Have just recovered from COVID19, my wife is still symptomatic but we should be cleared by Wednesday to start walking more. What I am finding challenging is being patient. I am on day 12 and still some what congested. Any pointers on the congestion post COVID19?
@@hairyairey Im hearing you there Ive had long covid symptoms for 7 months now Can't run yet Easy Swimming and walking is the best I can do at the moment Ive had terrible issues Hearing people are recovering and running so quickly is great for them but there is very little information about how you come back after long term covid No one wants to know Ive asked questions ona few different running channels and ive never even had a reply about long term covid and how you cope or can run again
Let's appreciate the blessing we got coming out alive in the first place. No matter how annoying the Back to Square Zero loss of fitness, shortness of breath hindering us to run at the usual prior pace, or 10-20 BPM higher Heart Rate slowing even mildest Maffetone Heart Rate jog attempts into a walking act is. We.Came.Out.Alive. Every athletic trait we lost we mostly can train back on. I feel blessed to be able to start over at all, after 9 weeks of ZERO sports. This time with MANY more proper core strength, mobility, flexibility and strength workouts in between runs than before. In this sense, COVID even has turned me into a better runner. Have patience folks. Long walks will turn into slowjogs into jogs into runs 🥇. You've got it in you!
I have depression. Went from running marathons to not being able to get out of bed for months. I’m running again but it’s a struggle as it is like starting from scratch. On the positive, my body is a blank slate as any nagging injuries have gone away. I should add I’m a COVID ICU nurse and after this year I feel I can handle just about anything including returning to running. Slogged through a half hour jog the other day so things are looking up.
Keep on going Kirsten. You are a BIG inspiration to anyone. Doing an EXTREMELY TOUGH JOB even in the best of times and you’re recovering from a poo virus (didn’t want to swear there). I am so impressed with your attitude to life and running. A massive hug to you 🤗 and to all of our wonderful nurses!!!
Got covid, tried running a week after since I had a half mararhon coming up in 2 and a half months. Only got 50 yard before I couldn't breath. Just did a little more each day, then ran the half! It was great!
Need this inspo- I’m on day 6 of covid and ran a mile yesterday in about 14-15 minutes. I was pretty upset that all my hard work and training for the half in two months has gone away. I’m really hoping each day I’ll get a little better. I should Feel blessed I had it pretty mild overall, I’m just sad in general. Trying to put things in perspective, it’s just hard! Especially having to be alone on Christmas and New Years :(
I had Covid last September and it took me too long to recuperate, now I’m back at running. Not at my full potential but I’m running again. I started by just walking with my dogs and I happy I can run with no problems. Stay strong people we can do it.
Running my first 10K today after suffering badly with Covid 2 months ago. I couldn’t believe how long it took me to gain any level of fitness after Covid-related heart rate and respiratory issues. But here goes - I’m remembering that it is all about the process. And that success comes in all shapes and sizes! Thanks RC for your continued inspiration and advice.
Me and my partner got covid before christmas, and even though we were both very fit beforehand, we were so physically weak after. We only had a very mild case, and yet walking up and down the stairs or even a very slow gentle yoga took all of our energy. It took a good 6 weeks of very slow steps to get back to full fitness
@@alphonsoelm5652 Yes. I've found that I used to be 'weak minded', but taking up running is marvellous for the psychology of pushing boundaries, especially mental ones. I feel a lot more confident and like i can do ANYTHING - all because i run! P.s. practiced my first half marathon today (2 hours 28 mins - no idea if that's good, but for me it's a hell of a buzz ).
@@JohnM... congrats on the half marathon! That's your time so it better be amazing to you 😁. And I agree with you wholly, running has made me into a much more determined and focused person as well. That belief that if i go a little bit further, I'll progress has spilled over into other areas of my life
Not if you have long term lung damage. I was runner of 30 years. Got COVID last December and ended up in the ICU. Didn't get off oxygen until late February 2021. I still can't run. Walking is still a pain. CT scans have shown long term lung damage. My running days are over.
@@jb894 I thought that but sadly it leaves you with long term health issues, as Runners/Athletes we know out bodies very well. recovery from this thing is slow and unpredictable.
@@jb894 Honestly I thought the same but it's really wack. Although I'm 29, I'm alive, and my symptoms aren't terrible, I have chest pain and brain fog that has me worried about my neurological health. Not fun, just a depressing mess.
I had COVID over Xmas and was ill for a number of days, but got back to 75% quite quickly afterwards. What surprised me was just how long that last 25% took to get back. I regularly run ~50k p/w and it took me probably 2 months of steady build up to get back to my former times/distance. Frustrating though it was (I’ve a marathon in 3 weeks), I just had to take it easy and if that means I won’t make my desired time, the so be it. I’ve been very lucky, and needed to remind myself why I run in the first place.
Thank you for this video and all of the comments! I managed to get through the pandemic and only got sick with COVID this past summer. I tried jumping right back into training and was really struggling. At the time I attributed it to being at altitude (6700’) but I spend about half of my year there so in hindsight I should have known something was amiss. VO2 max plummeted, heart rate skyrocketed, HRV low, etc. Now, 2 months later, just as I have been feeling okay, I’ve got it again. Regardless of the race coming up on the calendar, I’m going to listen to all of these great insights.
This video and the comments below are really helpful. I had a mild case of covid (omnicron) but severe dizziness and fatigue. Getting back to running now after 4 weeks mostly off but my fitness has taken a massive hit, Vo2 max has dropped and my pace is down by 30secs/km on average. A 5km tires me out the way a half marathon did before! Glad to hear that others have gotten back to normal even if it's taken longer than expected.
I’ve got my first virtual half marathon tomorrow as part of training for a marathon! Thank u for all the running tips from all your videos, they’ve really helped me in my training💪🏼
