Good video. Thanks. I was wondering if Mt Lukens was visible from my childhood home in La Crescenta, near Two Strike park. I can see from the views from the top that we were just out of view behind the ridge, while the rest of the Crescenta Valley is in sight.

I believe that plant is Datura wrightii. It's poisonous and psychoactive and is native to the Southwestern US and Northern Mexico.

Great video. I was also W6Q for an hour the prior day, Saturday, 6/1/2024. On my shift there was a huge solar storm which prevented HF contacts. But thanks to our LAX locals, I got plenty of contacts working VHF/ 2 m from W6/CT-019, San Gabriel Peak. Hope to get a YL to YL contact, or even better a S2S with you next year. Carol KE6SRN.

Awesome location, awesome CW, great job. I've been practicing copying CW for about 2 months now, and I'm still very slow. I don't get the call signs as quickly as Di yet, but I'll keep practicing. Really nice video. I agree 100% with the advice. btw, I’m an OM, but I love the idea of “manual FT8.” But, that’s just a start. You’ll get a lot more out of CW if you get past that phase.

I recommend that you also learn about using additional soldering flux... Not just what is contained in the solder.

Who is your camera operator? They do a good job.

The copper wire has an enamel coating on it. At the places where you need to solder it to the board, you need to scratch or burn off the enamel coating in that small section of the wire.

PCBs are generally made of fiberglass.

The QCX mini certainly isn't an easy build, and I say this as someone who can solder SMD components without much issue. It is, however an awesome first CW radio (I made my first CW contact on one). If you are looking for something even harder to build then the QMX is an option or if you want something (probably) easier then the new QMX+ is an option too. I am actually designing my own CW transceiver kit that will hopefully be on sale in a month or so and it will definitely be easier than the QCX mini to assemble!

Building kits with the cat helping is highly recommended. Well done!

I would definately recommend a better soldering iron if you would like to keep working on similar projects where you need to solder a bunch of components or if you need to do some tricky solder jobs. I am using TS-80P and it is a very small portable and very performant soldering iron. I would say it is a buy once and never think about it kind of tool. Love the video and I will be checking others :) Have a nice day

Solder vapors might be unhealthy for you but for your cats even more, in terms of exposure per relative body mass.

I love it, that you put this kit together. Mistakes are part of learning. You are doing better then me. I haven't even learned the art of soldering yet. I would love to put a kit together. Maybe not a CW kit because I am still in the process of learning CW but, maybe the trainer. Thank you so very much for sharing this video. It is maybe the best QRP rig on the market right now. You will love it I am sure… Ultra compact 5-bander with capability to operate from 8-13.8V, SWR meter included. The price is still very reasonable and radio looks professional. Congrats to Hans!
