- I'm crayfishing again. AND... I'm catching monster crayfish again. Another great day crayfishing was had in this video. The crayfishing started off quite slowly but picked up late afternoon and the crays were running hot.
In crayfishing terminology, the crayfish were 'marching' late in the afternoon.
I started craying at around 1:30pm and it wasn't until after 4pm that the crayfish started really biting well.
I love crayfishing. In fact, I would almost say that I am addicted to it.
We have strict crayfishing laws here in Australia, but that is for a reason. The crayfishing laws are in place to protect these beautiful spiny Murray crayfish which are quite vulnerable for generations to enjoy, just as we enjoy crayfishing today.
Do not get the Murray crayfish confused with the spiny freshwater crayfish found in the southern part of Victoria. They are two different species if crayfish are are both regulated under 2 different sets of rules and regulations.
Always know the crayfishing rules before you head out.

That female Cray was a monster. Great to see you encouraging and practicing responsible fishing.
Hey Andy thanks for stopping by. It's all about sustainability.
Jasiah Jameson your insecurities are through the roof
Love your work robbie I fish catch and release myself and it's great to see you leading by example.
Over here in the states we call Crays that big. LOBSTERS. Love your videos ,good luck and stay well.
I'm a big trout guy, but I'm loving these cray fishing videos! Great content, Robbie!!
Hey Nick thanks heaps mate. I love both as well. Thankfully we have crayfish at this time of the year when the trout streams are closed.
What a great video robbie, thanks for sharing this adventure with us.
Hey Nate, thanks for your kind words and thanks so much for watching.
Your a legend Robbie. Love the vids mate keep em coming.
I had no idea crayfish got that big anywhere in the world. The ones we have in the US are tiny compared to those! Interesting and looks fun!
Nice Crays mate great size too I only filmed 3 under sized caught yesterday. Great fun to have a go again after so long tho👌
Great Catch Mate!!!!
Amazing creatures, amazing feed.
Thanks Moose, but they could never be as nice as the yabbies that you cooled for me.
Those little undersized crayfish would be considered enormous here in the states. They are the size of small lobsters. The big ones/oversized ones are medium size lobsters. Super cool Robbie!!! Love the channel mate!!! Love from the USA bruv!!!
Hey Roger thank you so much for your kind words. I just finished watching a doco on Danny Trejo. It reminded me of my trip to America in 2001. I love the U.S.A.
I'm licking my chops while re-watching this hahaha
Exciting video, that tangle up got me nervous lol, great catching!! 👍🏾
Hahaha Thanks mate. All I could see was a huge white claw. LOL
Helpful hints😎
I am certainly looking forward to catching my first crayfish 🦞
Thanks Vilma. They are a lot of fun.
another great video mate, just wondering if you know how to make a snare to catch a rabbit ( i hope i spelt it right ) if so can you please do a video on it, thanks robbie and happy fishing
Another great video Robbie
Thanks for another great video Robbie. Hope you enjoyed your tea.
Thanks so much Brett. Theyxwete absolutely magnificent mate.
Nice!! I've been catching fishing yesterday afternoon and this afternoon and got 7 between my brother and I the first night and 7 between 3 of us tonight with a few big ones each!
G'day bate thats so awesome, well done.
Cracking video mate. I even had my wife watch with me lol. I hope you enjoyed your catch...
Hahaha I hope she didn't take too much convincing mate. 🤣🤣🤣
They were absolutely beautiful thanks buddy.
@@robbiefishing nope no convincing at all.
Hey Robbie. Great vid as always mate.
I’m not sure if you mentioned, but what do you use as cray bait. I tend to use chicken necks and just cable tie 2 or 3 together to make a clump.
Anyways keep up the great vids
Robbie your the best
Thank you so much my friend.
Andy is real good at the tourist thing. You are awesome and whetting the whistle of us oz ppl.
I remember the "floppy" well. Very informative video Robbie. When I get my new rod and reel setup, might get me some of those frogs.
That's a monster. Good feed there.
Great job Robbie love it all I'm still get out for for my first Cray season hope to get out this weekend coming 😁🤪😬
Thanks Chris. Sounds awesome. Good luck mate.