Had Covid in early in February 2021, After the isolation period, and when I thought I was better I went out for a run, and to my surprise, my fatigues levels were quite high. I have been advised to run to a low HR, and comparing my runs pre-covid , I am so much slower and I literally have to walk some of the way. My greatest surprise is how quickly the HR rises and literally difficult to control once it starts to go up. To bring it down I stop for a few seconds and walk, then recommence running. One more thing, the motivation to run has decreased, I have always enjoyed running, and always easy to go out for a run, but now it is so much of an effort
I have had exactly the same experience from 'mild' Covid in early Jan. I have improved but running is still very hard, easy runs are now at race heart rate. I think we have to keep going and just enjoy being out there. Best Wishes!
@@jackvandermolen3266 I am doing Much better Thank you, not quite where I was before Covid, but I am in a much better place, though I could improve my diet.
Wow I’m early! Hey running channel, I started watching you training for my first 5k a year ago. Now I have my first half marathon next week! Thanks for all the tips!
Thanks Running Channel this has been very helpful. Coming back from Covid has been really hard both physically and emotionally. I have had to stop on some early runs, fight back the tears and try to continue. Very slowly I am improving, trying not to think of the past just enjoying early signs of Spring. I feel we Post-Covid Runners have a special bond. Not thinking too far ahead, however it will some experience to maybe line up again on the Marathon start line after what we have been through.
I'm in a physiotherapy school and one of my teachers got heavily sick with covid, that was like 10 months ago and sadly she has a lot of problems with her lungs now affecting her fit lifestyle which she had before, covid can really suck especially for athletes
I second that. Plus, there are MMA fighters that COVID put into retirement. I was a runner for over 25 years and COVID ended my running days. My lungs are permanently damaged from COVID.
@@MH-zg5yw sorry to hear that! It may depend on different factors. Everyone has a different background. Running only can be good for some but not for other. I do run and also do strenght training but If my nutrition is not good, then my performance is not good either. I have allergies (my dog hair and different drugs /aspirine etc). I had covid and my symptoms were mild. Got over quickly but allergies got bad at the end bc of smoke . I never took all the meds doctor prescribed (steroids, AB, etc) I checked my oxygen concenration and helped myself with oxygen at home. Never stop doing push ups or air squats. Energy never was gone. I am not running or lifting weight as before but my run is improving every day and Oxygen concentration actually gets better every time I train. Doctor sent me to ER bc O2 went to 92...I did not bc I know I have allergies and did not have fever. ANyway, I never went to ER and after I started training again everything started to get better. LIke I say, everyone is different but for sure exercise and good nutrition plays an important role. Husband had covid as well but his was like a really bad cold. He does not exercise at all and eats lost of sugar.
thank you so much for this video, I'm about to go on my first proper run after 2 failed attempts after catching covid a couple of weeks ago and I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get back on track...
I’m feel so devastated went for a run today after battling with this disease and could barely do 5 minutes wanted to cry but there’s no point. I know with time and patience in 3 months I’ll be back to where I was before this vicious thing took over my life . Sending everyone love
I got ill with it a year ago, I've had multiple false starts with trying to get back to running. Either fatigue or breathlessness gets me, and I now have asthma after not having it at all before. I ran 3 marathons in 2019 but can't get past 5km now and that 5km takes 38-40 minutes. My 5 year old will be too fast for me when junior parkrun restarts!
Me too, and now have MS like symptoms, got covid in March and although I have tried many times to get back into it, I am far away from my personal best. Hope you get better soon x
Very similar here too, also about a year since I was sick. I managed a 10k but mostly have stuck to 5k or less. It's so tough. Keep at it. I walk a lot more now than run or do walk-run. Good luck :)
I had Covid quite badly back in March 2020 and although I didn't need hospital it took a good 3 weeks to get off the sofa and when I finally made it out for a light jog was very hard breathing and not the same for almost 6 months following and I have no asthma history or breathing problems ...start back slowly, no pressure on yourself and stay consistent and patient..I also found long walks helped no end to get back to being my usual active self
I went through this earlier in the year. I had mild symptoms due to being vaccinated/lucky. I found that for two runs after Covid, I had a higher heart rate for a slower pace. It was much harder work to run and I got breathless almost instantly. However, after the said two runs, I was back near my 5k PR.
I’m experiencing the same, high HR doing 9:20 pace 🤦🏽♀️ luckily I don’t go out of breath.. just started with 5km hoping I’ll be better next week. I’ve been on bed rest for almost 2 months. Today I told myself I’ll beat this and I’ll return to running no matter what.
do your lungs feel like having a tight band wrapping ur chest??? my mild symptoms including this and i really need some advice becaause i just run my first run after ovid and it was very tough
Just went on a run 2 days after my isolation period ended, I probably shouldn’t have gone on a run so soon but I felt good out there did 5km and my breathing felt good! It was 27 degrees and when I got home my head felt like it was on fire, had a cold shower and feeling lots better now. Will wait a week until I go for a run again for sure. Definitely listen to this video and go after a week of being asymptomatic 😁
Not sure if you will still respond. Did that have any effect on your recovery? I did the same thing, Friday 8/18/22 was my end of isolation and I went for a 2 mile run
Thanks for this. I recently just got over the hump of cov and am about 2 weeks lapsed since running. I did however return to activity doing at-home fitness to 'test' my fitness level post-cov, and while that seems good, the real test will be getting out on the tarmac once again. I will keep an eye out on the first run but this was some helpful insights.
I'm on day 6 of covid. Actually, mine hasn't been bad. Most of the initial symptoms have passed. Headache, fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, etc. Now, it's just some drainage and a tickle in my throat. Well, also sneezing occasionally. I've taken several walks (2-3 miles each) and have felt great doing so. Today, I tried a 2 mile run/walk (90 seconds run / 30 seconds walk). It was alright. Not the greatest, but not terrible. I felt kind of hungover. But it wasn't long or intense enough to be truly draining. After hearing about some people barely being able to walk after covid, I realize that I've had it pretty easy.
