I had a second marriage at age 52 I knew I did not want a WHITE "cake topper" wedding dress, but I also did not want a suit or a cocktail dress. I looked EVERYWHERE and was will ing to pay a lot of money for the right dress. NOTHING.... NADA... NOPE... I was in a Goodwill and my son spotted a dress on display. IT was everything I was looking for! It turned out to be my size.. I tried it on and it was perfect. It was tea length (just above my ankles) Ecru lace, empire waist, The only thing I tweeked were the sleeves that were originally floppy and loose. I gathered the fabric into a puffed sleeve and it worked out great. The Tag said $15.00 and I was ore than happy to pay that. However when I got to the checkout the dress had the Color of the Week tag and I got it for 50% off!! LOL I spent a grand total of $7.50 for my dress!! LOL Everyone loved the dress!
I thrifted my wedding dress! It was a new dress, the thrift shop was located across from a bridal shop and they brought the floor models over there. So no one ever wore the dress I bought! It had a long train and so I took it across the street to the original bridal shop and had them hem the train off and tailor it to me. Total cost with tailoring was under $150! The dress was originally almost 2k.
B Villa I'm glad they didn't throw it away like most stores do. I hope wedding dress stores don't throw them out. GameStop throws out $400 game systems and Victoria's Secret throws out clothes.
I was engaged and shopping at goodwill, and was not at all looking for my wedding dress I was just shopping and came across my perfect dress it fit my body perfectly I didnt need to get it altered at all.. I tried it on and all these people in the store was telling me how gorgeous it looked!! but I know God sent me my man then my dress...it was only $100!!!!Its been 7 years since I got married and I love my hubby more then ever and I still love that wedding dress!!❤
The last dress was my favorite. You seem to really like the mesh hi neck dresses, but honestly, if the last one would have fit, I think if you cut the mesh upper part, staying only with the lower neckline, it would haved looked amazing on you! And yes for a wedding dress thrifting series!!!
That last one is lovely, kind of reminds me of my mums wedding dress, she married dad in 76 and that style was ALLL the rage; very floaty and ethereal!
I think the second dress would have been AMAZING if the shower cap sleeves were either removed completely, or altered into more of like a mini cap sleeve maybe?
The second dress was really pretty on you! its probably cheap enough to get the shower caps removed and sleeves added. Perhaps made out of the extra train material?
I thrifted my wedding dress pattern and then had a friend make me the dress. I bought the fabric and total spent was $25 as my friend gifted me the labor to have the dress made. There are definitely thrifty ways to have a custom wedding dress ❤
I thrifted my wedding dress. $15 for a dress originally from the 80s, short and flowy, thick lace that hung well and didn't make me worry about flying away, sleeves to my elbows which covered the area that made me the least comfortable about gaining weight before my wedding. I didn't know what I wanted, but it was so comfortable and easy to wear, and that was everything that I wanted. And I wanted used for environmental and economical reasons, so it ticked all the boxes.
I got married last year and when I went to the dress shop to try on dresses I thought I knew exactly what I wanted but I ended up falling in love with one that wasn’t what I thought would suit me. I also wasn’t bothered about a train or veil but once I’d put the veil on and the train was laid out properly I was speechless. My veil went down my back not over my face and was cathedral length. The photos of my dress and veil laid out look stunning. I’d say try on lots of different styles and veils because you might be surprised what you end up loving!!! Plus you’re only doing this once so you might as well go all out!!
Everyone is different but with a train it adds that bridal touch/look to it. My seamstress chopped my train off last min without telling me and I just really wish I had that train. Also once the ceremony is over, you can bussle the train so it doesn't drag anymore.
Most trains have a small silk wristlet that you can put on your wrist and it hold the entire train up. I had one on my wedding dress and when you're holding it it makes it look effortless and like your train was never there
I used to work at Rue de Seine and their trains all have dancing loops so you can hold the train or put it round your wrist while you dance, plus it's so your style! 🌹 I definitely hope you continue this series though, you never know what you might find!
I thrifted my wedding dress and it was perfect!!! It was a high necked crocheted bodiced, and chiffon 1960's gown. It fit my vintage style and my size perfectly!!! It was $16.00 at St. Vincent de Paul's Peterborough (now Vinne's), in 1996. No regrets, whatsoever!!!
You will look so cool and beautiful in a flowing, boho style vintage dress, with flowers in your hair.......I'm sure with your eye you will find a unique, beautiful thrifted dress. Really fun video, can't wait for more x
The train you can add loops or buttons to the back to hold the train During reception also, the sleeves can be taken off and turned into a more likable sleeve like a flutter sleeve or a cap sleeve
Just so you know, pretty much all dresses with trains get a bustle added to them which is like a pretty little way to pick it up and clip it to the back so you don’t have to worry about it getting dirty, stepping on it, dancing or anything else. So don’t rule out a train because it’s impractical because you can just clip it up and you have a normal length dress! And it looks gorgeous walking down the aisle and for photos
Even new dresses have to be altered and hemmed. So don't let that throw you when you are picking out a dress.. also you can have a train, they make a button loop, or a bustle that you hook the train to after the wedding, so that the train is tucked up and the hemline is even, so you aren't dragging it around. It's super easy to deal with, and most dresses (especially second hand) will already have the pick-up built in, you just have to find it.. Good luck with the dress shopping. ;)
In AZ there’s a nonprofit bridal boutique that sells used dresses and the money combats local sex trafficking and exploitation. If any of you are looking for a used dress, you should check them out! They have an Etsy shop with beautiful vintage dresses if you don’t live anywhere near Tucson AZ. They’re called Free Ever After!!!!
My sister had a summer wedding. She got her wedding dress at a department store, it was a sundress but it was all white and lacy and she only spent 30 dollars on it. I definitely think that you dont have to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that you're going to wear once. Thrifting dresses is great!
Whether you find something or not, this is such a good process to find out what you like! Better than with the new because you get more critical less willing to settle !
With some sewing or the help of a seamstress some of those would be stunning. You want it tailored to fit your body perfectly. With a train you walk the Isle with that and for the reception you have it bustled, a seamstress can do that and it looks amazing. Mine was bustled.
