The Bluetooth being added to BMS units is great. I never trust scavenged battery builds without being able to see the individual cell voltages to make sure the bms is working.
Exactly. My batteries are from medical equipment which sat on the shelf unused for a year but they're re-wrapped so I can't get mfgr specs. I consider active monitoring critical for the life of the ride and safety to boot.
I have a 16 cell battery pack. I am installing a 16s overkill bms. However after connecting the balance leads i find an extra lead #15 white. so i have a black negative bc0 a red positive 16 and no place for 15.. What do i do to get around this. The bms is shutting down dud to under voltage i cel 15
You are missing a wire somewhere for sure. Does your first cell have 2 balance wires on it? For exp... you have the black on neg(bc0). Do you also have the first white balance wire on that same cell positive? I could also look at there instructions and see if they have something odd
I looked at the wire diagram and it looks normal. You should have 17 balance wires connected. Each battery will have a balance wire on the positive terminal. Cell 1 will have a black neg (bc0) and a white pos (bc1). Cell 16 will have the red (bc16).
Thanks for your comments. I rechecked and what i found is a 15 cell pack not 16 as i thought. So its 15 cells at 3.2v =48. So that accounts for the extra balance wire. The BMS is 16s. What do I do? Also is there a tutorial on the xaioxiang BMS app?
If I remember right you cant "trick" those bms's by using 2 balance wires on one cell. Some can but some cannot. Can you get 1 more cell to add in and make a 16s or is it a prebuilt? Only other solution is to get another bms

I wonder if it is possible to connect this type of circuit to supercaps instead of cells. I would like to have a 12v buffer cap between my battery and an inverter but I don't trust those caps they put into car audio setups. Just wiring supercaps in series seems a bit loose with safety as they tend to have value differences in 10s of percents.
A good question. I believe the short answer is yes you can use this type of balancing bms for capacitors, provided you can adjust the voltages to satisfy the caps limits, however, a Maxwell type supercap will generally have a balancer of sorts between each cap and ur caps total voltage should be at least a bit higher than ur battery voltage in a solar setup & there is probly no real benefit unless you want to run ur caps at a bit higher voltage than ur batteries for some extra surge protection for ur batteries for when. A heavy load starts up. You still need batteries in the system of course as the caps only really help with battery surge and inverter ripple and can provide for the short bursts or surges of power needs and are great for starting motors, Aircon’s, microwaves & coffee machines , etc, when ur on Solar & inverter power as u probly know. I have thought about using a bms for caps myself, but I dont think it is really necessary as if u have a 16v-17v capacitor setup on a 12v system it should be fine with the normal balancers that are made for the caps because the batteries should keep the voltage down under 12v-15v. Cheers
I personally like using HRC fuses! They can extinguish a dc arc in the event there is a short ect... I would not recommend one of those cheap black resetable breakers!💥🤘

I want to say thank you so much for displaying the "Function setting" in the app and saying "this is how you want to set this page." I wonder when DALY is going to change their app so the balance feature will actually work, lol. Even Overkill Solar says to enable "balance when charging" for best results, LOL.
Yeah I cant say Ive seen much on all the settings ect... Id say for the inital charge, the charge while balance is fine but once "charged" Id turn that guy off!🤣💥🤘
@@AveRage_Joe imo, "charge while balance" makes no sense because the cells only drift apart when one cell reaches about 97 percent charge and above. Then the cell protection kicks off charging and what do we have... ZERO BALANCING! if the cells are in balance then the cell protection won't trip and who cares about balancing because the cells are perfect. Off-grid garage explained it very nicely that "balance while charging" is shit.
When using multiple wires to carry a large load make sure each wire by it self can handle 60% of the load. This protects the wires incase one has a touch more resistance than the other pushing a larger percentage of the load to the other wire.
Thanks Man! Another Rhino vid will be coming soon! It has been doing great!!! If we have sun I can keep the house off grid 24/7! Minus those 240v items that need to be connected when I get time🤠⚡️⚡️🤘
Hello dear friend ,very nice video ,I have bought four batteries 3.2v 300A intended for 12 v connection ,I bought a BMS for 300A,is this nessesarry? To choose a BMS according to the power of the battery? Or I should choose a BMS according to the power of my solar panels?
Hello there. Yes you want a bms capable of handling the batteries or higher then the intended load. This protects the battery. The charge controller will take care of charging voltage of solar. Both are needed.
Great video as always ( still miss the karate chops! ) just wondered what the range is on that bms. On my new battery build I want to have a tablet display of the bms in the room next door so just wondered what the 'line of sight' and 'through walls' range is on that unit. Keep up the good work and look forward to your next update!
Ooooooo the Ole Karate Chop! Havent done one of those in FOREVER LOL!!! Range isnt to bad at all actually. I can be upstairs or one floor up and a room over and still get a signal. Id say at least 30ft going through the floor!
I touched the battery output wires, positive and negative very quickly and the jbd bms went into protection saying "locked MOS" and I can't get it to work anymore. Any suggestion to help me?
Lets say your battery hits high cell cut off at 3.65v and the bms cuts charging. The voltage of that cell has to drop to the release voltage you have set in order for the bms to re-enable charging. Same for all the other setings! Hope that helps!💥🤘
Perhaps someone can help with a question I have. There are balance wires for each cell but where does the BMS get it’s power from? If it is drawing current through one of the balance wires (the red one?) won’t that skew the voltage reading for the last cell?
Properly designed BMS’ use the voltage from the whole battery not just one cell. But yes there are bad designs. If it is pulling power from just one cell the BMS will be constantly trying to balance the other cells down to that one. If it does this to much it can pull the whole pack below safe levels. So if you are unsure if this is happening you need to test the battery voltage daily for a couple weeks to make sure it is not dropping to fast.
@@ecospider5 I’m sure the BMS will be taking power from the whole pack. The negative supply will be from main negative terminal but as far as I can see, the positive will be coming from the red wire which also serves as the voltage sense wire for the last cell. The current draw to operate the BMS will cause a voltage drop in the sense wire which can’t be good.
My thought is the balancing of cells happens over many hours. I have had a balance cycle take over 24 hours. If this is true for most bms systems then enough of the balancing happens when the battery is not in use for that voltage drop to not be an issue.
Hands are clean and looks like you play the six string ... Nice video and I am going to (hope to) build my own pack soon.. for the first time. 400 plus Ah

If the SOC% drops randomly....hmmm I cant say Ive seen that unless powering things. Voltage will show slightly different then what your volt meter will show due to tolerances of testing device. I can test with 3 different volt meters and all show a diff voltage. It almost sounds like the bms needs to be reset back to factory. Once done, set the capacity of the pack and try a capacity test.