Will report back on how I get on but just had Covid over a week ago and had been training for a marathon so was pretty fit when it hit me. Symptoms were mainly a chesty bronchial cough and a little fatigue due to coughing during the night. No fever or dizziness. Since I’ve felt better, and that was around a week and a half of initial symptoms, I started indoor cycling to see how I got on fitness wise. So far no problems and plan to start running again with a phased plan that I’ve put together based on this video and a few other helpful reference sites. I would say I lowered them even further after watching this video.
I’m a Division 1 runner who’s coming back and recovering and the only symptoms I had was mild congestion but normal runs have a good bit higher average heart rate. I haven’t tried any hard workouts but I can tell covid has taken its toll in my breathing control
I kept running while I had covid and it killed my fitness. I went from 6-10 miles a day to getting out of breath from walking to the bathroom. I’m so out of shape that it feels like it’s my first Time working out in years every time I go for a run, even though I never took a break. Praying I will get a full recovery and will get back into running shape.
I managed to run a 10k about a month ago but some days I can't walk a mile. It's so variable but listening to your body and just going slow and building up slow has been key for me. Good luck for those also trying to get back to it!
I really appreciate this as I have been struggling.. I had covid early last summer and ever since then my breathing has been very rough I have to use an inhaler I can't run for more than a couple minutes without having to stop for a second and grab my breath.. my Pace has fallen so much lower on average that it became very frustrating and disheartening to the point of where I actually just stopped running for a while..I got back out there again this morning my Pace was terrible but my only goal was just get a couple miles in which I did and I appreciate seeing this to just try to get back into the game
Thanks for watching Chad and I'm really sorry to hear you've been unwell and struggling - but glad to hear you're inspired to persevere! Keep going - you'll get there 😊
I have seen lots of people on here and other FB running pages that said they were not runners and started running after seeing this and the FB pages. A lot of them just ran/walked around their block or the park perimeter, each time they did the route they tried to slowly increase the distance they could run without pushing to hard (eg I made it to that post last time, this time I will at least get there again or just a bit further) doing that each time till they were comfortable. A lot of those people have gone on to run marathons and ultras etc. try hard not to focus on where you were before the virus but focus on your new journey and don’t push yourself to hard.
Great video!!! Always great getting that bit more information from the medical experts. Will you be doing a video on what to expect when you do a race this year? I was lucky enough to do a half marathon and a 10 mile race last year and both used wave starts. They but tricky to understand as never did them before. It would be great doing a “what to expect at a COVID secure race” this year. Pre race protocols, what to do during the race, hydration etc. A lot of people wouldn’t have had any of that experience of this, and many people who started running last year may have never entered a race till this year!! Once again love your videos. KEEP ‘EM COMING!!!! In running we trust!!!!!
Hey Kingsley. Thanks for watching. Rick managed to do a race with Covid rules in place in summer last year and filmed it - this might help ruclips.net/video/h0jC-GVvQuw/видео.html
Nice work TRC. Thankfully I haven't had Covid yet. My wife has received the first vaccine dose and I am finally scheduled to get mine next week. I am so inspired by Francesca. Take that Covid. Well said
In 2019 I entered myself for a marathon due to take place in April 2020 - I’m not a natural distance runner so this was due to be my one and only marathon, a challenge to myself. Due to Covid it was postponed for two years, and I was finally scheduled to run the marathon today. I completed a 16 week training plan, up to the second last run three days ago… then tested positive for Covid! 😫 Fingers crossed I’ll recover quickly and be able to find another marathon in a manageable time frame once I’m better - currently I’m looking out of the window at the amazing weather and imagining being out there on the picturesque course. 😭
Thanks for watching Mohd! Yes, try a slow return under the guidance of your doctor. Walking and running intervals that gradually build up your endurance again. Wishing you all the best for your recovery!
I took on running in May 2020 due to the pandemic after a few years off, and last December I got Covid I felt like crap for one week and took 3 more weeks to fully recover. I did one very slow run just to test how I felt, I was very scared I might do more damage then good to my body but I actually felt great! I was back to training but I did a complete reset to my training and decided to just start over I’m now training for a half marathon!
Also, from a runner MD-- if you're not progressing steadily or you have a symptom that is a bit scary, try going back to your doctor again. There are a lot of monitored tests he/she can do that can look at your heart function (stress tests with an electrocardiogram on a treadmill) or lung function (pulmonary function tests and oxygen saturation during walking or running on a treadmill) in a monitored way that can be safer than running out on the street by yourself. These also can help find out what residual damage COVID may be having and if there are any treatments that might help. Certainly, don't feel like you have to do this alone.
Thanks for the video it was super helpful! Unfortunately, I got Covid-19 right before my highschool regionals xc race (my quarantine ended the day before we ran). I was predicted to go to states so I was really trying to stay in shape and keep training. My symptoms were very mild but the worst for me was muscle fatigue, elevated HR, and diarrhea (diarrhea went away). I hoped some time and rest after regionals would help but I'm still having issues now, 3 months later. I often cross train on the bike and in the last couple weeks there's been days where my legs hurt so bad I can't even get through the warmup. I read that Covid can cause rapid muscle loss especially in the legs. My fitness just seemed to drop so rapidly, and there was nothing I could do to stop it, it's been a real mental drain.
COVID symptoms in April 2020. Felt better by May so straight back into my running. From June to December, my distances, vo2 max and avg pace per mile times were all slower than before. They have started to improve since January, although since last April, I get ill every 2-3 weeks, no real reason as to why. It does Seem to happen if I push myself to hard on a run, but although I don’t want to stop running, sometimes I have to as have no energy to run.
So sorry to hear this Rob. It sounds like things are getting back to normal for you, but slowly which we know can be frustrating but keep going - you'll get there 💪