I love the idea of a thrifted wedding dress. The last dress was my favorite but with the sleeves from a fashion perspective you have two sleeves going on and it doesn't look great. Tasha if you were to go with the bell sleeve(witch would be totally you) I would remove the cuff sleeve so that the bell would be free and flowy or if you went with a tight aline sleeve I would remove the bell because the double sleeve right now isn't working . I would also take the neck line down to under the caller bone. That's what I would do if I was styling a custom wedding dress for you out of that one
I'm not even close to being married so I've never needed to look for one, but I once found a beautiful lace dress in a thrift store and literally just bought it on the spot! it doesn't fit me perfectly but I'm planning on using the top part of it (it's a long sleeve, high neck lace overlay that reaches my waist, so it's fairly easily removable) over my actual dress and then I want to use the lace train as my veil as well 😍
Love this idea! I think you would definitely succeed in vintage shops that specialize in dresses but I love this more challenging approach. Love that last one so much, I wonder what would happen if you take it to be tailored and have the top turned into a Bardot neckline.
Just to make sure there aren't misconceptions on the wedding dress train, or the material that drags on the floor and flows behind some wedding dresses: Many wedding dresses have trains. You can get them removed by a tailor. HOWEVER, if you go to a wedding dress tailor or a competent dress tailor, they bustle the train, which means they create a system for the dress that allows the train to be long and ceremonial during the wedding ceremony (the moment when the bride walks towards the groom at the altar and says her vows). The bustle then ties up the train and creates this really pretty bunched or pleated pattern in the back so that the train doesn't drag on the floor anymore or get in the way while you are dancing. Many wedding dresses, my own included, have this feature, so having a train isn't a compromise between having a dirty dress and not being able to dance. Usually during the moment when you are walking to the altar, you would have your entourage or bridesmaids help you maneuver the train over any areas that would get it dirty if there are any. If you are in an indoor venue this isn't usually an issue. Then your bridesmaids bustle the train and put the dress into the party form that allows you to dance! This is also when brides take of their veils, as obviously veils could often get in the way of dancing and are also usually only used for the ceremony.
I bought my wedding dress for my vow renewal for $1 on a Thursday at goodwill. My niece loves say yes to the dress and we bought her 3 dresses new with tags for $7 each. One had a tag for $679
I wished I had found my wedding dress at a thrift store. But , I mostly just found 80s styles. I finally found my wedding dress on line from freepeople. I hope you find your dream wedding dress.
One way you can "thrift" a wedding dress is to find a dress you like and look for the same or similar dresses in sample sales or on second hand dress sites and ebay. It might not be super cheap but it will be less expensive than boutique prices.
I work at a wedding dress shop and what most people dont realize is that almost every single wedding gown has to be altered to fit the bride properly, even when you are buying your size. If you are buying a thrifted dress you'd probably just have to do more alterations, like not only hemming the dress to the correct length but also removing the sleeves you dont like and replacing them with ones that you do!
Honestly I didn’t hate your pick!!! I think if the sequins and beading was removed on the actual dress and the sleeves were changed to be long lace it would look amazing!
I thrifts my wedding dress and had to revamp it to make it more modern. I loved the second dress. If you took the sleeves off that dress would be so unique.
Just last Saturday I went to a Goodwill I hadn't been to in years and found a STUNNING Maggie Sottero wedding dress 😍 I couldn't believe it! It was only $10!! It was altered for a size 2-4 from a size 8 so I didnt buy it but my gosh it was beautiful! Loved this video!! I love to thrift shop, I call it "treasure hunting"😂
There should be a hook or loop at the center bottom edge of the train -- it hooks to the back of your waist to form a bustle - so you don't have to drag it around during the reception. If there's no hook or loop there, that's an EASY fix.
I actually got my wedding dress off of Etsy just based off photos. Thankfully it fit! I made a few alterations, and it was my dream dress! Plus you couldn't beat a $150 wedding dress :)
Dress 4 with the sleeves was lovely. You could cut the mesh part at the top off and eliminate that uncomfortable high neck. It an off the shoulder floral trim that would have given you the nice neckline that you liked in the first one. The whole bare neck and shoulders contrasting with long sleeves would be a very sexy-sweet look, which if you don't mind me saying so would suit you to a tee.
I thrifted my wedding dress. I got a $1600 dress for $600. I didn’t really have that much to spend but my husband took me to find the dress. And he picked it and said that’s the one and he paid for it. I had not thought about that in a while. So glad I married my best friend. In the many years we have been married we has never had a cross word. Love him so much. I wish you that kind of happiness. Leslye
Cabin Life at Eden Springs I loved reading this, thanks for sharing. Your happiness is something I hope to have too! And you can’t beat those savings! Wow!
I have a friend of mine who bought a wedding dress at goodwill on impulse one day! Her and her husband didn’t have the big white wedding they just had a couple witnesses and were married by her father in his church! The idea is to surprise her husband and have the big white wedding they didn’t get to have before
I liked the lace dress and you shouldn't write off a train. With a few quick adjustments a seamstress can install a bustle for you that makes it easy to go from ceremony to party. :)
Yaaaay girl!!!!! You are both so gorgeous and lovely women!!!! My daughter graduates from grade 8 next year and she hopes to thrift her dress too!!!! Come down to london and thrift with us !!! Lol xoxooxoxox
I thridted my original wedding dress but ended up gaining weight and not fitting in it. Sold the dress which I paid 8.00 for, for a whopping 75 dollars which paid for my second dress which I loved so much more. People spend thousands on dresses and usually donate them at some point anyways save your money always thrift 😍
I love the idea of something *different* on the wedding dress, the only thing is that the extra sleeve kinda covered the intricate details, (just an opinion)
I had a second marriage at age 52 I knew I did not want a WHITE "cake topper" wedding dress, but I also did not want a suit or a cocktail dress. I'm glad they didn't throw it away like most stores do. I hope wedding dress stores don't throw them out. GameStop throws out $400 game systems and Victoria's Secret throws out clothes.
there's something so much more special about watching someone try on thrifted wedding dresses. I don't know why, it's just so sweet to me

