  • Jimmy Fallon Is More Strict Than You Think With Celebrities, Guests and The Audience On His Show. From Dress Code to Difficult Questions...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon never fails to make audiences laugh and it’s been that way since the show premiered in 2014. But that’s not really surprising given all the hilarious features the show highlights. Comedy sketches, silly games, and musical parodies are just some of the things viewers can expect. But no late-night show would be complete without celebrity interviews, which this show offers plenty of. This explains why the show has been such a huge hit on television over the years.
Some of Fallon’s guests have included big Hollywood celebrities like Chris Hemsworth, Selena Gomez, Madonna, the Jonas Brothers, and Nicki Minaj. And that’s only a handful! But while viewers get to enjoy the laughs every weeknight, it’s not all fun and games behind the scenes. A Tonight Show insider told the New York Post that Fallon may be struggling to keep the show successful. Then again, doing the show every day is tough.
But the pressure to remain hip and appeal to audiences is a struggle all talk show hosts have had to endure over the years. And it’s not like Jimmy is a veteran in the world of talk shows either. He’s only been doing this for a couple of years, so he’s still learning. But, he’s not the only one. There are a lot of strict rules that Fallon’s guests and audience members must follow before and during taping. And one tiny hiccup could turn into a disaster or worst yet, a show-canceling nightmare.

I've attended The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon twice. It's true no cell phone use or photos are allowed, you can't go to the bathroom during the show, you have to arrive early with your entire party, and you're supposed to clap whenever you see the applause sign light up... but I figured all those rules were pretty standard for any show taped in front of a live audience. Seems pretty logical/understandable to me. Jimmy always goes thru the audience at the end of each show, and both times I went, I got a high five. Also, during commercial breaks, The Roots perform, which is like a little, mini-concert, so that's cool, too.

Wow,that's a lot of strict rules to abide by.It sounds like being at school or a church or something like that , geez. Now,hypothetically speaking, let's say a person has a cell phone and they aren't doing anything verboten with taking photos, but only checking the time on it,seems harmless and innocent ,ok,.Now,if their phone gets confiscated (taken away),do they have to wait to get it back and get kicked out? Also, seems to me,tickets are probably in the $50 to $500 range whether the taped shows are in New York City or in California.Regarding the dress code , do the men necessarily have to wear a suit, tie ,slacks, and dress shoes while women have to wear evening gown , dress pants and heels?

I did hear though, from an audience member, that they do tell them to laugh out loud when they feel like laughing, if they can, don't restrain themselves, react, b/c they like the interaction and it makes for a good sound.

Well.... theres a director that calls the camera angles.... live..... The director is a person who probably knows the song.
Second, actors, are trained for two things, find the light, and bank on the best shot.
Third, there is also a gib camera operator, whose primary function is to "sell" the director shots. This gib operator also probably knew the song and raised his camera and extended the jib to over her head, to which she posed for, the director called the camera angle, and made for one of the best shots in studio production history. (You can bet the producer was singing their praises after the show)

As I used to be a fan from the Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon and I followed the show & writers on different social media as well and I've seen lots of behind the scenes and a day in the life/how the show is prepared - type of stuff...I can tell you these ''rules'', that are actually for the guests, are absolutely not true. (most of this stuff is for the audience -.-)
Jimmy's whole thing is that his guests have to feel good on his show, he's not going to be mean/snarky w/ them (like previous regime of hosts), he's not doing games & sketches & whatnot to make fun of them or embarrass them, but to have fun WITH them and show them in a different light for the audience, he's not going to ask intrusive question or put his guests on the spot, he even helps/covers for them, so saying they will definitely be embarrassed & have to talk about things they don't want to talk about & whatnot is simply the biggest BS! He jokingly makes fun of guests only when he knows they can take it, when he knows them/is friendly w/ them/they have been dick-ish/making fun of him...but he's still in a ''we're all having fun together here'' mood.
Guests do know what they are singing for Lip Sync Battle, they pick their songs and rehearse them, what they don't know is EACH OTHER'S songs, so their reaction to their competitor's performance is genuine.
And regarding the audience part, I don't know if the clapping thing changed in the last couple of years, but Jimmy actually wanted to get rid of the applause sign at the beginning of the TS, so I really doubt that they are forcing the audience to clap for every little thing a guest says...Jimmy didn't get his way b/c producers wanted the signs for stuff like going/coming from commercial break, guests entering/exiting the stage, beginning/end of the show. I did hear though, from an audience member, that they do tell them to laugh out loud when they feel like laughing, if they can, don't restrain themselves, react, b/c they like the interaction and it makes for a good sound.

They were rules we had to follow as well as employees, which was not taking photos etc.

Talk show hosts sometimes talk about the rehearsal part, especially Conan O'Brien, who usually mentions that "things went differently during rehearsal" as a joke. They must even rehearse the games they play on the show so the guest is more comfortable doing it in front of an audience. If it's songs, that's more than rehearsed, they actually all prepare for it beforehand. It's too obvious. lol

    • @donnalynn2
      @donnalynn2 4 года назад +3

Exactly! I mean, say for instance I am a celebrity. I go on the show and they pick a Ludacris song. I'm going to look like a complete idiot bc I don't know any of his music! You aren't going to make your guest look like a yutz! People don't know every song! Some people don't like country or rap or pop, etc. You simply cannot forsee what music they know the words that perfect for. Heck, I absolutely love musicals and the theater but I would never be able to sing every song to every musical ever written. Same goes to other types of music I like. They can stop this lie right now.

Well.... theres a director that calls the camera angles....