Robbie I’ve got a idea about leaving the cray nets in and I think it works, you leave them in short time the smaller crays from that area that don’t live in the best lairs of the river come out quickly and the longer you leave them in they smell it further and the big ones come out of the best lairs in the deepest and best spots to your meat, you can still get lucky with catching a big one by leaving it in for short times too.
Hey Patrick thanks for sharing your thoughts. Could very well be the case mate.
Cool video, looks rather chilly in the video. Keep them coming enjoying the crayfishing again it’s something completely different to what we get at home.
Thanks so much Cam. It has been a bit chilly, but not bitterly cold apart from 1 couple of days last week. Hopefully we can get some more good rain soon.
Great vids mate.. use para cord as line for the dilly pots seems to ok. Lightweight and strong

awesome channel very intelligent man I wish I had yabbis and crawfish in eastern Canada
Thank you so much for your kind words Jeff.
Awesome!
Great stuff mate
You champion! love your show!
Haha thanks so much mate.
Hi robbiefishing,me and my best mate when we were only 10 or 12 we used to used to jump into the shallow end and try to catch em with chicken.when we got caught we got in a lot of trouble. My mates old man said you never know where drop offs are and you could drown.we all learn.
If your using that cord perhaps a big handlining reel might be good to minimise knots and tangles
Wooweee Robbie. I am going to have fun when I go out!
Hi Phil, I hope you get onto a few mate.
Hey again - I just thought of something - Wouldn't it be funny if while you were taking a happy snap of the crayfish , he took a happy snap of you lol
LOL That would be funny.
How long is the cray season ? Really enjoy your videos. Thankyou
Thank you so much Jeff. Cray season is open every day of winter.
great stuff
Thanks heaps Will.
That's Awesome brother. Well done. Enjoy the feed. Would I be correct in assuming that you have a new shirt and have yet to utilise one of the pockets? Cheers mate.
Haha mate, I've had this too for a while. I just prefer wearing short sleeves. LOL
On my spare time buddy I like watching you catch giant 🦞🦞🦞🦞
Thank you so much for tuning in Michael. 🙏
Great video
Thanks heaps Charlie.
Nice crays Robbie! Must have been an awesome dinner. Hahaha both of us aren't good cooks. Came back from carp fishing 2 hours ago successfully landed 2 I saw your post that you are going carp fishing, In the rivers near me they slow down but they are just as active in lakes and ponds. Good Luck!
Thanks buddy. Well done in the carp. As soon as I get time I am hoping to wet a line. They slow down a lot here too mate but I need to go fishing ASAP.
Relaxing in the car is a good idea while waiting. Not fond of anything that bites😂
Keep catching!
Haha thanks mate and there are plenty of things that bite around here. LOL
Great catch Robbie. Love the vids
Thank you so much Jimmy.
Robbie I love your Vids. You've given me a reason to visit Victoria. If the border is open? Just Boil the bastards and eat them!! I hear you saying Undersized and then Oversized so there is a size window??
Nice work Robbie I hope they tasted great mate. Good to see you still pulling in those monsters, the population looks very healthy there! I'm still yet to test the waters around here, hoping to get out sometime this week.
Awesome, good luck when you do mate. I hope that terrible pollution doesn't effect you too much.
They were absolutely magnificent mate.
@@robbiefishing I don't reckon it will affect me here, as the Campaspe has dry spots upstream of Eppalock. Rain might change that though lol
Top stuff Robbie! I caught a nice one with a rod targeting carp down at Yarrawonga only down side was no wifi which means....no robbiefishing
That sounds awesome mate. No wifi hahaha that's a huge problem fornmt kids too mate. LOL
I hooe you had a wonderful camping trip.
Gday robbie just yesterday I was out with my old man and we caught a couple (in the Bodie) 18 cm full size was about 60 cm.
Great to see the video
WOW mate they're monsters. Great work.
I have a caravan in Mulwala and I go fishing and I cought a 50 Murray cod and a massive cray
Great video Robbie 👍👍👍
Thanks Marty. Sure was a fun afternoon.
that clay bank would make a great puzzle. it seems that the net that you are using is easy for the crayfish to just walk through and gone. could you use the green ones with the bait pockets in them be used for the crayfish as well as the yabby? good trip today sorry you are cold have a great day smiles
Thanks so much Phoebe. Unfortunately the yabby nets are too small for big crayfish.
