Best review of the Bosch router I've seen. Subed
Welcome :)
*I absolutely love this tool!!! The first one was defective and Dewalt replaced **MyBest.Tools** More bulky than the Bosch and Makita corded palm routers I have but worth it. Nice solid base*
It’s amazing just how versatile that small Makita is. I use it for all manner of work alongside the bigger routers and find it indispensable.
I have the Makita with the full base set and use 5 amp batteries. Super machine for most jobs. I am still looking to get a Festool simply to keep down the mess but sometimes a cordless router is the perfect tool for the job.
Hello fellow tool aficionado. Yes the larger amp hour batteries discharge at a noticeably higher rate, and this is true with all cordless tools. I use cordless tools for just about everything that I do while working in the field. No I am not a farmer.
I use a Ridgid cordless trim router now and am waiting for the release of the Dewalt to be able to use with their plunge base as your Makita can. My Dewalt cordless hand planner is sweet when doctoring doors in 100 + year old houses.
Loving your patreon vids. Thanks Andy!
Milwaukee 18v 5.0ah and 2.0ah doesn’t change power like the 12v Bosch
That's surprising. The Ridgid 2ah and 4ah batteries change the router slightly. I use the Milwaukee 18v 10 inch sliding miter saw and the Fuel Sawzall but only have 9ah batteries.
Bigger batteries are always gonna be better as they are wired in parallel so you get much more current to the tools. It is well documented as they can't increase the capacity of the cells so they just add more packs.
Its odd as I have lots of different ah batteries on lots of tools.. this is the only one that changes the power in this way . the other just last longer .
@@ManorWood yea, you need to know the make up of the battery and understand what was available at the time. Most batteries use the 18650 cell or the bigger 27650. They have a max capacity so the only way you can double the batteries capacity is double the cells in parallel. As soon as you double the cells like this, the tool can draw off of what is basically 2 batteries and that makes a big difference. I have DeWalt 2ah, 4ah and 6ah batteries and the difference on the 6ah is massive. Some things will just get longer run time but most will get higher torque such as my impact driver and drills. There are lots of videos on YT about it. If you have something that needs better performance, the biggest battery is likely to help. Hope this helps.
I have the boch router and it is amazining to round of corners, because of the big base
I hope Bosch do an 18v router at some point as that is the brand I have gone with for my other cordless tools. I don't like to stick to brands, but when it comes to cordless, it kind of makes sense to.
Me too , but I couldn’t wait any longer I don’t really like all different changer but that’s life . Maybe festool will bring one out soon ...
The planer is great , I got the pair a few months back and like both. That was quite a deep cut you were doing with the template I'm sure the usual 3 or 4 mm depth for hinges and face plates would be fine. I can see why you did it though, to test
Yes this was just to show the power really. It was deeper than a hinge rebate . But when I make templates out of 12mm MDF I take deeper passes like you see here
The Makita cordless planer is a very good bit of kit, recently replaced my 240 Makita planer and haven't looked back
Much better working without a cord :)
I have several Bosch 12V tools but haven't gotten the bigger rectangle base batteries. Having to get a 6ah 12V battery effectively raises the cost of the unit by $90 to get the most out of it. I wish I had a way to try it out.
I've been looking at the Makita as well but wasn't sure whether to go cordless. I think you just made my mind up
Thank you so much for this comparison! I had no idea the 6ah battery would give the bosch a power boost. I love the bosch for edge treatments.
I won't.
@@rich3633 Larger capacity batteries are capable of higher discharge rates, which directly translates to higher current. A larger capacity battery will absolutely be able to delivery higher current to the motor, even if the exact same cells are in the battery.
@@RobertCowanDIYhow/ why does that work?
@@rich3633 You can think of any number of analogies, a bigger bucket can pour water faster, more lanes in a highway can support more cars even if they're moving at the same speed, etc. Batteries (like these) are just made of up cells, usually 18650 or similar. They are normally 3.7V, so you need 3 of them to make ~12V. In the bigger batteries, there are 6 of them, so it's 2 sets of 3 in parallel. So you basically just have more cells dumping current into the tool. Each cell can discharge at the same rate, but if you have double the cells, you get a higher discharge. It's neat stuff! But in general, if the motor can handle higher current, a bigger battery will generally provide better performance. This is most seen with impact guns, but routers fall into that category too!
@@RobertCowanDIY I just did some reading. It does seem that you may get more power as to maintain the needed amperage, at the specified tool voltage, the more cells you have the less they have to work in order to deliver that power so can discharge that power a bit quicker. Cheers for the comment, I'm always keen to become less ignorant 🤣👍
Definitely the 2 best cordless routers available
The Bosch would be perfect for me. Most of the router work I do is checking in for door hinges. I have the Makita corded equivalent to that 18v and it's a great trimmer router as well.
I have had the makita for s couple of months and love it. Look forward to seeing you at makes central
All lithium tools are like this…I have a lot of m12 stuff and when I want extra punch I don’t use the 2amp and go to a 4 or 6. Same thing with the m18. Haven’t noticed it on my 18v makita stuff but I only have 4, and 5 amp hour batteries nothing smaller. Btw the plunge base on the makita is awesome I hardly ever use my full size router anymore…also the base the comes with the makita has too small of a hole for some of my bits so the plunge opens that up as well
The Makita is a great tool. Like all their kit it is well engineered and robust. I had a play with the Bosch and it is very nice to work with but it is never going to compete with a higher voltage machine in terms of rpm or torque. All things in life are a compromise and it would be nice to have both but I'll stick to Makita as everything I own is on their battery platform.
The Makita is superb - bought the full set of interchangeable bases as well. Incredibly versatile and practical tool.
