I have Class A with X endorsement and TWIC, and can make lots more money, but I'm looking to be off on weekends a day the school district has good benefits. First of all your energy had me so excited 😆 second of all, this was just the reassurance I needed to get going 🙏🏾 i was in construction and had an injury and so I can’t return to that line of work sadly…so I had to make a drastic career change. I finally decided a few months ago to become a school bus driver, but then I had to go for a spinal surgery and now just recovered from that so I went to get my permit with endorsements and upgraded my drivers license and applied to a couple of companies. I have been great. I enjoy my new career. I work in my daughter's school district, and having a 4 hour break is pretty cool too. And I can make extra money working extra hours doing field trips or being a bus aid getting paid the same rate as I do being a bus driver.

I came across first student on indeed in my city, I was like nahh I’m okay I have to have a cdl before I even apply but No, they actually offer free classes for the tests to prepare for the dmv. They even allowed me to take my son to class with me and I agree with you! They started me at 24$ an hour and part time hours , but you right! The catch is taking on more routes! I’ve got my CDL A tanker hazmat and everything. I’ve done otr and regional . The pay was really good making min 1,400 a week top was 2,100 a week. Downside I was home 11/2 days a week. My son was not feeling it. I tried local dry van and cement the pay dropped to 1,000 a week but the catch is you’re working 12+hrs a day. I was exhausted afterwards. I’m looking into school bus driving but I want a clear answer of the pay and hours.

A lot of schools will train you to get your class B. A lot of schools have you sign a 1 year contract that you will work there for 1 year. I am thinking of going this route.

I drove for 13 years a And then switched to motorcoach, i still drive sometimes bc i do miss it. Just wish it paid more for the cost of things these days
Some guarentee 4hrs pay even if your route is shorter than 4hrs. Can have longer shifts, not sure about those. Also can drive for sports fir extra time but they usually pay a bit less per hr.
And how much do you spend on tools? Like reeking of motor oil every day? How's your knees, back, and shoulders treating you? Mechanic isn't a great job.

Driving a school bus you would probably make less. But it depends on where your at. I know some people in Virginia come home with 2k checks. But you have experience so you wouldn’t get the starting pay. You’d have to do the whole pre trip and road test and skills test for your school bus endorsement

Yes you have to remember the routes. In detail...all of them. Relying in GPS is stupid. You have to know every route and all the students. You know where they get picked up in the morning and where they get dropped in the afternoon. This will not necessarily be the same. In my area, am & pm routes are not the same. Different kids, different routes.