Nice crawfish Robbie! Need some Louisiana brand crawfish seasoning for those babies! Ha Ha!
Haha thanks. Hard to imagine any seasoning making them taste even nicer than they already did!
Cray Zed hair mate, Americans have Cray Zee hair ;)
How were the crays on the table mate? Bet they tasted/will taste great. I am not a fan of sea food, but I have fond memories of Crays. As they are protected in the ACT, it is many years since I have had one in the pot.
Andrew Fishman your a beast
Thanks Andrew. They were absolutely beautiful. I don't keep a lot myself, but do like to keep the odd feed just to remind myself how nice they are. As beautiful as crayfish are, I honestly think I prefer a feed of yabbies!
G'day Andrew, me old sparring partner, me old China Plate. How's thing's mate? Hope you had a great long weekend. Cheers.
@@victorbitter583 I am great thanks cobber. How's tricks in your neck of the woods? Had a great long weekend. Bloody cold but got some nice fish. Hope yours was great also.
And just to clear things up, I was wrong 😉
@@AndrewFishman LOL. Don't be silly mate. Just a little misunderstanding, that's all.
Yes I had a great weekend, thanks for asking. I did a pulled pork on the smoker on Saturday, the yard yesterday and some Buffalo wings on the Weber tonight. All with a few Coopers Pale Ale or 10..of course. Cheers mate.
awesome video.... some nice crays....do u change ur bait after awhile or just rock on with wat you put in at start...
Thanks John. I find that I'm more likely to change locations before I change the bait. Maybe after a very long time I might change it.
ushanka is top choice of head wear brother.
Thanks mate. This hat has appeared in previous videos. LOL I thi k I bought it at an opp shop years ago. LOL
Sweet!
Great Video Robbie. Have you ever had any luck with crays on the Nine Mile or Broken Creek?
Thanks Alan. I have never tried there sorry. What about yourself?
GREAT VIDEO MATE. What is your favorite creek fishing spinnerbait for yellybelly. Tight Lines mate
Thanks buddy. Hard to go past the Bassman yellaman mate.
Hi Elyon.
@@robbiefishing thanks mate, I will check them out. Tight Lines
@@AndrewFishman hi
Nice crays Robbie! TRY them tossed in some butter & garlic! YUMMM! ;oP
Thanks UF. Someone else has actually suggested that to me too.
@@robbiefishing GREAT minds & all that...
Is the leagal size still 100mm +?
Good video robbie
Thanks buddy.
Gday robbie, I was camping on the Murray on the weekend and caught 2 monster crays on my fishing rod (hooks removed and released)
Haha that's so awesome.
Great Video Again Robbie. Your fishing Channel show how lucky we are in country VIC, Murray Cod, Yellas, Reddies, Trout, Carp (not so lucky ha), yabbies and Crays. Something for all seasons. Have you ever tried Pumpkin as Cray bait? I have heard it works well? Cheers Trevor
Thanks Trevor, you're not wrong mate, we really do live in an amazing part pf the world that is for sure.
What bait you using Robbie?
Just got back from the Murray... got 5 huge Murray crays!!!!!!!,
Hey buddy that sounds awesome.
yum yum
Are you sure you're not Heath Franklin doin chopper?
Nice video mate 😂
Love the hat Robbie legend 🤘00:02
hahaha Thanks mate. I look Russian. LOL
LOL
Isn't it awesome. I wish I had had one today. There was ice in the rain while I was at the lake :( But couple of nice carp sure made the weather a lot easier to tolerate.
love the longer format videos it allows time for you to share some interesting information that you would not normally be able to. I have a question what date is the close of cray season? specifically around the Swan Hill stretch of the Murray?
Thanks mate. I'm not sure on craying in that area as that is ran by NSW fisheries and sections of the Murray are now closed. In Victoria the season closes at midnight on 31st August.
@@robbiefishing appreciate the reply, looks like a phone call to a LFS down that way, as you have recommended in past videos lol
Hey Robbie, ripper video mate. Just out of curiosity, do you prefer to catch yabbies or crays? Or do you like catching them both equally?