@@runningchannel how about a "full gear on a budget video" where you show everything a runner needs for a cheap budget. Shoes, watch, clothes. Maybe 3 categorys; Beginner/Average/Pro. But thats just an idea based on your previous gear reviews.
I don't think i had covid but I did get severe breathing problems last year (ran a 10k one weekend and couldnt run 100m the next). Couch to 5k really helped me. I started from the beginning and stuck it out to ease my lungs and legs into it. Felt like it was better to start too easy than go too hard and cause injuries
Then there’s me who hasn’t run in 14 months and tested positive for covid yesterday and got hit hard with it yesterday. Today I decided to really push my body and run a 5k while sick. It definitely effected my body but glad I made it through 😅
I got Covid-19 Feb 2021. I had a fairly mild case. Headache, fatigue, sore throat, loss of taste and smell. Getting back to running after 4 weeks off has been a little difficult. Heart rate is 13-16 bpm higher than prior at the same pace. I was running 30 mile weeks. After 2 weeks I’m now at 15 miles. I hope my fitness comes back. It’s a little depressing.
Im really worried that I will never get back to my original speed after recovering from covid. Im 20 and thought that I could get away with a slap on the wrist but am suffering. Im yet to run yet and if I dont see my speed similar to what I used to have I will be really disheartened
Got Covid and most symptoms were mild except for cough and so much phlegm. I am trying to plot a recovery that gets me back running as I run every day and have for 30 years. This makes me quite nervous and my running and workouts are my mental health tools.
Awesome video, thank you for making, other than your doctor are there specialist doctors that are focused on studying and helping runners return? Are there any studies that we can join to help advance the knowledge. I did virtual London after training all year, and then caught COVID in November. I am gradually getting back, but still get breathless, on some longer activities.
Glad it was helpful Jason! I don't personally know of any studies, but you could have a look online as I'm sure this will be a topic of interest - especially with the Olympics coming up. Glad you hear you're getting back to fitness 😊
The worst part for me was that I had to self isolate. I started self isolating when I got cold like symptoms, then I had a test, then the results came through only a few days later. I self isolated a total of 20 days. I actually had to get mental therapy to help me deal with not going anywhere and not doing any exercise. When I started working out again I was so out of shape that I didn’t enjoy it, but realised I had to put in the effort in order to start enjoying it again.
Thanks for this video. I got mild Covid this February and slowly built up, but still in March and April still had to have long recovery time after each run. Finally... feel normal in May.
I was tested positive ten days ago but I don't have any symptoms except phlegm. I have a race to compete within a few months for this I have to start running asap. I don't know when should I start ? My heart rates increases even when I take stair though I never get exhausted but don't have that stamina which I had before covid.
Befor I caught COVID I was able to run 30 minutes straight at a good speed with out stopping and after COVID I can’t run passed 10 minutes . It’s a little scary but hope things go back to normal after a while .
I know I had it 1 month before the lockdown of 2020. All the symptoms. After a week I felt just fine, except I was 100% winded after even exerting myself for 30 seconds. I was running 30 miles per week pre covid and could do a 12 minute 2 mile at the drop of a hat. Post covid I thought I was going to die simply jogging past my neighbors house 50 yards away. It took 3 months for the shortness of breath to go away.
I waited one month after having covid. I had very light symptoms, but lost my selse of smell and taste. Now it's been more than five months and my smell and taste has not recoved that much. I'm not able to regain my physique. I'm unable to improve my fitness and each time I run feel like I'm just as bad as my last. After 2-3 km I get so tired. Feel so frustrated.
I had COVID around January. I thought I got away lightly but then I went for a run. It was awful. I could barely run 5k. Also my job is quite physical (metalworker) so running when I got home was and still is quite difficult. My fitness has crashed. It’s strange as my heart rate is fine. My legs feel they can go on. But my breathing is very bad. I’ve been taken it easy now for a month. And the thought of a tempo session scares me. I’ve worked back from injury’s including a torn acl and this is by far the hardest comeback.
Sorry to hear that Den. Take it easy and you'll get there - just focus on getting that normal breathing back before you think about tempo sessions, etc. Good luck 😊
hey i had covid last year . one year completed . i was need 6 months to fully recover. but still i have muscles pain especially paining at spinal cord and neck or lower back pain and leg pain and digestive disturb also please help me what to do
My issue is having my pulse higher than what it should be for the activity I am performing. If I start to walk again and I get winded, my heart is usually beating much faster than it normally would. For example, I was at my family reunion last Saturday. One of my cousin's had a pulse oximeter. My O2 was about 93 but pulse was 111 - sitting. I wonder how I could assess when this might not happen anymore?
Thanks Tami for watching! Gosh I wish I had an answer for you. I would recommend chatting with your doctor to see if they have any insight on when it should return to normal. Hoping you're back to full strength again soon!
Had Covid in November and seemed to have recovered fine but even now I get to a point generally 45 mins to an hour in to a run where my lungs seem to just seize up. Literally a 2 min break and I'm fine again. Frustrating and a little odd 🤷🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️
I had very mild covid. Found that my fitness crashed afterwards and am still working on that nearly three months later. Probably pushed myself too much initially and had a scary experience where I felt I couldn't catch my breath. Still occasionally feel like I'm not breathing as deeply as I would have.
I got Covid over Christmas, thankfully it was mild, but running afterwards was REALLY hard. I could only make it half my regular distance and would be coughing the rest of the day and breathing heavier. That last a couple weeks.
A few races were cancelled here in Thailand but I was able to continue training for half marathon (and race, in November, February and in two weeks) throughout the year. Without a mask.. I was intending to return to Switzerland for a race, obviously that didn't happen. We get plenty of vitamin D and Thailand doesn't really suffer from obesity (yet). Comparable population, 68 million, 85 deaths due to Covid!
Up until January this year I was fit strong and healthy smashing all my pb's from 1k to ultra marathon distances up to about 60km I contracted covid in February and have gone down hill ever since Ive had some terrible issues but was only in hospital for 2 days with no ventilator However ive had chest pain, breathing difficulty ,heart palpitations and fluctuating blood pressure My resting heart rate is still about 85-90 where previously it was 45-50 Im almost 6 months post covid and have been told I can start some mild light low heart rate exersise So im doing some swimming and walking while keeping my heart 130 and below Ive been searching the running channels on you tube to find any info on returning to running after long covid and sofar ive found nothing that relates to my experience Surely there must be someone out there in the running world who has had my issues Any advice or inspiring come back stories would be a big help at the moment even just to show me there is a light at the end of the tunnel that's not a train coming the other way Cheers 👍😊
130 seems a lowish HR limit. My covid (3 months go) was very mild, but I get random HR spikes while running. I walk for about 30 seconds if it spikes above 180. (65yo male).

