bro, i have been doing it for 20+ years. Schedule is the greatest, kids, and parents and schools love us. And as long as we drive and do our job right, there is never a problem.

@@daisycampos1189ever rode a school bus? Even on a city bus someone will always give you a problem. Just the way life is. If you’re thinking about becoming a bus driver, go for it! Gotta realize problems come with every day living.

Im considering this primarily for the quality of life. I'm hauling hazmat locally, off on the weekends. But I really only get home enough for a shower and to chill about 2 or 3 hrs before having to sleep and do it all over again. Crazy way to live
Me too but we’d have to subsidize the money. We’d be taking a huge pay cut
Yeah me too, I'd initially be making half for the first 2 years but after that I'll be making $12 more an hour after 3.5 years
Debating on going this route. Local ISD (Plano, TX) starting at $24/hr. I have Class A with X endorsement and TWIC, and can make lots more money, but I'm looking to be off on weekends a day the school district has good benefits.
I'm used to working 12-14 hours days, so I would need to add field trips and sporting events to the days schedule

The gps you showed is crazy because us down in New York we gotta remember our stops and route by heart but our routes be mixed with elementary, middle and highschool students

First of all your energy had me so excited 😆 second of all, this was just the reassurance I needed to get going 🙏🏾 i was in construction and had an injury and so I can’t return to that line of work sadly…so I had to make a drastic career change. I finally decided a few months ago to become a school bus driver, but then I had to go for a spinal surgery and now just recovered from that so I went to get my permit with endorsements and upgraded my drivers license and applied to a couple of companies. I’m so glad I found your video lol you gave me energy and got me excited to start this new career path 🙏🏾keep up the hustle and grind brother

I have been great. I enjoy my new career. I work in my daughter's school district, and having a 4 hour break is pretty cool too. And I can make extra money working extra hours doing field trips or being a bus aid getting paid the same rate as I do being a bus driver.
Any advice dealing with students ? I’m a new driver and starting next week.

A lot of schools will train you to get your class B. A lot of schools have you sign a 1 year contract that you will work there for 1 year. I am thinking of going this route.
The company hiring by me will only pay for your CDL if you sign a contract for a year minimum.
Your stop sign didn't come out because you just hit the lamp check button. For the stop sign to open you need do activate the warning switch and open the door. Jesus man, that is bus driving 101.
Start my training tomorrow, kind of nervous. Pay here is $40/hr but I live in San Francisco so that’s why.

I became a School Bus Driver back in September of 2022
How was it? Where did you begin?
I’ve got my CDL A tanker hazmat and everything. I’ve done otr and regional . The pay was really good making min 1,400 a week top was 2,100 a week. Downside I was home 11/2 days a week. My son was not feeling it.
I tried local dry van and cement the pay dropped to 1,000 a week but the catch is you’re working 12+hrs a day. I was exhausted afterwards.
I’m looking into school bus driving but I want a clear answer of the pay and hours.
I combine School bus with Uber driving on the side. I was thinking of getting the class A but I want the freedom and lifestyle..

True story, I have a son and I had to figure out how to work around my son schedule with daycare and what not. I came across first student on indeed in my city, I was like nahh I’m okay I have to have a cdl before I even apply but No, they actually offer free classes for the tests to prepare for the dmv. They even allowed me to take my son to class with me and I agree with you! They started me at 24$ an hour and part time hours , but you right! The catch is taking on more routes! I work as a tech for Dodge. 22 an hour it ain't nothing to be at work for 7 to 8 hours and flag/commission 20 hours a day if you do it right.
And how much do you spend on tools? Like reeking of motor oil every day? How's your knees, back, and shoulders treating you? Mechanic isn't a great job.

Not we both do alternative school lol, I pick up 7:30am -9:00am & pick up 2:25pm: -3:45pm then get my middle at 4:00pm-5:00pm

I was gone get the S Endorsement cuz I started out with the City Bus and got the P Endorsement. Man they telling me I gotta so the entire test over, and I done had my CDL for 4 years now

Some guarentee 4hrs pay even if your route is shorter than 4hrs. Can have longer shifts, not sure about those. Also can drive for sports fir extra time but they usually pay a bit less per hr.

Driving a school bus you would probably make less. But it depends on where your at. I know some people in Virginia come home with 2k checks. But you have experience so you wouldn’t get the starting pay. You’d have to do the whole pre trip and road test and skills test for your school bus endorsement

I have a class a and make more hourly driving a school bus. I get 40 hrs min a week which is kinda rare though.

@@shortthrow50 I have 8 years of class A driving experience. I make $31/hr driving the bus, my former class a trucking job now pays $28/hr. I might be able to find a class a job for around $30/hr but I’d be working 10 hour days, and I’d have a longer commute.

They teach you how to pre trip and drive the bus… You will never have to sit in a class or school. Just go to any school bus and they will train you

Yes you have to remember the routes. In detail...all of them. Relying in GPS is stupid. You have to know every route and all the students. You know where they get picked up in the morning and where they get dropped in the afternoon. This will not necessarily be the same. In my area, am & pm routes are not the same. Different kids, different routes.