Thanks so much mate.. To be honest, I think I prefer yabbying. I love both equally, however I feel less guilty keeping a feed of yabbies as they are much more abundant than crayfish.
I think the thing that I am the most thankful for is the fact that they bite at opposite times of the year.
@@robbiefishing That's awesome mate. I'm a yabby guy myself. I even started using lambs fry as bait last summer thanks to you. Works a treat. Anyways, hope you enjoyed those crays. Keep up the good work.
Just a thought buddy you should take your kayak out and put your pots out like that I have don’t that before
Hey Robbie do you mix sugar and vinegar together and add it to your water while your crayfish are cooking if not do so it sweetens the meat
Hi John, no mate I usually cook them in salt and vinegar.
Hey Robbie I cook them in salted water then just before they are cooked put vinaigrette and sugar together and add it to the water then finish them off the sugar just sweetens the meat
Thanks John. Sounds great mate. 👍 I must try this some day.
The lucky cray hat
Hahaha Nich it sure is mate!
Most crays/yabbies are more active at night.
Great video mate.
Thanks heaps John.
so you took 2 females?
Nice
Thanks Jobie.
Nice one Robbie, is the bag limit of 2 'per day' or 'per week' or what?
Hey mate pretty sure it is 2 per day, but nest to check the rules before heading out.
Another great vid mate
Thanks heaps Zane.
Is there any place I can buy them live and have them shipped to me?
I have asked u question's on here u want me to pay for a answers ☺️
I like the long vid mate
Thanks heaps champ.
Thanks another great one buddy been catching yabbies and crays around yak when younger but always black claws whats with the white one cheers from grumpy
Thank you so much Grumpy. 👍👍
I've never seen a crayfish with black claws. I've seen heaps of yabbies with black claws. These Murray crays always have white claws, although with the really small ones the claws can be similar colour to their body. Not white, but more of a light brown.
I have seen other species of crayfish up that way though. There's a few lesser known species in that area, perhaps the ones with the black claws were one of them?
Catch and cook please!
Maybe one day.
Robbie I love you
Haha Thank you so much mate.
May i knw what species is this?? They are huge
Hi mate it is a Murray crayfish.
Were did you get thAt beanie
To be honest I can't remember. LOL I think I may have bought it at an opp shop years ago.
Stella feed there mate!
Thanks mate, and they were magnificent.
Love ya face big fella.
Thanks so much mate.
I have the same Tape measure
Haha thats awesome. Petty it doesn't measure anything under 130. LOL
Haha yeah
Nice 🙏🙏🗡️👌💯🗡️🗡️🗡️
Enjoy your feed. Handle some of them badly you wouldn't loose a finger you'd loose a limb. LOL.
Hahaha I reckon you could be right Vincent. Hugely powerful things they are. They tasted absolutely beautiful with a couple of cans of medicine for my chest!
I leave mine in until i've finished my first beer then pull em up. Usually 20-30 minutes.
Hahaha the crayfish equivalent of an egg timer. LOL
Go the dogs!! Just sayen
Hair is fine robbie
Hahaha Thanks Tim.
5:49 athsma is the worst I can bearly play footy sometimes
I'm sorry to hear that buddy. I had to stop playing footy as a kid for the same reason. I missed heaps of school camps, camping trips with my family etc... all because of my asthma.
Thankfully these days it is much more under control than it was when I was a kid.
Take care of yourself buddy.
Thx Robbie 🤘
Hey robbie you got a short memory ,,I told you a long time ago 2x beers 1st pull then 1x beer after hahahaha
hahahaha sounds more than fair mate. LOL
Unless its a hot day, then its 3x first and 2x second hahahaha
This is the same spot with holly isn’t it??
Yep sure is mate.
A tape measure that doesn't start till 130mm you ozzies are backwards af
Hahahaha I think it was made in China so we will blame them. LOL
Seriously though....everything is so bloody big over here. Our fish, our snakes, our drinking problems.....
@@robbiefishing Haha. Was just poking fun Robbie ;) Love the videos and the passion. I spent over two years backpacking in OZ fished from darwin all the way around to exmouth so I know all about not only the fish but the drinking too. More to the point who buys a tape measure that starts at 130 hahaha