I think thrifting a wedding gown is so awesome! You can find vintage. Also, alterations can always be done. Oh please keep looking it’s so cool.

SweetieSuz this is such a good idea!
Aim for a 70's thrifted dress tasha. Can't wait to see what you pick

Desi is gorgeous and her bone structure is EVERYTHING!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@lissa 144 Are you on crack?!??
Love that you're so open minded about thrifting a dress!
OMG HECK YES! Man I saw a wedding dress on $1 Thursday at goodwill and its just crazy what a great price you can get!
You will look so cool and beautiful in a flowing, boho style vintage dress, with flowers in your hair.......I'm sure with your eye you will find a unique, beautiful thrifted dress. Really fun video, can't wait for more x

I loved the first one if it had fitted : (. The simple off shoulder style looked amazing on you and that cuff detail ....WOW...
SERIES PLS love seeing two besties thrift!
I absolutely love the 4th dress. It just didn’t fit right but it’s what I see you wearing. Something hippiish.
You’re literally glowing.... I love you.... we stan an engaged thrifting queen 🙌🏼

Just to make sure there aren't misconceptions on the wedding dress train, or the material that drags on the floor and flows behind some wedding dresses:

My Niece thrifted hers, had a seamstress work on it and she was magnificent in it!
And I’m over here thinking 🤔 💭 I wonder who the bride was? And I envision her day and everything …………I have no life😂
I'm so jealous because I think that this dress is absolutely beautiful.
The second choice minus the sleeves and a material ring strategically placed on the triangle so it hooks on a finger to walk and dance. Good luck!
Those dresses with big puffy shoulders are 80’s dresses not 70’s dresses. The last dress is a seventies dress.
)i wore puff sleeves to my 70's prom it was juliet sleaves
I wished I had found my wedding dress at a thrift store. But , I mostly just found 80s styles. I finally found my wedding dress on line from freepeople. I hope you find your dream wedding dress.

