  • Against all odds... We are crossing to the Bahamas! We pull the anchor up at 4 AM and leave Florida for the Bahamas. The Crossing took about 11 hours and was mostly smooth!

    Hi! At 3:16 I’m 95% sure I’m one of the buddy boats behind you. We left from West Palm in early March, 2023, at 4 AM, we were two boats, and the size difference in our two boats looks like your video. It was our first offshore passage, for both of us. Just as we were turning into the outlet we saw a catamaran in front of us, and said “He looks like he knows what he’s doing, we’ll follow him!” (If YOU only knew how nervous we were)! Thanks for keeping us off the rocks. 😊. Just found your channel, and we’re enjoying it.

      lol. Hi guys, I’m not sure of the exact date but I bet you’re right. We could hear you on the VHF talking to each other. I remember hearing you say something like, where did that catamaran go? We cleared the markers and took off before the weather could change. Funny, we had no idea either! The channel is quiet right now, I have tons of footage, I hope to get uploaded someday. Cheers!

    Loved the excitement over the color of the Bahamas water. Can you believe that it’s going to get even more gorgeous as you go further South? The moment when you show the water color through your glasses and a dolphin suddenly appears was special. Very cool video guys. At long last - welcome to the Bahamas!

    West end is a good place to check in. You could have anchored out and come ashore. Way to go guys !!

    • @SaltyEscape
      @SaltyEscape  Год назад

      We phoned customs and asked if we could anchor out and they said no, we had to bring the boat in. Maybe that was an “ask for forgiveness” situation…??

      @@SaltyEscape maybe, look out for a boat called Sailing Another Summer. They are a Kid boat and they are around the same area as you in the berries

    Two things interested me: the Q flag! In ham, means to pass a message, kinda the same! Did not know that you could need more than one permit: fishing AND cruising! We will be making our first crossing in March 24!

    Nice crossing, you picked a good weather window and the very early AM departure is not something every cruiser can handle, but it allows arrival in full daylight. Nice that the Covid restrictions have ended- those were a pain.
    Great that both of you can steer and maneuver the cat and the kids should be able to do some in case of an emergency. Have fun in the Berries, but watch out for cruise ships at northern end at the cays they own.

      Hi! Yes, we motored. We have 2 39hp Yanmar diesel engines. There was no wind so no sailing. 😢

    • @SaltyEscape

      Completely agree! It’s obscured. We have been discussing options however it’s going to need to wait until we can get to a place to have a custom mount made.