I had a covid last month. My running pre-covid was well around 7-8km per day. But after covid I'm feeling a lack of energy which is strongly stressful. I had a mild symptoms. Love from India
I suffered from severe covid.. hrct-17/25..its been 2 months since I got discharged.. the chest pain went away and I started to do some exercises and yoga but after only 2 days developed chest pain again.. any suggestions when should I start exercises?
take it slow. it could take a year or more for your body to fully recover. Make sure you follow up with a pulmonologist and get a CT scan of your lungs to see if you have any long term damage. I was in the ICU with COVID last December. I still can't run and I was a runner for over 25 years. I tried running last week and I last two and half minutes and my breathing went downhill. Walking has gotten better for me. Uphill or climbing stairs is still hard on my lungs. I started with light weights and basic walking for 10 min intervals, twice daily. I remember when I couldn't even walk half a block without running out of breath. Now I am up to 4 miles just walking. But, I still get fatigue and there are days where I don't do exercise because of the fatigue and intermittent pain. Again, take it slow and scale it back. Don't try to be a hero out the gate.
@@MH-zg5yw thanks.. yes walking is better.. anything else brings back pain.. I walk for about 30-35min with 5min rest in between..any other exercise brings back pain..even getting up from lying down position is painful in central area of chest..it will take time..
How are you doing now? Same happened to me. Chest tightness went away after 3 weeks, then I went running fine for 2 weeks and suddenly chest tightness returns and I'm breathless all day
@@labelleodile2739 I am totally fine now😊 it took around 4-5 months to get rid of post covid complications.. and another 2-3 months for developing everyday exercise habit.. now I exercise (mid intensity, never liked high intensity) nearly everyday 1/2hour. Because of so much rest I gained lots of weight (93kgs).. now working to get in control (reached 85.4kg today🤟) Note- I am 30 years old.. so on the young side but never took my health seriously.. but now my philosophy has changed.. I eat healthy and exercise 6 days a week.. also I got covid in 2nd covid wave in India which was predominantly delta.. now omicron is going on.. It gets better.. that's all I can say..