I see you with. Shock of color, like a pop of sunflower or something. Exciting to try.
I thrifts my wedding dress and had to revamp it to make it more modern. I loved the second dress. If you took the sleeves off that dress would be so unique.
Lots of weddings dresses there at your thrift stores here therr usually 1 or 2 per store or zero
THIS IS THE CONTENT I SUBBED FORRRRR
LOVE. THIS. was waiting patiently for your wedding vlogs!!!
Loved this vid!! and Desi looks like Jessi Smiles hahha!
i want these rose chairs you´re sitting on at the beginning
I think the first one would’ve been really pretty fun it actually fit
I was kinda bummed you didn't buy the last one to maybe create your own with mulitiple dresses.
There should be a hook or loop at the center bottom edge of the train -- it hooks to the back of your waist to form a bustle - so you don't have to drag it around during the reception. If there's no hook or loop there, that's an EASY fix.
So excited about this, I think it's amazing that you're doing this! Really hope that you find a thrifted wedding dress that you love 💛
I actually got my wedding dress off of Etsy just based off photos. Thankfully it fit! I made a few alterations, and it was my dream dress! Plus you couldn't beat a $150 wedding dress :)

THAT LAST WEDDING DRESS!!!!! if I send you money will you send it to me 😂😂
the second dress was so beautiful im shookend
Damn, what Goodwill is that?? Everything looks so much nicer than my local ones! Especially the furniture. I would've snatched those pink chairs up!
That second one tho 🤩🤩🤩
I think the off the shoulder design looked really good
I love this!! Can't wait for the next one!
I got my dress from a wedding dress consignment shop! Can’t wait to wear it in a month!!
The idea is to surprise her husband and have the big white wedding they didn’t get to have before
The fourth dress was amazing on you and so you loved it♥♥♥
Yes! Love this! Please do more! 😍
Trains usually have a wrist strap toput on that picks the train up to dance
I liked the lace dress and you shouldn't write off a train. With a few quick adjustments a seamstress can install a bustle for you that makes it easy to go from ceremony to party. :)
Check out Play it Again Val's in Ajax, they aren't a thrift shop but do bridal consignment. 🙂
Thank you so much for the suggestion!!!
I love that lace dress you picked
I love the idea of getting a thrifted dress then getting it changed at a dressmaker and made exactly what you want
Not sure if there everywhere but in AZ we have a goodwill that just sells formal wear/wedding dresses.
You can always bustle your train for walking and dancing ❤️
I had a train and tailoring adds buttons so you can pull the train up and it’s not in the way.
The 2nd dress might work if you remove the sleeves and necklace part.
This is crazy, I came after 4 years, watched the video again, and had the same thought about the 2nd dress.... lol
There are 2 GORGEOUS wedding dresses at a thrift store near me that I want so bad and I just wanna buy both of them and keep them for the future haha
*i love this series*
The beaded neck lines and the mesh dress that looked like skin is a definite on you it really looked nice
Got my wedding dress at a thrift store for 5 bucks :) predated 1911, so it fit into my Victorian wedding perfectly!
Maybe try a used wedding dress website? They have tons of styles and they are usually more affordable.
Yaaaay girl!!!!! You are both so gorgeous and lovely women!!!! My daughter graduates from grade 8 next year and she hopes to thrift her dress too!!!! Come down to london and thrift with us !!! Lol xoxooxoxox
Sooo. Fun💕 can’t wait to see what you pick! 😊
Haha hitting up my local goodwill! Never thought I'd see that one on RUclips!
I actually love the second dress 😂 i would lower the sweetheart neckline a bit and remove the sleeves !
I love the idea of something *different* on the wedding dress, the only thing is that the extra sleeve kinda covered the intricate details, (just an opinion)
I loved the first one off the shoulder and the long sleeves, even though it didn’t fit I still think that one looked the best. 😊
Girl! Check out Six Pence Bridal Studio in Guelph!! Second-hand, pristine, pre-loved. Such a great second hand option :)
Minus the sleeves you could work with the 2nd dress
I really like the 2nd one minus the puff sleeves
