it now.❤
Great song. It's like a combo of country and 50s music
he used to run with the Eagles & Jackson Browne....has cowritten a ton of hits for others...very underrated...
I love Asia's compassion for people.
This song (one my absolute favorites) is from around 1979 or so, although it has a 1950's rock & roll sound with some soft rock, perhaps a touch of jazz, at least that's what I hear in it. Maybe a bit of country, too.

I have always loved this song think it is from 1979 I was 14 and it still has the same effect~! Y'all are awesome!
Loved this song since I was a kid on the 70’s- another 45 record I had- 😂BJ Killin’ me! When can we expect the show/movie to premier?! Lol 💝❤️
At the end his voice goes right through you! He was quite a talent and will be missed. Check out his other hits and his duet with James Taylor, his "New Kid In Town" all fantastic he's only been around for almost 50 years.
RIP JD 🙏 he was under rated and ignored but such a beautiful talent.

He did a beautiful duet with James Taylor, Her Town Too. Asia and BJ should check that one out too
@@RReneeS That's a very good song 👍
This song was from 1979 , I was a senior in high school 😁
RIP JD Souther, Sept. 17 2024. Terrific songwriter. Connected with some of the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt's biggest tunes.
Thank you guys I absolutely love this song!
The band members include three of The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and one of the Everly Brothers.
Just another great singer/Songwriter from the great city of Detroit! Love it!
Hearing this song makes me feel like I'm back in my senior year high school class of 1979!

Great songwriter. He wrote a whole bunch of Eagles tunes.
Based on Roy Orbison "Only the Lonely" JD is a big fan of Roy.
His voice and style are very reminiscent of the late great Roy Orbison. ♥️✌🏼😎
My wife just recently left me and this song literally knocked me to my knees and I just bawled like a baby!!!
Love,love, love this song.
Great song choice and loved both your reactions. Not sure anyone mentioned it but JD was a backup singer on the Roy Orbison Black & White special with a who's who of music also supporting cast.
I had the pleasure of interviewing JD a few years ago. Great songwriter, but a wonderful story teller & guest
This is one of my favorite songs that reminds me of my very first crush…
this is one of my favorite songs
I love you two. You're the best.
Such a beautiful song. I remember hearing this when I was very young.
Man this took me back!!! lol havent heard it in forever...its def doo wop inspired recorded in the late 70's!!
I've always loved this song!!

JD was damn near an Eagle and helped them write many songs....

Great singer songwriter, and a longtime boyfriend of Linda Ronstadt back in the day.
You guys are awesome! God bless you.
OMG I had this 45, lol, how old i feel. Love the Piano piece in this.
I love how BJ had this whole image in his mind of what this might look like as a soundtrack! 😄 Good music has the power to set a scene like that.
Beautiful Song!! His yodeling in the end?.... Chef's Kiss!!
Great song. Never knew the artists name to this song. Reminds me of Roy Orbison.
I had that feeling immediately. It is similar, musically and thematically.
RIP JD Souther....
REST IN PEACE
J.D.
Dude, I'd go see that movie
Great great song .... one of the best songwriters ever
Nice one here!! Good memories again, thanks guys, you're awesome!!!

Asia and BJ do a great job. On this and all of their videos.
ROY ORBISON INSPIRED SONG, FROM HIS HIT ONLY THE LONELY. JD SOUTHER BACKED HIM ON THE BLACK AND WHITE VIDEO.
This song was made 44 years ago...timeless!
Beautiful Song. ❤️

I believe this song came out in 1979 if I remember correctly.
Great slow dance song 🎵 👌 👍👍👍
One of my all time favorite songs
i love it! if your body isn't moving side to side when this song is playing at least! you did not grasp it!

Some fun trivia, J D , played Whitey White on the series Nashville.
Like the 60's melody and the voice of Roy Orboson
Check out the Raul Malo version--he has such a fantastic voice!
The guy can sing.
Yes
Check out him and James Taylor do a song called "Her town". Great harmonies!
Asia was right on in her assessment of this one...astute and looking good too...
The guy on your thumbnail playing the guitar with the smoke from his cigarette is Dave Mason (a great musician who was part of the band Traffic)

It's from 1979, but it's definitely in a fifties or early sixties style.
Check out My Town Too by James Taylor and J.D. Souther.