Really a very informative video. I like that you show actual hands on in shop with tool in hand experience. But, I was a little unclear on your conclusion! If you were to go with just one router choice would it be the Bosch with 6amp or Makita out of the box?
Thank you for this review, i already ordered the 6 amp battery for the bosch router.
I’ve got the 4ah 12v batteries for the Bosch. Makes a massive difference compared to the 2ah’s in the planer, router, jigsaw and mini circular saw, the other tools in the range I haven’t noticed any difference.
How good it the mini planet ???
Manor Wood I was very pleasantly surprised, it’s a great little tool, it’s up there with the router in terms of usefulness and exceeding expectations. Rarely ever use my big one anymore.
The planer is really good. Plenty of power. Light weight, it complements the router well
Nice review. I suppose the power difference in different AMP batteries would depend largely on the tool and the motor. On a brushed screwdriver there may not be a power difference, but on a brushless router or planner - it would be a different story.
Different amp hour only affects run time.
Congratulations on makers central! I hope to make it there this time.
Thank you , didn’t expect that
That was a pretty decent, and honest review, there mate👍
The Bosch is a little animal with the 6mah pack👌
Woohoo, Makers Central, Aye!
You're going to have a blast 😎
Cheers Bill , very nice to be asked about Makers central!
I love my Bosch 12v. I know it's designed to be an edge trimmer, but can you also cut dados with it using a straight bit and guide jig?
I have never tried cordless routers, but it seems that each of those units could serve a purpose. Oh well, I guess I will have to just buy another power tool and test this for myself.
For me no cord is just a nicer way to work
Interesting comparison. I may soon be in the marked for a small router and will need to decide on a corded or cordless as well as the brand to go with.
Just ordered one. But wonder should I buy 6mm or 8mm router bits?
These are so good, very informative stuff.
Re. the Bosch.....Sounds like theres a voltage difference (or voltage drop on load) on the smaller battery compared to the bigger one...hence the speed difference... 😞
I always thought that the aH just affected run time
Me to sometime you get a bit more punch but I have never had more RPMs
Weird that in my corner of Europe they are very similarly priced. Thus Makita comes out ahead due to versatility and power
Is that a Trend Varijig hanging on the wall? If so how do you like it?
Thanks as normal Andy useful information
Nice video, but please remove the battery pack when you change the bit... it really made me feel anxious the whole time.
I’m looking for a cordless router and I think the Makita might be the one. Just found your channel and will be subscribing.
The workbench you were working on. What type of base/frame is the extruded aluminum on your bench. Is that one you put together or were your able to purchase it ready made? And where did you get it?
Ron
Makita is the most versatile Bosch is easer to use I still use both all the time . Should be a full cut list for the workbench in the link which. Gives all the details you need
Great demo there young man! What you need to invest in though is a cordless "Lavalier" microphone so your sound is consistent :-) This will do wonders for your videos :-) Regards from Jack of all trades ..... ;-)
will try to keep audio level .. but I edit at lot these videos on my iPhone so working with 2 audio tracks would be a pain . it already takes for ever to make and edit these as it is ..
I actually prefer to use the corded trimmers / routers instead of cordless... they have huge power and no need to take care of batteries...
The revs on the Bosch are only 13000, I believe the Makita is about 22,000 so there should be a big difference in finish.
is there a plunge base attachment available for this cordless bosch router?
No.
Does anyone have an issue with the makita 18v guide bushing it comes with not being centre to the bit or collet and know how to fix it? It goes off centre when i clip the lever down it looks like
is the small Bosch router will be good enough for doing door hinges or which router would yo recommend for door hinges job please
thanks
You can with a new bit
@@ManorWood
Thank You
Can anyone double check if 12 V 6 Ah battery gives more power? What is the science behind it? Does the router save some power when it detects that battery is running low?
Handy tool!
Dewalt for me all the way but that bosch looks great for small work.
Bosch seems to struggle power wise where the Makita cuts through like butter
I'm also in the market for one. I'm waiting for dewalt cordless router reviews.
How long does it take to charge the 6.0 bosch battery?
I don’t think this is really a fair comparison to anyone looking to buy one The Bosch is only 12 V where is the Makita is 18 I believe the Bosch equivalent is hitting the market in the next few months not I think you need one with this little trim 12 V tool get a mains powered one if you need more power
I am just showing what is have , there is no
Winner , they both have a purpose
dear, doeas the Bosch router have a speed dial adjustment like the Makita ? thanks
No it’ doesn’t but it’s way less powerful so never missed it
I would be interested in a t shirt or hoodie
Hi mate, amp hours will only affect the run time as its just the number of cells wired in parallel not series. Just a heads up. Volts affects the 'power' Thanks for the vid.
I agree , but I was pointing out that after adding the larger battery the router and all other tools in this range run with lost more power not just run time!! . which is why I pointed this out ..this is not the case with any other brands or battery I use
@@ManorWood maybe its because the smaller battery is running out of juice a bit and there is slightly less voltage? Would be interesting to put the meter on it.
Could be but they’re both brand-new batteries fresh charges and the machine performs differently even with no-load
Fair enough, we can only go by what we observe. Cheers again for the vid.
Ekspor ke Indonesia
Very infomative thanks.
Makita with a 2Ah half sized battery is something to consider too.
The bosch it's more like a trimmer then a router 🤷♂️
Bosch 12v is best for self targeting its for easy work, its realy very usually not like makita 18v that not so usually but for more powerfull makita 18v better really more powerfull and has CE and more speeds than bosch and as result better quality on hard work has makita. But every bosch 12 and makita 18 better every in self work targeting.
For more universally usaly - makita, for easy usability work - bosch.
May be bosch doit some 18v more interesting?)))
You're English is so bad
I have Bosch 18V batteries, not 12V and not Makita.
The search goes on.
