Thank you for the priceless lesson. I did it, it took me for about 7 months to learn from start to finish. It was definitely worth it. Because of this lesson I'm a better guitar player. As Im typing this comment I feel the pain in my newly forming calluses. How happy I am that you decided to make this lesson. Thank you for being a great teacher and Thank You Lord for giving me strength to finish what I started.

I have been learning this, probably at a snail's pace but I have been learning and mastering a little bit at a time over the last year I am about 3/4 through it and not going forward until I master a few parts at a time. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your teaching ability. I am a pastor and sometimes we do not get the recognition that we deserve. This is the best lesson on Hotel CA that I've seen and it helped put me on the track to finally learning the entire thing. Great Job. My only comment is that you mention it is doable for an "intermediate player." Joe Walsh in an interview once said the solo is "easy to play crappy, but hard to play right." An intermediate player can certainly learn it, but to do it well, you need to have mastered a wide array of techniques, precise bends, stretches and a few awkward to play licks. And if you want to do the harmony with another player, you've just upped the difficulty to another level. This solo is deceptively difficult play well.

Thanks, Bud !!! You NAILED it. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and have admired this solo since it was released in 1976. IMHO -- This has to be one of the top five of all time best guitar solos in classic rock. Maybe number one for a melodic guitar solo that is actually highly constructed and not primarily improvised vis a vis Cream Crossroads live at Winterland or Mick Taylor at the end of Sympathy for the Devil live on Ya Yas. This is because the riffs are extremely tasteful and use a number of unique phrasings. Even Eddie RIP would have had a tough time playing this to sound like the studio record.

A combination of having such low action (it often seemed like your fingers weren't moving) and the bottom upside down angle being a fraction ahead in timing made it difficult at times from around 20:00 onwards. I'm glad you happened to be the person/video that was around when I finally got around to learning this solo in its entirety last weekend.Fortunately I'm at intermediate level now (so I could follow), but I'm still using an acoustic(Washburn , model WA90CE VSB) that happens to work in terms of bending (gives me more practice for that), although I'm at that point where I want to save up to get an electric. You're a good teacher and I actually took it for granted how many accomplished guitarists actually know this solo (judging from your comments at the end and also personal experience on my part at a recent open mic where the host didn't know how to play the solo. I somehow expected he would know with him owning a guitar store, and this being an iconic song. But some other guy adjusted and did something along the lines of the main chords when I was playing onstage at the open mic.I'm an idiot for not learning the solo myself ), so I don't feel as bad finally learning the song (which I started doing last month after seven years playing). Thank you.

Thank you so much for this post. This is the best video I've found in RUclips on how to play the HC outro, explaining each step and note in detail. It's really easy to follow your instructions. My dream of finally being able to play this will come true..hopefully soon.

I thought you might be interested in the live lesson (via zoom) I will be doing this Sunday on the Hotel California solo. In the lesson we will cover the solo note for note and also study ways you can approach improvising over the chord changes. Topics discussed will be chord theory behind the chord changes, scales used, and chord tone targeting.
If you are interested you can sign up for the class at csgalive.com

      Never give up.
Just keep playing small sections over and over, like doing reps, and it will get easier..
I felt the same way, but I just kept doing it, and now it's sounding better and feeling easier.
Plus you learn new things just by learning this solo.

Great job. I've been working on Still got the blues by Gary Moore. It's not bad. That Bm7b5 was the most aggravating chord to get down. The bends in it are amazing. Better hit those bends are that sick cat outside the window is going to be crying.
Love to see you do Still got the Blues too. I printed off the music the other day to work on each part meticulous. I like the way you explain as you go through a cover. Again great work.
