I do the same thing, but with the FT-891 I can pull line level audio off the ACC port. I then use the Line to Mic level attenuator to pad the signal. Another tip, since you are using the Rode Wireless Go II mics is to set your mic connected to the radio to -12 dB. This will give you plenty of headroom for those received signals. Record stereo right your audio and stereo left the radios and then when you edit, adjust the levels independently and mix down to mono.

Already doing the rest of that! Dual channel audio is the only way. That digital -12 dB can’t fix the port overload - combination of these things seems to be the fix. Also, leveling side tone vs received strength before starting. I hadn’t been as careful with that before, and could end up with a 10 dB mismatch. Fine in the field, but not OK for a video!

@@SOTA-plus You're correct, the attenuator is a necessity, in addition to setting the level to -12 in the microphone. Mic level is much hotter than line level. Those little Rode microphones are a godsend to field recording. You've got nice audio

Thanks for pointing out the attenuated splitter! I've been thinking of adding a voice recorder to my POTA recording system for weeks and I think this will take care of the last hurdle I needed to jump.

Really glad it worked out! Always a bit of a risk when new gear first hits the field. Have you gotten up any more SOTA peaks lately?

@ I have been using a 2nd mic next to the portable speaker. And that is just not cutting it anymore. Too much delta in the audio wavelength and not consistent. I’ll be using your idea and will give you a shout out for bringing it to my attention. Your audio in this video was your best quality by far.

@@SOTA-plus GM , tried the splitter yesterday into headphones and a DJI mic on the summit. worked perfectly. Audio is phenomenal! TU for making a video describing your idea 💡.

Our household may have a key-collecting problem… but I always go back to the BaMaTech TP-III. Such a wonderful feel.
