- 1960 Opel Rekord with engine from a 1957 Simca Vedette.
Fitting the V8 engine in the small engine bay was a real challenge. To get it road legal I could not alter anything on the car itself. The engine bay was too short so I had to invent and build an extremely short water pump. The radiator is also specially made for this application with an electric fan as there was no room for an engine driven fan. I also had to make a special engine starter as the rh steering idler link is where where the original starter is located. I made exhaust manifolds from water pipe to avoid the tin-can sound from thin pipe headers and also made a new mechanism to operate the Vedette gearbox with the original Opel gearshift. Have used it for 8 years now without any problems at all but the performance is only marginally better than the original 4 cylinder. Battery had to be moved to the trunk and brakes are modified to power assisted disc brakes.

Sima Vedette was the follower of French Ford Vedette
The engine style is from the 1930ies .
No wonder performance increase is only marginal.
The Sima Aquilon with 2351 ccm had just 85 HP
BUT sound is great - and you can still do some tuning 😊

No, but engine oil pan was modified to make room for front crossmember. Steering is all original but front crossmember is replaced with a shortened one from a 1970 Opel Rekord to get disc brakes.

Lindén: the engine is originally a Ford flathead from the thirties, they ended up in France because Ford had some ventures there and because old man Ford had a thing or two against six cylinder engines. Yours is most likely a 2.5 liter version.

I love it , a GM built car in Germany with a FLAT HEAD FORD engine in it , with 48 Ford heads or it might be the Ford 60 engine .........lol lol lol

Das Radio passt da nicht rein, seiner Zeit waren da nur Röhrenradios verbaut mit mächtigen Zerhacker. Machte aber nichts, denn unter dem Armaturenbrett war Platz ohne Ende.
When I bought the car in 1978 it was 18 years old and I modified it for daily use.
It has extra soundproofing, thicker floor mats, modified 12 volt electrical system, disc brakes, V8 engine, heavy duty rear springs and many more improvements including a compact disc player with 4 built in speakers.
That is how we modified older cars then so they would be equal to newer cars in use.
I have the 6V radio from 1960 that came with the car. Shall I put it back? Shall I convert the car back to 6V and drum brakes? Shall I reinstall the 4 cylinder engine?

@@thomaslinden.2507 Alle gemachten Umbauten machen auch Sinn. Doch das originale Radio hätte ich eben aus Gründen der Optik drin gelassen und die moderne Anlage unauffällig im Handschuhfach eingebaut.
@@andreashauffe1787 The radio is not modern, it is from 1979 and not good with todays standards but it is part of the cars history. Everything on the car has a purpose, to make it a good car for commuting 180 km a day 5 days a week. It is not a restored car, it is modified to use daily 20 years after it was new.
1700cc V8? The speedo reads 140kph. (87.5 mph).
The engine is 2300cc from a Simca Vedette 1957.
