    I was a Kapil Gupta follower after reading his book 'Direct Truth'.
    I started to believe recently that he holds extreme opinions about how humans function. Some key points and my analysis
    1. Abdicates from taking responsibility for what he says by repeatedly saying 'This is for a narrow set of people' knowing fully well that all kinds of people consume his content on the internet. He defines this segment as someone who already know they are different and that they are kind of born with it, which is rather vague
    2. He says, 'Humans think they failed because of not putting enough work without realising that the desire is not strong enough'. I think this is our natural behavior to cope up with failure. Haven't we seen success stories of an increase in effort(smart and volume of effort) and persistence leading to success ? Also, assuming that people lack the self awareness about their weaknesses and that they would persist is another fallacy. We doubt our strengths and magnify our weaknesses as per data
    3. Why should one believe what he says ? What is the data set of these observations , analysis and recommendations ? How is the discourse different from dogma or religion ?
    4. His definition of truth is that after knowing it, we would be in a blissful state and even Naval agrees to it. Why can't the truth keep on evolving and be personal ?
    My belief is that living the right life must be left to the individual. The individual keeps moving between opposites mentioned by Aristotle in his golden mean principle related to morality. I think it can be applied to living in general. Every person strives to get this balance. Some extremes that we need to balance are
    1. Fear of failure and guilt of not trying
    2. Knowledge about one self and knowledge from the world
    3. Sticking to beliefs and questioning everything
    4. Seeking and being
    5. Reflecting on what you already know and learning something new.
    I started to believe all self help, productivity, success related content is romantic and that our minds love that stuff. People who have ambition are the segments that are impacted from this content and keep on engaging in such content.
    This whole interaction is triple blinded. First is the content consumer whose unique circumstance and baggage is never considered by the speaker. The speaker doesn't really know how the content of what he spoke impacts the consumer. Second, The speaker speaks out of personal experience. Let's be honest, we are not good at evaluating oneself because of our inherent cognitive biases. Even people who train consciously to avoid these biases don't succeed 100%. Third, the observations the speaker might have regarding other people is also extremely faulty. Courtesy, biases again. What we have is a personality development influencer that is biased who draws conclusions by looking at patterns in other people to come up with theories and teach them to people whom he doesn't know at all.
    My method: Filter the noise within, filter the noise from others, do what you want and see a therapist or talk to a friend if things aren't going well. Comsume content but also question.

    34:30 Oh my God. It happens to me almost every single time. Whenever I acquire knowledge that is in fact wisdom, even though my intentions are good in wanting to share it with people I love, I also immediately find myself rehearsing little speeches in my head where I've already absorbed that newfound knowledge as part of my everyday narrative and views on life. Eventhough I almost never get do, I find myself wanting to be "the professor".
    Ego is such a weird thing.

      The biggest imprisonment with success, and art, creation, and whatever it may be, is ownership. Whenever there’s ownership there’s building of your self image. You’re building a self image at the same time you’re building the company. And that self image is gonna pop sooner or later.
      The ultimate way in which to create something is to do it under the umbrella of self forgetfulness. Because then you’re really free. You can wield the sword so freely when you yourself are wearing armor. When you yourself are exposed, then you’re gonna wield the sword very carefully. And while some will say nothing is wrong with that, the problem is that while you’re wielding it carefully you will not be able to wield it with the aplomb and carefreeness that will allow you to achieve higher art
      When you have an armor on and, no matter what you do you're not gonna get hurt by it, then you can do whatever you want and within that relative carefree and cavalier sort of approach magic happens.

    • @sidehustle8396
      @sidehustle8396 Год назад

      For me that doesn’t exist. And quite frankly, hesitation destroys the joy. To be proper and correct and make sure that no ones dislikes it, there’s no fun in that. The joy is actually in the self expression. I think the attachment to the ownership of something and to say “it’s mine”… you are running with a parachute.

      @steamerSama 2 года назад

      I think would Kapil argue that you dont need to "FIND" happiness, but you only need to seek the truth, which dumbed down, I guess for me, would mean that you need to introspect yourself without trying to find peace and peace would eventually follow. I don't know man, feels like I'm making sense of something which I don't understand well

    • @G175Y
      @G175Y 2 года назад +2

      @@steamerSama No it makes complete sense. What you just described is Zen Buddhism lol.
      To be fair, It's been a year and I don't quiet remember what I commented on when writing my comment lol. But I think what I was getting at is that meditation is a way to clear thoughts. And Nirvana in buddhism is a state of emptiness. They believe that to reach enlightenment one must first unlearn, not learn. The more you unlearn the more you go back to your base self. The closer you are with your base self and the present time, the closer you are to living free, because your mind is not preoccupied with the past or worries of the future. Just living from present moment to present moment. - And I think I wrote what I said because meditation is seen as this grand thing that's suppose to help people be better, when really it's intended as a tool to help clear the mind. So it 's just 1 step in a multi-step process.
      But yeah, strictly going off your comment, you almost perfectly described Zen buddhism, so if that is interesting to you, I suggest looking it up. Or look up lectures by Alan Watts. He was one of the (more recent) first westerners to bring eastern philosophy to the west. Unlike other forms of buddhism, Zen buddism doesn't talk about gods or existence or anything like that. It just focuses on the self and enlightenment.

