Best description of what is really going on on Twitter. But I would add that a lot of the VC Musk fan boys have money tied up in Tesla and want to see it go back up. A significant part of the drop in value of Tesla was because it was (over)valued based on a belief in Elon and not on financial results. So pumping Musk is also about their bottom line. It goes without saying that a person following Musk's son is scary and totally wrong. There should already be a full FBI investigation, not a just a post with a caption 'Anyone recognize this person or car?' If he has the license plate, he already knows the vehicle's owner and very likely the person in it.
As far as people tracking Musk in general, he's a billionaire who chose to make himself a public figure. Paparazzi, fans, and haters track the movements of pretty much every celebrity out there. He is no exception and knows this better than anybody. They have body guards because of the potential danger. When regular people who didn't have body guards raised the issue of being doxed and harassed, he claimed it was just a product of free speech and that they should get thicker skin. Maybe he should take his own advice.