I caught Covid in March of last year and I’ve noticed I’ve developed a little bit of a wheeze Whilst running and exercising
Have just recovered from COVID19, my wife is still symptomatic but we should be cleared by Wednesday to start walking more. What I am finding challenging is being patient. I am on day 12 and still some what congested. Any pointers on the congestion post COVID19?

Hearing people are recovering and running so quickly is great for them but there is very little information about how you come back after long term covid
No one wants to know

Thanks for sharing this, Conrad! Very wise words 😊
I appreciate your positive message. Thank you Conrad Zurbuchen. You said it well!
That gave me hope thank u 🤍
Doesn't feel like a blessing. If I can't get back to training would have preferred the latter 😞
Thank you for the great words of wisdom and for keeping one in a place of gratitude.
Thanks for sharing this Kristen - so sorry to hear you were unwell, but it sounds like things are looking up for you. Keep going 💪
Stay strong Kristen and one step in front of the other! Thank you so much for all you do!
Great work!
I had covid 3 months ago and I’m slowly getting back!
how are you today? back to normal?
Got covid, tried running a week after since I had a half mararhon coming up in 2 and a half months. Only got 50 yard before I couldn't breath. Just did a little more each day, then ran the half! It was great!
That's great Peyton - thanks for sharing. And well done on your half!
This is the kinda inspiration I need, right on!
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing that Kyra and glad to hear you're running again 😊
This is motivating! I’m on Day 3 of my Covid positive isolation and this video gives me hope to get back stronger than ever
Thanks so much for watching. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Runners will find anyway to run no matter what
The most persistent and hard headed people you can find
@@alphonsoelm5652 Yes. I've found that I used to be 'weak minded', but taking up running is marvellous for the psychology of pushing boundaries, especially mental ones. I feel a lot more confident and like i can do ANYTHING - all because i run! P.s. practiced my first half marathon today (2 hours 28 mins - no idea if that's good, but for me it's a hell of a buzz ).
@@JohnM... congrats on the half marathon! That's your time so it better be amazing to you 😁. And I agree with you wholly, running has made me into a much more determined and focused person as well. That belief that if i go a little bit further, I'll progress has spilled over into other areas of my life
That's what I've been doing for the past 6 months.
Not if you have long term lung damage. I was runner of 30 years. Got COVID last December and ended up in the ICU. Didn't get off oxygen until late February 2021. I still can't run. Walking is still a pain. CT scans have shown long term lung damage. My running days are over.
I have covid right now, and this is something I’ve been really concerned about so thank you for the great advice!
Glad it was helpful but so sorry to hear you're unwell. Rest up and good luck with your return to running 😊

Agree with this 100%, Nick! Thanks so much for sharing this. All the best for your marathon 💪
Same, I was back running pretty quickly after recovering but 4 months later I still feel like my lungs are only working at about 80% capacity.
part of running is having setbacks :( .. but we overcome them and it makes us stronger :)
Hope you live your normal life now ???
I’ve got my first virtual half marathon tomorrow as part of training for a marathon! Thank u for all the running tips from all your videos, they’ve really helped me in my training💪🏼

You're so welcome Isobel! Good luck with your half marathon tomorrow 😊
So sorry to hear that Sylvarius! Wishing you a speedy recovery 😊
I have had exactly the same experience from 'mild' Covid in early Jan. I have improved but running is still very hard, easy runs are now at race heart rate. I think we have to keep going and just enjoy being out there. Best Wishes!

Nice work Kadi! Thanks for watching and good luck with your half marathon!
True. I've seen absolutely fit individuals get slammed to asthma

Please Take it really easy, I tried coming back after a couple of weeks should of waited longer.

How to turn covid into a positive = come back stronger and book a marathon. Absolute champs!
So sorry to hear this Joanne. We know it's frustrating, but keep going - you'll get there 😊
Me too, and now have MS like symptoms, got covid in March and although I have tried many times to get back into it, I am far away from my personal best. Hope you get better soon x
Very similar here too, also about a year since I was sick. I managed a 10k but mostly have stuck to 5k or less. It's so tough. Keep at it. I walk a lot more now than run or do walk-run. Good luck :)
I share your frustration I'm improving but its so slow. I am grateful to be back out there once again.
Thanks for sharing that Paul and sorry to hear you were poorly. The important thing, as you say, is to take it very slowly 😊
@@runningchannel the plus side is I had time to rewatch all the Running Channels great content 👌
Great to hear Ben, and thanks for sharing that.