    The idea that someone should get rid of anxiety is the problem. The problem is not. "How do I get rid of anxiety?" The way is actually to learn where anxiety comes from. The people who have conquered anxiety are the ones who had a clear understanding of what it is and where it came from. 这就是心理学的情景治疗法,要想彻底治疗内心的恐惧,就要去直面内心的恐惧。就像宋乔安重新坐在儿子被枪杀的电影院,重新去回到那个让她伤痛的地方,才会真正鼓起勇气去面对她的愧疚。这个例子告诉我们,解铃还须系铃人,问题和答案不是分开的两个东西,而是同一个东西。那么我们该如何解决焦虑呢?Kapil Gupta告诉我们,解决问题的方法就是回到问题本身,注意这已经是prescriptions了,需要经过你自己的思维坐标的转换,把焦虑这个问题给拆开,看看它由哪些组成部分,比如我的焦虑是来源于工作上的压力、情感上的孤独、年龄上的恐惧、身体上的不适、睡眠的不足、学习没有效果等等。然后,问自己,我这种焦虑常常在什么时候会产生?白天多还是晚上多?工作多还是生活多?然后你意识到,你的这个焦虑不可能说只解决一项,焦虑就会消失。你发现,你只有系统性地处理每一个细节,才去真正解决焦虑,否则焦虑还是会不断涌出来,就像没有及时止血,血还在不断地从绷带里渗出来。因为,你理解了,你要解决焦虑,你必须重新考虑和建设一个新的系统,这个系统包括你要改掉一些以前不好的行为习惯,这个是效果最快的方式。比如,熬夜看手机,吃夜宵,无目的刷视频等等。其次,意识到以前缓解焦虑的方法也要慢慢地发生改变,比如减少喝酒的频次,减少无效的社交,取而代之换更加积极的方式,让自己主动痛苦起来,比如运动、学习、背诵、冥想等等。最后一个,也是最妙的地方,就是不断思考焦虑本身,去不断重新认识你的焦虑,哪怕未来你已经很开心了,不那么焦虑了,你依然不断去认识自己的焦虑,你能否真正解决焦虑,取决于你能否真正理解焦虑,理解得越深刻,解决得越彻底,不断理解,不断解决。

      This is the situational therapy in psychology. If you want to completely cure your inner fear, you have to face it. Just like Song Qiaoan sat in the movie theater where her son was shot and killed, and returned to the place that hurt her, she would really muster up the courage to face her guilt. This example tells us that the person who tied the bell must be the one who untied it. The problem and the answer are not two separate things, but the same thing. So how do we solve anxiety? Kapil Gupta tells us that the way to solve the problem is to go back to the problem itself. Note that this is already a prescription. You need to transform your own thinking coordinates and disassemble the problem of anxiety to see what components it consists of. For example, my anxiety comes from work pressure, emotional loneliness, fear of age, physical discomfort, lack of sleep, ineffective learning, etc. Then, ask yourself, when do I often have this kind of anxiety? More during the day or at night? More work or more life? Then you realize that it is impossible for your anxiety to disappear by solving only one item. You find that you can only really solve anxiety by systematically dealing with every detail, otherwise anxiety will continue to surge, just like blood is still seeping out of the bandage if the bleeding is not stopped in time. Because you understand that if you want to solve anxiety, you must reconsider and build a new system. This system includes changing some of your previous bad behavior habits. This is the fastest way to achieve the fastest effect. For example, staying up late to watch your phone, eating supper, aimlessly watching videos, etc. Secondly, realize that the previous methods of relieving anxiety must also be slowly changed, such as reducing the frequency of drinking and ineffective socializing, and replacing them with more positive ways to make yourself suffer actively, such as exercise, learning, reciting, meditation, etc. The last and most wonderful thing is to keep thinking about anxiety itself and constantly re-understand your anxiety. Even if you are very happy and less anxious in the future, you still keep understanding your anxiety. Whether you can really solve anxiety depends on whether you can truly understand anxiety. The deeper the understanding, the more thorough the solution. Keep understanding and keep solving.