I ran on my second day. Mine was very mild. Fresh air in the lungs...good medicine for me!
Definitely listen to this video and go after a week of being asymptomatic 😁
how are you now?
Not sure if you will still respond. Did that have any effect on your recovery? I did the same thing, Friday 8/18/22 was my end of isolation and I went for a 2 mile run
Thanks for this. I recently just got over the hump of cov and am about 2 weeks lapsed since running. I did however return to activity doing at-home fitness to 'test' my fitness level post-cov, and while that seems good, the real test will be getting out on the tarmac once again. I will keep an eye out on the first run but this was some helpful insights.
Glad it was helpful Ryan, really hope you're back to full health soon
Been getting faster times recently and your videos and advice have really helped, so thank you!
Well done to you and this is so great to hear! 😊. Have you got any race goals for 2021?
Really appreciate this detailed breakdown, thanks!
Sounds like you're doing everything right, don't push yourself though. Wishing you a speedy recovery
Sorry to hear that Austen. Hoping you return to normal fitness soon 😊
Have you recovered your fitness?
@Austen Cave hows ur body right now??
I feel very sad because of not doing running. I want to run as soon as early
Thank u guyz
I kept running while I had covid and it killed my fitness. I went from 6-10 miles a day to getting out of breath from walking to the bathroom. I’m so out of shape that it feels like it’s my first Time working out in years every time I go for a run, even though I never took a break. Praying I will get a full recovery and will get back into running shape.
So sorry to hear this DJ. Really hoping you get back to full fitness soon 😊
I just got covid in 2022 and just watched this video to return safely to running 🏃🏻♀️

I took on running in May 2020 due to the pandemic after a few years off, and last December I got Covid I felt like crap for one week and took 3 more weeks to fully recover. I did one very slow run just to test how I felt, I was very scared I might do more damage then good to my body but I actually felt great! @@Aviamoyal I’m doing great thank you! I’m training for my forth half marathon this year! 😅
Thanks so much Peter - that's really helpful 😊

Sorry to hear this Madi - do go easy on yourself, you've been through a rough time! Wishing you a speedy recovery 😊

Thanks for watching Steve and sorry to hear you were unwell. Wishing you a speedy recovery 😊
Had covid back in January just minor cold symptoms nothing series it took me 4 months to get my running fitness back to where it was
Im really worried that I will never get back to my original speed after recovering from covid.
Wishing you a speedy recovery! Do chat with your doctor about the best way back to running - as each individual case is different.
Wish I had that info 12 month ago.
Me too
Awesome video, thank you for making, other than your doctor are there specialist doctors that are focused on studying and helping runners return? Are there any studies that we can join to help advance the knowledge. I did virtual London after training all year, and then caught COVID in November. I am gradually getting back, but still get breathless, on some longer activities.
Glad it was helpful Jason! I don't personally know of any studies, but you could have a look online as I'm sure this will be a topic of interest - especially with the Olympics coming up. Glad you hear you're getting back to fitness 😊
I had an EKG test done and my heart was normal. Should I get an MRI done?
The worst part for me was that I had to self isolate. I started self isolating when I got cold like symptoms, then I had a test, then the results came through only a few days later. I self isolated a total of 20 days. I actually had to get mental therapy to help me deal with not going anywhere and not doing any exercise. When I started working out again I was so out of shape that I didn’t enjoy it, but realised I had to put in the effort in order to start enjoying it again.
So sorry to hear this Elitsa, but it's a very good point to raise about self isolation. Thanks for watching and good luck with your training.
Thanks for this video. I got mild Covid this February and slowly built up, but still in March and April still had to have long recovery time after each run. Finally... feel normal in May.

My heart rates increases even when I take stair though I never get exhausted but don't have that stamina which I had before covid.
Just got covid and I have a half marathon in two weeks....:(
needless to say I will not be doing a pb on this race.
Befor I caught COVID I was able to run 30 minutes straight at a good speed with out stopping and after COVID I can’t run passed 10 minutes . It’s a little scary but hope things go back to normal after a while .
We wish you the best as you recover Jose!
@@runningchannel thank you ❤️
I know I had it 1 month before the lockdown of 2020.
That was so helpful 👌🏻
Glad you think so!
Begin with walking 30-60 min a day ,
I had COVID around January.
Good luck 😊
@@runningchannel thanks hopefully I’ll see you guys at the national running show in July.
What about those trying to run again after long covid?
hey i had covid last year . one year completed . i was need 6 months to fully recover. but still i have muscles pain especially paining at spinal cord and neck or lower back pain and leg pain and digestive disturb also please help me what to do
My issue is having my pulse higher than what it should be for the activity I am performing.
Thanks for watching Steve and sorry to hear this, we hope you get back to full strength soon!
@@runningchannel Thanks so much! GNR 2021 in September so working towards that 👍
I had very mild covid. Found that my fitness crashed afterwards and am still working on that nearly three months later. Probably pushed myself too much initially and had a scary experience where I felt I couldn't catch my breath. Still occasionally feel like I'm not breathing as deeply as I would have.
So sorry to hear this Pete. We hope you're back to normal fitness soon :-)
@@runningchannel Need to find me some breathing exercises! 🤣
agree i cant even breath as deep as i can during my easy runs and hows ur condition now?? i ust recover from covid last two days
I got Covid over Christmas, thankfully it was mild, but running afterwards was REALLY hard. I could only make it half my regular distance and would be coughing the rest of the day and breathing heavier. That last a couple weeks.
Sorry to hear this Katie, but hope you're getting back to normal now?
A few races were cancelled here in Thailand but I was able to continue training for half marathon (and race, in November, February and in two weeks) throughout the year. Without a mask.. I was intending to return to Switzerland for a race, obviously that didn't happen.
We get plenty of vitamin D and Thailand doesn't really suffer from obesity (yet). Comparable population, 68 million, 85 deaths due to Covid!
Thanks for watching 😊
Can you do the blindfold egg and spoon relay race challenge?
Up until January this year I was fit strong and healthy smashing all my pb's from 1k to ultra marathon distances up to about 60km
I contracted covid in February and have gone down hill ever since
Ive had some terrible issues but was only in hospital for 2 days with no ventilator
However ive had chest pain, breathing difficulty ,heart palpitations and fluctuating blood pressure
My resting heart rate is still about 85-90 where previously it was 45-50
Im almost 6 months post covid and have been told I can start some mild light low heart rate exersise
So im doing some swimming and walking while keeping my heart 130 and below
Ive been searching the running channels on you tube to find any info on returning to running after long covid and sofar ive found nothing that relates to my experience
Surely there must be someone out there in the running world who has had my issues
Any advice or inspiring come back stories would be a big help at the moment even just to show me there is a light at the end of the tunnel that's not a train coming the other way
Cheers
👍😊
130 seems a lowish HR limit. My covid (3 months go) was very mild, but I get random HR spikes while running. I walk for about 30 seconds if it spikes above 180. (65yo male).
@@RossNixon
My ct scans showed inflammation in my heart ,lungs and sinus
My cardiologist and respiritory specialist have both said to keep my heart rate low while recovering or run the risk of relapsing
They are both sports medical professionals so for a change im listening
Ive realised I can't exersise my way to recovery this time
I have to take it easy
Walking and swimming at the moment is best I can do
@@barefootbeachrunner9498 OK, in that case follow their advice. I presume you take some anti-inflammatories also? I can't advise which ones would suit but expect there is something suitable.
@@RossNixon
Yes antihistamines
Probiotics
Different vitamins and extended water fasting is also in some countries medical protocols
Trust me after 7 months you try just about everything to get over it
I was off work for the first 5 months I was so sick and so fatigued
People who've had a slight case of covid have absolutely no idea about long covid
It's real and it devastating physically ,mentally and financially as most doctors have no idea about what's going on
And government medical agencies and support agencies are non existent regarding Long covid
Very interesting and informative - thank you. Do those who have had Covid have immunity from it again?
Glad you enjoyed it Mitchell! Thanks for watching 😊
I've heard having the antibodies is better than the shots, according to some reports.
I had a covid last month. My running pre-covid was well around 7-8km per day. But after covid I'm feeling a lack of energy which is strongly stressful. I had a mild symptoms. Love from India
Sorry to hear this Ravinder. Hope you feel better soon 😊
@@runningchannel yeah bro I'm feeling better now.
I’m getting out of quarantine tomorrow and got wrecked by covid. Idk how likely a half marathon is by October. Haha eventually it’ll get there tho
@@AK-hz4li Stay strong. You're not alone.
Because of so much rest I gained lots of weight (93kgs).. now working to get in control (reached 85.4kg today🤟)
Note- I am 30 years old.. so on the young side but never took my health seriously.. but now my philosophy has changed.. I eat healthy and exercise 6 days a week..
also I got covid in 2nd covid wave in India which was predominantly delta.. now omicron is going on..
It gets better.. that's all I can say..
How to recover if you have long hauler?
Thanks for watching! We'd always recommend talking to a medical professional to get specific advice
Anyway,
Covid19 makes me amature runner.
Long covid19 period makes me consistant runner.
Can you do the blindfold obstacle course challenge?
Sounds tricky!
You guys are gonna do a smell test and a blind taste test
Do you guys have a return to running after an injury video?
For now, I had covid 2 months ago, and I feel still weak, like I can't return to running anymore. It's very sad. The major effect on me is mental
Really sorry to hear this Alessandro. Hoping things pick up for your again soon 😊
Hope you feel better now .??
The fact is, at the moment, no. I'm not the same as before. I'm doing some physical activity, but very worse than before
@@sandrinoes it means you slowly improve...
Can you do a juggling tutorial
That's one for Andy, for sure Augustus!
